    Re: Hampton GDT...

Watched the game on the internet. Great game by the women. Hope the threes come around against Purdue. I think we'll need them. Heiser was conspicuously absent last night. After a good game aginst Utah Valley she didn't even get into the game against Hampton! Anybody know why?

TV said something about a death in the family. Don't know anything more.

I ended up reading that after i had posted this morning. It must have been a combination of our defense and her having an off night then. She looked like she didn't belong on the court. Brutal shots all night long.

Thanks. Missed that last night. My condolences go out to her and her family.

She probably got sick and tired of being pounded on all night and quit. Our girls are physical players.

Her grandmother, Gloria Stevenson, passed away late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Great woman and the mother of 4 athletes at SDSU. Karla, Pam (Tara's mom), Mark and Matt Stevenson as well as the rest of the family, my heart felt condolences over the loss of a great woman.

I hope that is true. I like the thought of our team being able to break the spirit of other teams.

IMO the only players that I saw last night that would have a place on the SDSU team were perhaps the guards. But even they seemed smaller than the players AJ likes.

Great win Ladies, keep it going!! Pretty sure deep-down where AJ doesn't want to go...he really, really wants to beat Purdue. I know he was upset when he lost out on Osterello, so this game should be a fun one. A buddy of mine is a Purdue grad and mentioned that they've already lost two gals to ACL tears this year.

Just wanted to bring something up and hopefully it doesn't take this thread off-track. But I just talked to a friend that was at the game and asked him about the attendance. I told him how loud it was at times through the radio and then asked him if he truly thought there was only 1200 people there.
He said there is abolutely NO-WAY there was only 1200 in attendance. If he was to guess there was at least 2000-2500. Even TV was surprised, and seems like he's always surprised at the announced attendance at Frost.
I guess I was just surpised at the announced attendence because of how loud it sounded over the radio broadcast and thought I'd bring it up.

Anyone else that was there care to comment?

                      Re: Hampton GDT...

I'd like to see more consistency from the 3-point line as I'm sure every player on the team, every coach on the bench, and every fan in the stands would like to see. It's amazing to me how streaky 3-point shooters can be but it happens at almost every level. One night no one on the team can miss and the next night, nothing goes in.

Fortunately, our post players are maturing just as I expected and we have the option to go inside. That said, you can't stop taking open 3's and trying to force it inside when teams pack the lane. That just leads to turnovers, disruption of the flow of the game due to fouls, and a stagnant offense often resulting in decreased hustle and aggressiveness on the defensive side of the ball.

I thought SDSU played a great game last night. Very patient early, getting the ball inside while the 3-point shots weren't falling. Hitting the boards, running the floor when able, playing tough defense (except on the 3 point line). Then, wearing down a team that wasn't as deep or athletic across the roster. It got a little ugly late with too many fouls but we made the FT's and won convincingly.

I hope we shoot well and give Purdue all they can handle. Going to be extremely difficult to sneak out of there with a win but I know we will compete.

Whoever made the decision to focus on the inside game was a genious.Sunnarborg is going to be a beast the next two yrs. This should help the 3 pt shooters to relax more to know we have another phase of our game to go to .Dietel is really comming on strong for only being a sophomore.I feel great about this team as the competition gets stronger the farther we get into the tourney. On a sad note,my condolences go out to Tara with the recent loss of her grandmother.

Agree, it did seem like a good crowd, better than 1200. The television highlights appeared to show more than that as well. However, I assume neither of the upper level end bleachers were pulled out and they didn't show the upper level GA bleachers on tv.

I will say I'm not surprised with the attendance # that was reported. I was rather disappointed with the turnout last night by our fans. I'm chalking it up to most people not understanding this pre-season WNIT stuff and not knowing for sure what date the games are. Also, not even knowing if we are going to play at home or not.

With that said, I was impressed with the noise level last night despite only 1280 fans being there. The crowd strongly backed a team that was playing really hard in some cruicial moments of the game. Also, you could tell AJ was really into the game considering his emotions on the sidelines! Lots of foot stomping last night .

Also, I've noticed at this year's BB games that the ticket ushers are now using barcode scanners which should make our attendance figures as accurate as they can be.

Watch out for the second half this year.Seems to me this year(odd year?),that, a lot of teams are trending to have big defensive 2nd halves, where they hold the opposition to practicaly nil after a fairly even first half.
Purdue is a good example of a team that likes to pour on the defensive pressure particularly in the second half. They, like the Jacks, pride themselves in thier defense.
KK Houser of Neb(Lincoln Southeast HS ?) all stater first team ,thier prize point gaurd, was the injured player you speak of....don't know who the other one is.But they have an ample replacement in Courtney Moses, just a freshman, but a really good recruit from Indiana(miss basketball, i believe)Purdue went to the up tempo game this year,& it's resulted in some good wins for them. These teams seem similar to me, for some reason.Should be a really good game.
Last year they had lots of turnovers, maybe we can get them rattled a little & see if we can get them to make a few mistakes. They complained on thier board about Toledo getting away with moving screens, boy,we sure didn't.Was listening on the radio & the first three subs that were sent in, the very first thing each & every one of them did was get called for a moving screen.Got to learn what the refs are calling & what they are not. That can be a big factor in a tight game.Try to get the most shots at the basket as you can,.....'cause nobody makes them all.

Purdue's attendance for the first two games of the WNIT:

                                vs. Austin Peay.....8,414
                                vs. Toledo............8,320
