The noncounter regular season games are included in the ESPN and other standings and records that are reported. The only places they do not show up are in some computer rankings such as Sagarin and RPI rankings.

Here is a link to the SDSU page on ESPN. The UI (Upper Iowa) and Mayville games are listed in the results on the left and they are counted in the 13 and 20 record reported in the standings on the right. The Southwest Minnesota game from last year is not in either because it was an exhibition game and not a regular season game like the Mayville State and Upper Iowa games were.

Looks like most Summit teams played non-counters. Note also that Minnesota opened with Concordia St. Paul, Indiana played Chaminade and Kansas State played Emporia State. Forty miles away and I think it's a better choice than NJIT.

Maybe better than NJIT, but not better than UND or USD. Whether other teams do it or not, it still is not ideal to me. Mayville State? They are NAIA D2 .... I know, I know, they will now be transitioning to D2 but they weren't when we signed them up.

Actually, Minot State is the one transitioning to NCAA D-II... Mayville State is staying in NAIA and the DAC.

              Re: Southwest Minnesota State

I have no problem seeing us play a couple of area DII in exhibition games and maybe one in the early regular season as even most of the majors do it. I would like to see that pool come from Northern, Augie, Southwest MN State, MN State Mankato and now USF.

Agree with this statement since it would increase attendance. Let's celebrate with YouTube of Purdue coach discussing the value of playing Northern (think this was an exhibition).

Me too when it is exhibition games we are talking about. It is when we play them in the regular season that I don't like.

As for your statement that "most of the majors do it..." I don't know if that is true about regular season games. I know Minnesota had to play CSP last year for a regular season game, and Tubby was none too happy about it. Some other D1 team, I can't remember who and it was a low major team, pulled out of Minnesota's early season tournament and CSP was a last minute fill in.

I was referring to most major college teams play an exhibition games against a DII... In the Regular Season if it means (playing a DII) the only way we can get one more home game than I would take it and the gate and concessions that go with it. Home non-conference DI games are still very difficult to get!

HOW DARE YOU ADD AN 'E' TO MY NAME!

Seriously, though... I believe there is a chance that the game can count as an exhibition for you and a non-conference for us. Not sure about that though. But it doesn't look like other exhibition games are listed on your schedule, so that may be the case.

I look forward to spending the day after my 23rd to see if my Mustangs can repeat last year's performance.

Now that I blew the spelling of your name, I suppose you will organize some kind of Mustang boycott, and bring your own popcorn so you dont have to spend any money at Frost. I think SWMU is a worthy opponent. If you beat us again, some of us will be very upset.

Was planning on it anyways. We all know popcorn is better in Minnesota.

Oh..... and another thing, its SMSU, not SWMU. And yes, we are a worthy opponent.

The last time I looked, about half of D-I teams played at least one non-D-I team in a regular season game. I wish I remembered where I saw that list.

I don't care if it's exhibition or a regular season game if we don't throttle the Mustangs by 20+ I would think the team and coaching staff would be very disapointed. You had a very solid team last year and we came out flat and did not compete. With more experience, depth, length and talent than we have had since the transition to DI this one should be over quick!

Actually, playing a non D1 team or two IS walking the walk in D1. Many elite D1 teams play non D1 schools. Even college football changed the rules, allowing for 1 win per year versus a FCS school to count toward bowl eligibility.

I don't mind us playing a couple non D1's, especially at this point and where we're at as a program. Let's face it, we needs wins and these are almost sure things.
