The 3 seniors played a good game to finish their college careers. Mark played so differently after being called for 3 fouls in less than 30 seconds. Was really nice to see Kai be that aggressive. And I agree with your comment regarding Garrett.

I don't think Engen played after those three fouls were called on him

Two of those 3 three calls were "iffy" but I could see why they got called.

Palarca played one heck of a game. He was great taking it to the rim tonight.

I am disappointed that fans like this still exist.

C'mon, show some school spirit and cheer for the Jacks or give your tickets to someone who actually cares. I could care less about attendance numbers unless everyone of those people is going to cheer for the rabbits. If you're gonna sit there and be a poor sport....stay home.
I stood up several times to start to get the crowd going, and basically hit a brick wall of apathy--this was when the game was still in doubt and the team could have used a really, really loud Arena crowd to help them on defense.

I sat down several times, muttering darkly after abjectly failing to get people to stand up and start making noise.

          Very discouraging.

Learn how to be a Division I crowd, people! Go to the Barn at the U of M, go to Allen Fieldhouse at KU . . . when the team needs the fans, the fans are there.

          That didn't happen tonight.

But, still, it's the players on the floor that have to win, or will lose the game in the final analysis. The SDSU players didn't make enough plays to win the game--the IPFW players did.

We take the hurt, we move on, we start planning and hoping for next season, and we focus on the women's team for the push to a second NCAA bid.

          Go Rabbits!

I, actually my daughter, has a question that I don't know if anyone knows the answer to, but has our band been instructed not to do any cheering/chanting or the like? They had a markedly different approach than any other band, so much so that I thought it had to be "orchestrated from on high."

...couldn't agree more. 4500+ Jacks fans in the place and about 100 wanted to cheer. I'm so pissed off about it right now I probably shouldn't post for awhile...

As far as knowing for sure if they were instructed on how to act, can't say for sure. All I do know is I don't ever want our band to act like IPFW's band. High school chats of "I'm blind, I'm deaf, I want to be a ref" and the good ole' "nuts and bolts, nuts and bolts, we got -------" don't really have any place in bands supporting DI athletics.

To me, the highlight was the "overrated" chant.

You're a flippin' #5 seed playing the #4 seed. The only difference is one team has to wear road unis.

There are many times that I think are cheerleaders have been instructed not to cheer, let alone the band. I have heard many refer to them as the Stunt Team and not the Cheer Team. Our band and cheerleaders should be taking notes and sorting through them and trying to improve. I commented on this during last years Summit Tourney, but I see little if any improvement.

I suspect Dr. Coull does not consider organized cheers 'cricket'.

I kind of agree with him.

But I also like the guy that does the shrieking conniption fit whenever someone on the other team shoots a free throw.

                        I'm so conflicted.

I'm not a member of the band and don't have any inside info but I know when I was member of the band that played at State football that the instructor was given strict instructions on what to do, when to play, when to cheer and so on (just a guess), as far as the cheerleaders, I think some of it is logistics (the fans closest to them are generally the older, laid back group where the students are up high).... As far as IPFW's band I give them a little credit they weren't afraid or intimidated, stupid/dumb/immature YES they were all of them.... As far as the crowd I agree it seemed like a whine and cheese crowd.... Last year the crowd was what won the game, maybe the early game (not enough beer in the fans), I don't know what it was.......

Well I was sitting right in front of you, Filbert, and I thought the crowd was pretty good. There were several instances where pretty much all 5,000 SDSU fans in the house were chanting "let's go rabbits". At other times, the entire place stood up to urge on the defense. It was loud when it needed to be loud, and it was quiet when it needed to be quiet (free throws). TV kept mentioning on his blog (was following on my iPod) how great the crowd was. He's generally not one to sugar coat things.

I have been a fan at Iowa, Purdue, and Oklahoma. Honestly, their fans are no different than ours. Yes, it's louder at Williams and Allen. But then again, there are three times as many fans in those arenas than there were in the SF Arena last night. There seems to be a mentality among some great fans like yourself that the rest of us are "bad" fans because we don't stand for the entire game. When the people in front of me sit down, I do to, so as not to block things for the people behind me. But I'm cheering along with the "dee-fense" "let's go rabbits" or "SDSU" cheers. I was hoarse when I went home last night.

There were a few people in our section who were better fans than the rest, but overall, the crowd was pretty darned good. I think our fans are finally starting to catch on. It takes time, and a lot of wins, to build up a mentality among fans (particularly stoic midwesterners) that they can impact the game by cheering for their team.

Chris Paul seems to feel like the crowd had quite an impact on the women's game. I have come to appreciate his honesty as well.

I think I'm with you on the cheering, at least the organized, high-school cheers the IPFW band was doing. I would like to see more evidence that the band members are having fun, though. Sometimes it doesn't really seem like it.

I was really impressed with UMKC's band. They were into it and played some really good songs. Last year I was impressed with the Oakland and ORU bands, too. Lots of energy there. NDSU has more of an old-school pep band, with tubas instead of a bass guitar. They were energetic, too.

I'd say our pep band could use some of the crazy attitude of the Pride's awesome drum line. No reason the pep band couldn't be the same kind of memorable, cohesive, fun-loving unit.
