Its womens basketball. It wouldnt matter where they were sitting. When Iowa came here a couple years ago , we didnt hit 4000. Theres a lot of people that just dont like watching women play BB, no matter how good they are. I would hope when penn st comes here in a few weeks we can do a little better than last night. Can you imagine what tommorrows game will draw? With the NFL? If we hit 1500 id be surprised.

This.. AJ seems to bring in "name" teams every year and it doesn't affect attendance much. You mentioned Iowa ,attendance for that game was actually 2005. Nebraska came in last year and that drew 2000. Where the students sit certainly doesn't matter.

Other than a few games last year, the D2 days had better attendance for men or women. Montana had students???(some high school youngsters) filling about 70% of the ends and provided some good entertainment during free throw and some cheers back and forth between the ends. When you consider that the men have had 2 NCAA appearances and the women have had 5 NCAA appearances, it would seem likely that some interest would have grown in that time. When I was going to games in the D2 days, I came early to sit in the ends to see the action close to the bucket. Also, until last year the premium seating was part of that section. Someone needs to find the key to attracting students to the games to preserve the seating that is available to them. As a side note, there was some cards available on Friday for students to gain BLUE(building loyalty unification & engagement. This was a program to get students to the games using social media as tweets to get free Jackrabbit gear. In reality we see that most of the attendance and revenue for mainstream D1 college basketball is not dependent on students and the students are not a major part. If the students at SDSU do not take their seats now, we will understand why the seats will become limited in the future. If seats are going to be empty, the athletic department should at least collect a season ticket premium.

This could very well have some truth. However it was not many years ago that after the women's game in a double header that I would see 500 or more leave before the men's game tipped off. Then the halftime break would see another exodus. Those men's games might have had official attendance of 100 more than the women, but that was again only a number. I would agree that many people may be pulled to other activities, but that does not explain the student apathy.

I think the women should try and be more creative, like Gabby on her backwards flying lay up.
Do more unconventional( but fairly safe) passes.Say a player gets a fast break away but has a defender right on her but she knows the closest player following is hers and just throws the ball staight up(not too high and keeps running to bring the defender with her from forward momentum) at the FT line or so and the ball hangs for the following player(running at full speed too) to catch in mid air for the easy lay up.

Maybe some touch passes if the situation warrants, maybe vollyball type over a tall post to a low post?Lots of things to try, that's why its called creativity. (Larry Bird...ish)Just a few more highlite reel type plays would greatly enhance the game.Or bounce it hard off the backboard for following player. Some should be practiced, otherwise your team mate isn't ready for it just like the defender isn't.
A Shoni Schimmel might drive a coach nuts sometimes, but she draws in fans. Most womens teams are highly structured and don't allow for much creativity. Our wanting to up the tempo should help create more opportunities to show creativity.
I watched the highlites last yr when we started to run alot. The fast break passes were text book in some of those games, dunking is out, but there are other things that the fan can enjoy.

I remember watching Christian Janis highlite, they were trying to slow her down at half court, she just blew right by them and down the sideline after she switched hands, she was gifted ball handler who could dribble full speed using either hand, not having to slow down at all.Had wicked cross over.

I wouldn't recommend taking risks in a crucial ,close game, but one where you've got a comfortable lead...why not try and make the game a little more fun

I mentioned a few things that might make womens basketball more entertaining, what's your solution then...if you want to seriously join the conversation.
I might have been too specific with mentioning exciting plays, but anyone should be able to get the general idea......making the game more exciting to watch will help attendence.I can't explain any better than that.Didn't mean to mess with your sensibilities.

Crowd was 1512 today, so better than i thought it would be. I still hope we can get the students there when penn st comes to town. They are ranked 13 and lost to number 1 UCONN today by 15. If Frost is rockin, we can pull off a huge upset. Its a wed night.
