    Re: RPI Ranking

    From Terry's blog:

    http://blogs.argusleadermedia.com/sports/category/sdsu/

Sporting sweatpants and raging bedhead, I’ve spent the last hour breaking down the 2006 Division I women’s basketball postseason … on my day off. I know, I know.

Nonetheless, the results of my (sad) research:

Of the teams ranked in the top 75 of the NCAA pre-tournament RPI last season, only one that met the criteria required for postseason play was not selected for either the Big Dance or the WNIT: No. 63 Texas Tech (15-14). And of the top 100, only two that finished with 20-plus Division I victories were snubbed: No. 94 Kent State (21-9) and No. 98 Montana (21-7). Those teams each beat one BCS conference opponent.

With eight games remaining, SDSU has 13 Division I victories, including six over BCS clubs. . . . (read more)

After going to 40th in the Jan 21st weekly RPI, pulling the two road wins provides a move up to 38th, again for the 1/28 update

      According to Sagarin's poll, http://www.rpiratings.com/womrate.htm

Only A-10, ACC, Big12, Big10, Big Sky, Big East, Horizon, MAC, Pac-10, SEC, & SunBelt have at least one team rated higher than Lady Rabbits (#31). That's 20 conferences with NOBODY RATED BETTER!!!!

NDSU ladies are rated as the 2nd best in the Independents at #162 by Sagarin, moving past UVSU (#170) this week.

      Go Ladies!  Corral the Bison!!!!!

Over the next 7 weeks we have 10 games vs our 5 UBC "members".    As we enter this run, we are clearly the RPI leaders in rank and strength of schedule.  IF  : (BIG WORD, for only two letters) we do what we're supposed to do (run the table on these teams) we'd finish 22-5 (D-I only), and could very well be the highest RPI team NOT in the NCAA's.   The WNIT last year was won by a team with a mid-40's RPI.

Current (1/16) Sagarin's Information on the UBC:

         27  INDEPENDENTS =  61.65 62.00  ( 25)   TEAMS= 11
Women's College Basketball 2006-2007  Div I games only    through games of  2007 January 14 Sunday
        HOME ADVANTAGE=  4.03     RATING    W   L  SCHEDL(RANK) VS top 25 | VS top 50 |
         32  South Dakota St.  =  83.97   11   5   77.58(  13)    1   2  |    1   4  |
        154  North Dakota St.  =  69.13    5   7   73.71(  59)    0   1  |    0   2  |
        163  IPFW =  68.47    5   6   70.70( 137)    0   0  |    0   1  |
        164  Utah Valley St.     =  68.33    8   8   68.11( 214)    0   0  |    0   1  |
        273  Texas-Pan Am.    =  59.49    4  11   68.55( 201)    0   1  |    0   3  |
        328  New Jersey Tech  =  47.87    2  12   59.38( 334)    0   0  |    0   0  |

Sagarin's shows us about 32, but above Missouri, WKU, & Ark St., teams we lost against.

There's another RPI, (Mike Greenfield's) that IMHO, is right on target, has Lady Jacks at 41, with all our loses better ranked, and all our wins (except MTSU) lower.

        http://teamrankings.com/ncw/8powerratings.php3

Hopefully, winning out against the UBC will keep us in the 50's or lower.  AND THAT, my fellow JACKS Backers, should get us into the WNIT, and maybe even a 1st round bye?   Here's hoping the Ladies keep excelling on the courts like they have in the classroom!
From the Notes by Mike Greenfield about using the various ratings.....

        Last season, the Team Rankings Power Ratings were actually a lot closer to the actual seeds of teams in the NCAA Tournament than were the RPI. To the best of my knowledge, the NCAA does not use my rankings in their seeding process (though the Women's NIT does);

          Re: RPI Ranking

Started to wonder about all the RPI and POWER Rankings out there.  I did a little digging in light of our recent fall in the RpI, even though we pounded an NDSU team, at their place, by 41 points!!!
I wanted to come up with a good average of all the polls out there, and I know these are not all of them.  So feel free to help me out:

            Don't forget NCAA's weekly rpi http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weekly...07WBBrpi1.html

I've been following the ratings last year & this year, and I don't understand the POWER RATINGS meaning vs RPI indexing. This is most noticable at the GREENFIELD RATINGS.

According to Mike Greenfield, his POWER rating most accurately pegged who's in the NCAA tourney, and their seeding. Further he states that the WNIT uses this POWER rating for selecting their fields. IF so, this bodes well for the LADY JACKS

With 48 teams in the WNIT, the Rabbits should not only make the field but may even get a 1st round bye? At this point, I'd believe that they're part of the best 16 teams NOT in the NCAA's.

              Thanks rabid.

Man....38 last week and 48 this week????????????????????????????????

Maybe I shouldn't get into this....my stress level is already going up!!

With that one the average RPI stands at #42.

I hate to see what happens after the NJIT game. Ouch! The united conference league was probally good thing for the men, but is really going to hurt the women's rpi.
