Cornell leads USD 36-31 at halftime.

Cornell led #1 KU by 41-38 at halftime on Wednesday. Of course KU played about as poorly as they could have and Cornell played about as good as they could have, but still. This is kind of a letdown game for Cornell. Their 4th or 5th day on the road and coming off a KU game where they probably should have won. Still, a good first half effort by Udot, Cornell is good.

        IUPUI 90
        ORU 87 (OT)
Played at Conseco Fieldhouse (Indianapolis) The 87 points are close to 20 more than ORU normally averages. ORU has to be upset after this one. IUPUI is legit, I picked them to finish 2nd this pre-season, but this leaves ORU 4-3 in conference and two games out of 2nd place and just 2-2 after beating #12 New Mexico. IUPUI is now 5-1 in conference.

        Oakland 87
        UMKC 73
In Oakland....not surprise here. I guess one surprise might be Oakland only outscoring UMKC by 3 in the second half, but I imagine Oakland never really was challenged. Oakland is the second toughest place to play in the Summit.

        IPFW 61
        SUU 56
Played at IPFW....IPFW came into this 1-4 needing a win....SUU came in also at 1-4 and without a road win this year. IPFW outscored SUU by 11 in the 2nd half. A key game for these two as it looks like SUU will be fighting WIU for that final playoff spot.

        WIU 70
        Centenary 51
Played at WIU....Centenary scored 15 in the first half. WIU needed to hold sevre athome as they entered tonights game 0-5 in league play. Loss drops CC to 2-5.

IPFW, ORU, IUPUI and Jacks get win.

Tie at the top with Oakland and IUPUI.
Tie for 3rd Jacks and ORU.
          IPFW in 5th place alone.
NDSU 1 back in 6th place.

Wow, IUPUI put it on Oakland!

As for NDSU-ORU. I predicted a 70-56 score on the ORU board, final was 71-57. Ugly game overall but the second half was really bad, especially for NDSU. Game was tied 37-37 at the 14:47 mark. Then it all changed and at the 4:43 mark it was 61-41. Ouch 4 points (I believe 2 were FT's) in 10 minutes for NDSU and outscored 24-4.

Good news on the IPFW win. Would much rather face them in round one then NDSU. Plus it would really benefit the SFSA and the Summt.

              Re: Summit League scores...

Pretty much everybody has at least one real clunker of a game at this level. Heck, even Kansas has those kinds of games. (Of course, their racehorse athletes are usually able to pull out a W even when they play like crap, unless they run into somebody like an inspired, motivated, understaffed Tennessee team, for instance).

If you're lucky, you play your worst game against a bad team, and get away with it.

IUPUI isn't a bad team, and Oakland paid the price. SDSU isn't a bad team, either, and I seem to recall that we got our head handed to us in Indianapolis, too, earlier this season . . .

Yep....and I viewed this as Oaklands last big test. Maybe a wake-up call for them?

Good for IUPUI and Ron Hunter. Hunter is a good guy and he and Nagy seem to be developing a nice relationship. They were on Outside the Lines together last week and there seems to be a bond there.

IUPUI is just as good as Oakland, they just aren't as deep.

ORU defiantly looked beatable against NDSU, I think SDSU is a the better team but we'll see Saturday night. If the Jacks win it will be our third straight over ORU.

Three straight vs. the Golden Eagles would definitely get into their heads, I think . . .

Seems to me that there are five programs that look like they have the capability to be consistently competitive in the Summit League: Oakland, IUPUI, Oral Roberts, NDSU, and (I hope) SDSU. IPFW might be in that group, too--I like Fife as a coach. If UMKC can hang on to their coach, they might be able to join the party, too. SUU suffers from its geographic remoteness, I think, and Western Illinois is just in a bad place right now. USD, all smack aside, should be able to join the consistently-competitive group unless they have some of the setbacks SDSU had a few years ago, or a couple of key injuries/incidents like NDSU has had after their fab five departed. (Even so, I'm very impressed with the toughness of the Bison.)

This could wind up being a pretty good league, if all of the teams keep improving and raising the bar a little bit every year.

On the one hand, that's totally uncalled-for.

On the other hand, I DO hate IPFW . . .

That, imo, is the biggest upset of the conference season so far! That is including IUPUI over Oakland.

                                UMKC 58
                                NDSU 56
                                At NDSU
Apparently the BSA was near empty. This is a good thing. This loss really makes it look like they'll finish 6th, thus avoiding a 1st round matchup w/ the GOOD GUYS!

                                ORU 71
                                IPFW 68 (OT)
                                At IPFW
Wow, IPFW is playing some good ball right now. Not sure how this went down but I'll report back when I find out. Man, imagine if ORU losses this one and the SDSU game.

                                Oakland 75
                                Centenary 64
                                At Oakland
Man, Oakland seems real beatable all of the sudden.
