I would just suggest, in the future, you do not spread rumors like this unless you are 100% sure. It's not at all fair to the kids.

I heard, from the kid who is actually in question here, that said player was a few minutes late to the bus, therefore the punishment. I think I said earlier on here that it must be something pretty trivial if Nagy let him play the next game.
Coach Nagy did mention in a post-game interview that the team needed to pay attention to detail... and he specifically mentioned being on time for the team bus as one of those details.

Maybe WSR is new here and wasn't around for the great rumor controversy of 2008 when we all realized that it's pointless and unfair to post stuff like that without identifying your source so we can assess the credibility of the information.

WSR joined in early 2007 I believe.

Nagy stated that the reason for the discipline was being late for the bus. If there was something much more serious (as described by WSR), would Nagy lie about the reasoning? That would be a disaster waiting to happen because once it came out, and it would, how could Nagy deal with it?
"Late for the bus is more important?" That wouldn't go over at all.
"This was just the last straw?" That would only bring questions about what the other straws were.
"We didn't know about that and it will be addressed?" 'Have you lost control of the team and program' is then the follow-up.

This rumor makes absolutely no sense and I believe WSR has major credibility problems with this and his other posts.

My source is from in the Student Affairs office. I'm sorry if I ruffled feathers, but I know what I said is true and I do stand by it. The last thing I'm going to say is please don't put the athletes on such a pedestal. They are college age students and yes they do dumb things like the rest of us. I came reporting what I do know as fact and I'm sorry if that upset people. Thanks.

I've heard stories about athletes from various sources inside the university. Not one of them have been accurate. Why? Well, we could discuss that to no end. Some of it has to do with envy, of that I am certain.

Advice, if you want to take it, hear the rumor and leave it at that. Unless, you know it isn't true, then I'd advise you squash it.

              ?

Did you -see- any of this take place?

By your own admission you did not.

The only -fact- at your disposal is the -fact- that someone in student affairs told you something.

And that's assuming that you're not lying to the rest of us right now.

I do agree with WSR on this, as I lived on the same floor as the football players as a freshman at SDSU and they did some pretty crazy stuff... but at the same time, I don't think a message board is really the place to discuss these antics. Unless they get an citation or the violation is cited in a credible media outlet, if you hear things like this you should probably just [cringe][laugh][face palm] and then move on, not report it on a public forum.

Really? If someone in Student Affairs is talking to you about anything related to student discipline, they're in violation of FERPA, and the university could find itself paying a large fine to the federal government. It's no joke.

FERPA isn't about putting anybody on a pedestal, it's about protecting student privacy, and that includes all students. You might want to tell your source to look up FERPA and see what it's all about.

Sorry, but by being a student athletes they are putting themselves on a pedestal. While they may be college students their actions are scrutinized more closely by nature of being in the public eye. If they can't handle it then they are not in the right setting. Once a scholarship is accepted or walk-on position taken the rules do change. It's a fact that needs to be lived with.

I've made this argument before. RO and others will say they are just college students and can behave in an irresponible manner because of that fact. My family funds an endowment that provides scholarships to students at SDSU. Our name is on that scholarship. When a student athlete or not is selected to receive money to fund their education from that scholarship they accept the responsibility to represent the values of those individuals who provide that opportunity. You represent more than just yourself when you put on Jackrabbit gear, on the field, in the stands and elsewhere in the community.

Wait, what? Where did I say anything about student athletes being "just college students" and can behave in an irresponsible manner?

                          Perhaps I misunderstood this post:

                          http://sdsufans.com/board/showthread.php?t=9486&page=10

Did you specifically look for bad behavior from SDSU students? There were members in the student section that flipped off the USD team when they came on to the floor the first time.

We are all just college kids. Stuff like that is going to happen, especially when alcohol is involved. There is no way to police all of it.

I should explain that I didn't really understand how poor public behavior can reflect negatively on more than just the individual when I was a college student either. I made plenty of poor choices and ended up receiving discipline for them, I have lived and I have learned. I expect most of us have.

I thought we were talking about student athletes being held to a higher standard? My post was referring to just the student sections, not the athletes.

And I wasn't excusing behavior, more explaining it. Of course, Zooropa read way too far into my initial post.
