Jerry Smith is a top 20 player in the nation according to most rankings. Pretty amazing player.

I don't think it is necessarily new news but we do have offers out to both tweidt and pesicka.  I really hope we land tweidt, i think it would turn a lot of people our way in SD if we could get the next big D1 recruit from the state.

            I found this from 4/15/05.

With UNI landing Sioux City's Roman Gentry they have used up their scholarship allotment for class of 2006.

                Re: 2006 Recruits

A number of the major schools are getting verbal committments for seniors and juniors to be. I hope to see SDSU getting some verbal committments before the coming season. The two South Dakota kids we have discussed (Tweidt and Cordova) would be a good start to the 2006 recruiting class.

A little birdie told me the SDSU staff is currently down in Vegas for the annual AAA summer tournament games looking to fill our 2006 roster. "best available athlete" is the key phrase.

I happen to be in Vegas maybe 12 years ago when the Nike tourney was going on and even saw a SD team play that included Jason the kid from Watertown who played for Mizzo and the Klock kid who played at state maybe two years.

These tournaments attract a ton of coaches and that is where we should be in order to make our program a true D1 program. No doubt there will be one or more recruits  that talent wise will fit the program. You hope too, they are very serious about an education.

I think these tournaments have basically replaced watching high school state tournaments in search of talent.

Scouthoops.com shows SDSU has interest in Hazma Ruhezmihigo a native of Central Africa who has lived most of his life in Edmonton Canada. He is 6'3  PG/SG and also has interest from Canisus, Penn State and Yale.

Interesting . . . somebody at SDSU must have some Canadian connections. Or we're just looking for recruits who'll think Brookings in February is downright tropical! ;D ;D

I think a player State should look at is Aberdeen Central '04 Graduate, Derrick McCauley. Last year as a freshman he played at a JUCO in Nebraska. He also made the Memphis University practice squad. He is a true talent, with some added strength he could be a very good D1 player. He's about 6'2, very athletic. I remember when they where playing at Pierre and he threw down a reverse dunk. He also scored 43 points at Yankton. I don't have any stats avilable though.

Also saw Roman Gentry play heading into his junior year at the Twolves Shootout, he's a good player. Pretty good athlete. He can shoot the 3 ball well also.

Great news posted on another thread, so I thought I would post it here as well.

                              http://www.dakotaschoolers.com/pages/2/index.htm

Anthony Cordova has verbally committed to attend South Dakota State University begining with the 2006-07 basketball season. Cordova a senior at Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School choose SDSU over a few other Division I schools and many Division II NCC schools. Cordova averaged 10 ppg in 37 games this summer for the Schoolers and was a key member of the record setting Schooler team.

                              Go State! ;D

Jacks were shown to having interest in two players.

Roman Gentry 6'4 Sioux City East Bradley, Creighton, Iowa,NDSU, SDSU. UNI and Illinois State are rumored to have offered. Also Wyoming now in the mix.

Anthony Cordova 6'7 Sioux Falls Roosevelt- SDSU, NDSU This is the first time I have seen Cordova listed on any  of the scouting services. It shows he is a one star recruit and has been offered by both schools.  I think if Anthony has a good summer with the Schoolers his stock will continue to rise.

You are right again, Anthony has now moved up to two stars.  Glad we got him, he is a real nice get!  8)
