The game would almost have to be on Sat or Sun. I think that is the only thing up in the air right now. I'm hoping for a Sat. nite game.....something about the atmosphere in Frost on Sat nights

Just heard the news! Congratulations and good luck. This is really going the make the WNIT fun this year.

How was the bye determined. Was it because of your record or is it part of the draw?

Our RPI score had us as a top 16 (of 48). So our "record" was the reason. No luck of the draw issue to get the bye.

SDSU earns spot in national tourney
Team is first to make postseason in D-I

The confirmation came later than expected, but the achievement came sooner than most thought possible.

The South Dakota State women's basketball team, in only its third season at the NCAA Division I level, was selected Monday night to play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament, becoming the first program in the event's 10-year history to gain an invitation while making the transition from Division II and the first team in any sport in state history to qualify for a Division I postseason tournament.

One of 17 at-large picks in the 48-team field, the Jackrabbits (23-5) have a first-round bye before meeting the winner of Thursday's Rice (19-13) at Illinois State (20-10) game. According to the bracket posted on the WNIT Web site, SDSU, which submitted bids last week to entertain every round, will host a second-round contest at Frost Arena on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. . . . As you all know from my posts on this site that I have always been very optimistic about SDSU's move to D-1. Always figuring on there being some rough patches along the way which could still happen. I hadn't ever dreamt about things going this well to this point as far as conferences and things go.

LAST NIGHT IS WHEN IT REALLY HIT ME! After I heard the announcement that SDSU was in the WNIT and that we recieved a bye. This is the type of thing that is possible for our student athletes to compete in. As a matter of fact, this the tip of the iceberg when you think about when we are fully eligible in all sports!

Every Jackrabbit fan around the state and around the country can puff their chest out and be proud to be a fan of this university! It is time to just let the excitement out! What a great day to be a Jackrabbit!

A big THANKS to Filbert for getting the board up and running again. I practically expired last night when I saw it crash!!! Luckily I was flipping back and forth between all three TV sports casts and caught Mark Ovenden with his final phone message "We're IN!!"

What a great day for South Dakota State on our difficult journey from DII to DI! It is always great to be a Jackrabbit, but this is an especially GREAT DAY! Congrats to the athletic department for placing a guarantee high enough to get our Jacks a home game! Congrats to AJ and the rest of the coaches. Congrats to the team! What more can one say. Oh yeah -- see you at THE GAME!!!!!!

Terry's blog is and has been a GREAT place to follow the Rabbits' run, both to the WNIT, and to the Gateway.

To Terry - Thanks for the SUPER coverage.

To FILBERT & 89Rabbit - Thanks for keeping this fans site a rolling. And well, except with too many refreshes! ;D

Sent CBS Sportsline a comment pointing out the error of their ways...we will see if that leads to any changes or if they just don't care! There is ONLY one REAL SDSU!!! GO JACKS!

They are meeting as right now to determine the date. Saturday conflicts with high school boys state tourneys, Sunday has never had great crowds, and Monday the students are back. I told my source it doesn't matter, we will pack the house on any night. Sounds like if we win we may also host a 3rd round game.
