    Re: 2012-13 Schedule

The bad part of the schedule for them is we will have NDSU and USD over Christmas break. No students on campus.

The good thing is that the men will not have any USD students on campus for the game.

        Re: 2012-13 Schedule

Love the schedule.... I think the girls will be solid this year. While the team will miss the seniors from last year I'm hoping that with a year under the freshman's belt - they will be ready to contribute more this year. I think we have some good shooters that can fill in for Jill --- but I'm not as confident on the post play. Sunny was pretty good in the paint! We've seen Katie at her best (and she was good!)-- but she needs to stay out of foul trouble and make good decisions with the ball. Couple of question marks... who will be the leader for the team. My early bets are on Eide. If Paluch can play - she is also someone who could lead. Both of these players were nice surprises last year. A couple other notes - heard that Waytashek is getting back to her old self. That would be a big help if she is back to her pre-injury level. Boever also came on strong at the end of the season after coming back from her injuries. If these two can step it up this year it could lead to some wins! Getting excited!! Go Jacks!

Fortunately it appears that the women's games with USD and NDSU got moved in order to avoid "mirror" scheduling with the men's games. The USD games are now Jan 5th and Jan 30 (instead of the 6th and 31st). It is nice to see there is still a little common sense out there.

Yah they are nothing but girlies as Arnold would say.

I am with NoVAjack. Once a female reaches the age 18 to 21 they deserve to formally be referred to as a woman or lady. Don't argue with a journalist. We seem to have plenty journalists and retired ones on this board who have on more than one occasion set me straigth. They are very good wordsmiths and correct with facts.

No, I can't, personally. First, I work with young professional women that are not much older than college athletes, and I would not think of calling them girls. Second, I was on campus and I think others on this board were, too, when women's athletics was trying to get a foothold at SDSU (and other college campuses). There was a fair degree of "girls don't do sports" and weaker-sex pushback and Title IX resentment, and I think after these many decades they've earned the respect of being called young women athletes. Third, the only time I ever lose sleep over any post on this board is when I am still laughing at some image Sturgis conjured up.

I'm going to be honest, I get really offended when someone says "girls" instead of "women" and I assume every single female (can I use this???????) athlete does too.

                      Re: 2012-13 Schedule

The word choice is way, way less important than the context.

Most of the time it is relatively easy to tell whether someone is being condescending or just didn't use the word/term you prefer. For instance: If I am talking with a group of females in their early 20s before they go out for a night on the town and end the conversation with "you girls have fun," there shouldn't be an issue. And if there is, I'm of the belief that you're the one who has the problem if you chose to be offended by something that had no intent of being offensive.

                        Back to the 2012-2013 schedule.....

This is going to be a very challenging non-conference schedule for the Jacks. I counted 13 non-conference games before the Summit League schedule starts. What is a realistic number of wins in those thirteen games?

Can we compromise on using "chics" instead and move on? Alright, I kid, I kid. It's women, period.

I love the schedule that they put together. The great thing about scheduling with the women is that it is easier to get the big name schools to come to Brookings. I remember when they went to USC a few years ago and there were like 150 people in the gym (most Jacks fans btw) and they were ranked at the time. Therefore, it isn't a revenue loss for the school like that to not have a huge amount of home games. That isn't true everywhere but if you compare the men's and women's schedules there sure are a lot more "big names" coming to town on the women's side. I've had that same discussion with coaches from both teams.

BTW- it is also a challenge to get teams to come here when our winning percentage is really high.

Great job on the schedule! Looking forward to the season!

What is the new phrase for, "the boys of summer"? That refers to 35 year old baseball players.
I guess I've been told , "you boys have fun". Next time I'm told that, I'll make her sleep on the couch. I kid! I guess some people get worked up over stuff like this but I don't. I do think the context does have something to do with it though. I do try to watch what I say though because the world is becoming more politically correct all the time.

I don't know too much about the improved teams in the conference. Some of them might be better but you are taking out ORU, USD probably wont be as good and some other teams lost some big time seniors.

I think the post game should be OK. They wont be able to shoot from outside like Sunny did but they showed flashes of ability as freshmen. Every year SDSU has good players graduate and they always have somebody step up. Steph's injury might add a little more stress but I feel good about the reloading not rebuilding. Some year AJ might have a problem but until he does, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Isn't the Delaware State game at Delaware State? Doesn't seem to make much sense to have it at home if the Jacks play at Penn State on the 16th and Georgetown on the 21st.
That will be a great road-trip test. Penn State is always tough, and Georgetown is a tough place to play. Hoyas won an NCAA game last year, although they lost their coach and best player.
