Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos are 3-3 losing last game to Northern Iowa 87-64. They are young with mostly Jr. and So playing with a few freshmen. They play a 7 player rotation with each getting about 20 min. or more. Lead by 3 players avg. in double figures.
Quinton Day 6-1 G 19.4 pt. per game
Dee Ayuba 6-6 F 17.6 pt. per game and 7.4 reb.
Tim Blackwell 6-4 G 13.8 pt. per game
Brian Gettinger 6-9 F 5.6 pt. per game
Kyle Spears 6-9 F 4.4 pt. per game 6.2 reb.
Blake Crawford 6-8 F 4.0 pt. per game
Dane Brumagin 6-4 G 3.4 pt. per game

I think we have had a tougher schedule thus far, and this may help in a close one. Last year we lost 85-95.

UMKC men hope to end road woes

    By DAVID BOYCE

    The Kansas City Star

A look at the record suggests South Dakota State is the perfect opponent for UMKC to snap its two-game road losing streak that has dropped the Kangaroos to 3-3.

The Jackrabbits will take a 2-7 record into tonight’s game against UMKC, which will try to rebound from losses at Penn State and at Northern Iowa last week.

“Obviously, a win will help our confidence,” UMKC coach Rich Zvosec said. “We just need to play better on the defensive end. We’ve played well enough on the offensive end to win, but we are just not guarding people.”

South Dakota State is still in the early stages of moving up to Division I and is currently an independent school searching for a conference.

And that’s where the Jackrabbits’ record is a little deceiving. They have already played some Division I heavy hitters . . .

The bad news for UMKC is that South Dakota State seems to be getting better. On Thursday, it lost 76-67 at Nebraska.

South Dakota State then snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday by pulling out an 81-78 overtime victory at home against Denver.

“Three of their losses have been to top-25 teams. They are a better team at home than on the road,” Zvosec said.

Zvosec is making a lineup change to try to improve his inside defense. Junior Kyle Spears will make his first start for UMKC, replacing junior Blake Crawford.

“We’ve got to get back to what we did in our first four games, and that is to take away scoring inside,” Zvosec said. . . .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't UMKC in the Mid-Continent Conference? If we could beat them (and I think this is certainly a winnable game) maybe it would help give some momentum to getting us into the Mid-Cont.

Yes UMKC is Mid Continent so winning tonight will be a big step forward. I hope our guys still have their legs. If our guys were all over 60 like me I would try to get the game postpone until maybe Saturday? ;D

Here is a link to the UMKC fan board. It is brand new and doesn't have a lot or reg. users yet, but the ones they do have are good guys.

              Re: Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos

After my "performance" regarding the Denver game not sure anyone cares what I have to say with the exception that they might be able to rip me as was deserved Saturday night.

This is definitely a game we can win.  I think we match-up okay.  They might be a little tough to match up with at the 1/2 spot but I think we have the advantage udnerneath.  My understanding is that their guard play dictates their performance.  Guards do the scoring but are prone to turnovers.  We should dominate on the boards.  If they get hot from outside the could put some points on the board.

My hope is that we can come out with some intensity off the big win vs Denver.  We need this game at home.  If our D opens up tough we should be able to get some easy shots.

Working again tonight.  In a better mood.  Looking forward to a good game and hopefully a Jacks win.

The gamecenter stats are about 30 secs ahead of the radio broadcast--tends to spoil some of the excitement by following it to closely.

Better defense the last couple of minutes. If we can play even or push this lead out to 10 by the half I would take that.

They keep shooting, we keep rebounding the misses.

I hope we can establish some inside scoring.

Heien 3 for 3 on threes now, he keeps shooting like this we won't need any inside scoring

This I understand but the if is a big one. I'd like to see Loney get some touches.

                            Now he is 4-4.

Seems the boards are ours to control. Continued pressure on their guards and we should get some easy buckets off misses. I feel a little run coming for the Jacks.
