  • Re: WNIT

Those stats about the home teams are very relavant. Notice the first three teams to win are the home teams. With the Jacks home record and fan support, it's hard not to get exited about the possibilities. Assuming they make a run at it, it will be simply amazing to watch it all unfold in Brookings.

Another reason we should be thankful we didn't get into the Big Sky.  It seems as though the NCAA selection committee didn't value Montana's schedule much, and then they lose this game.

I'm a bit worried we aren't going to have as strong of schedule in future years since we won't have as much control due to being in the Mid-Con.  That could potentially hurt our overall strength of schedule and RPI.  Although I think we'll have a great shot at winning the conference tournament year in and year out.  Let's hope anyways!

I have been thumbing through the Argus all week, watching the stories on the news at night, and just taking in all of the buzz surrounding the game Saturday night and some thoughts came to mind while I was listening to people talk about it at work over the lunch hour.

        1. THIS IS A REALLY BIG DEAL FOR SDSU! It will give Jackrabbit fans their first taste of what will happen at the D-1 level. Didn't this seem so far away a few short years ago? It is great for every aspect of SDSU!

        2. THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOR SOUTH DAKOTA! This is the first time a team will compete in a national tournament at this level. You can feel the buzz when you talk to people from around the state!

        3. I HOPE USD FANS ARE PAYING ATTENTION TO THIS EVENT! Seriously, they are just entering the transition faze which all of us Jack fans know absolutely sucks! If they are willing to take of the "rose-colored Chad Lavin glasses" for a few moments, they will be able to see what could be at the end of the rainbow in a few years.

This is truly history in the making! By the way, these ladies have a great shot at making a huge run in this deal and I think will have the desire to do it. They were so bummed about not getting in last year that it has become their focus to not only get in but make some noise! There isn't a team happier to be in the WNIT anywhere in the nation!

        Best of luck ladies!

Our Jackrabbit women have done something no other South Dakota school has accomplished - qualified a team for post-season Division 1 play, earning a first-round bye in the field of 48 in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

Since the WNIT is still private, do the teams or conferences get any part of the earnings?

I'm guessing so thats why there is a bid process, if you didn't get something why would you want to host it? and what would stop you from just letting people in.. I'm just guessing though

In the 1st round only 3 0f 16 homes failed to win. San Diego, St. Joseph's, & Oakland all lost at home in round 1. SDSU has sold almost 3 times as many tickets for Saturday's game as any game in the 1st round had for attendance. This is BIG. REALLY BIG

I'm guessing they offer a portion of the proceeds from the game. With a sell out crowd and tourney prices, I'm sure SDSU will come ahead especially with a deep run at home.

Could you imagine a championship rematch against Minn at either place? Even Missouri? Not likely but possible.

At home, I'd have to pick the Jacks all the way!!

Congratulations on the win! How long can SDSU keep the games at home? I'm told it is determined by bids? How does that work? Does that mean whoever guarantees that greatest number of tickets sold gets to host? If you can get this big a crowd for an opening game, the interest should be at least as great as you move farther through the tournament. Do you think that SDSU can outbid the potential opponents, and keep playing at home all the way through?

Regarding bids: I'm told that attendance is nice, but money talks. It's possible that, at some point here, somebody will put up a big number ($50,000?) to the NIT and get a home game away from us (assuming we keep winning). You know that Indiana game last year where they had like 658 people there? They bought the game with a large cash bid. I see that Oregon was giving away free tickets to its games and free pizza to all the students in attendance. Tickets at another site this year were $6 and $4. Sad that they have to play those games and flex their wallets when we can get 6,000 paying customers (paying an extra $1 each round) to show up and make that kind of noise.
                                Holy nutmeg!
