We forced 22 turnovers but gave up 18. Scott Nagy had his team ready to play, those guys kept coming after us, a guy like Ben Beran gets going and anything can happen.
A great showing for the Jacks. I dont know if Casey is an answer for our 3rd gaurd but I am impressed with his no fear game. He handled the ball well and on a few occasions left his deffenders with his quick cross over.
This team will gell...if they stay together I expect we are going to see a tremendous BB team for years to come.
I think a lot of people in the state of SD should be proud, Kntucky did not pull there starters at the end of the game and we kept pushing. I liked the comment from the color man on ESPNU "Now I know why their called the Jackrabbits".
Here is my take, the Jackrabbits looked like a Mid-Major team playing Kentucky. They didn't look like a D-II team, they didn't look like last years team, they looked like a team that belonged on the floor.
The ESPNU announcers couldn't have been anymore positive and I think they were genuinely surprised at how well we played. They really liked how we never gave up (something that couldn't always be said about last year's squad). At one point late in the game they said it "felt like a 6 or 7 point game".
Something for everyone to remember, Kentucky is probably the most talented team we will see all year.
I am very optimistic about this team and this season! 8)
I sat in Cubby's last night and soaked in the moment. For years, I've watched my colleagues who graduated from big time universities cheer on their alma maters while watching them play on national television. I envied them.
Not anymore.
I do envy the students attending SDSU at this time. 10-15 years from now they will see a Jackrabbit program in full bloom. It will be an exciting time.
I'll be an old guy, remembering the struggle to make the transition. I'll remember the small thinkers and the countless unkind comments. I'm going to sit and smile, watching Jackrabbit athletes make us proud.

This is only the beginning.
I could not agree more with all that you said Alumguy. In 10 to 15 years from now I will be that much older too and am hoping I can still climb all the stairs at Frost and keep my good seats in section C lower level. I am hoping the point system for seating will become intensely competitive that I get shoved back a few rows. It would not hurt my pride but would tell me that we have more people who have step up their giving and value the good view of the game.
Yes I spent a lot time explaining Pete Retzlaff, Jim Langer, and Wayne Rasumussen to Purdue, Northwestern, Ohio State and Illinois alums, when I lived in Ohio and Illinois. Most hardly knew where SD was on the map but there were a few who have been to the Black Hills. I recall one who complained about a flat tire near Midland or Phillip SD. Few knew anything about SDSU, and worse yet, they did not follow D2 athletics. So this is the dawn of a new age.
My few comments on the game. I watched at Champs. Was fun cheering with the crowd as we got our first points, first dunk on National TV.
The part that looked the worst was the turnovers that we lost without even much pressure. That and the few guys that weren't as poised. One that stands out was Casey, he wasn't taking good shots.
They didn't like Holdren because he basically wrestled a guy to the ground and he ended up with a bloody nose. It didn't look very good.
Beran was awesome under the glass and our rebounding was good. We should hang with most teams with our D, but will need to make shots to win games.

I thought Casey gave us some good minutes. Yes, he was 1 for 6, but nobody except Beran shot well (Frias, 0-6; Holdren 2-11, for example). And Casey led the team with four assists (Cadwell also had 4) and added 3 rebounds. Plus, he handled the ball pretty well against the pressure.

I was also at Cubby's for the game and had a good time. The crowd was really in to it, and everyone was glued to a TV. Everytime we scored a point people were cheering. The DEFENSE chear even got started a few times. Even with the loss I think spirits were high, and I can't wait to watch more games this season.
