  • Last scholarship???

I haven't heard boo about going after anyone w/ the remaining schollie. I think everyone is in agreement that a big man is sorely needed, particularily a juco or transfer big man. Are we going to give it out? Am I missing something? Are they not talking about it b/c they have a transfer in mind that they can't talk about until after his season? Any details?

I think they are waiting to see what happens with the health of Davis.

If true, not a good idea. From what I hear that is like the Cubs relying on Wood and Prior every year. I hope to heck Davis can play, but I wouldn't count on it. Even if he can another big would give us a solid rotation. It's not like we have alot of bigs.

If Davis can't go I think a Juco Big has to be the priority. If they think he can go I have to believe Nate Wolters is still in the mix.

But it may come down to "need" vs "best available". If Davis isn't healthy, then you go with need, but if Davis is healthy you go with "best available" (IMHO). Bigs are very hard to come by, every team year in year out are looking for bigs so their may be a more talented recruit out their who may not be a so called "big".

He was quoted in the St Cloud paper today that he is either going to MSU, SCSU, of Augie. "South Dakota State offered, but I didn't like it that much."

Jacks have two holes to fill: size at point guard and size in the post.

I would be willing to bet that Nagy is quietly, but actively, looking for a big.

              Why?

Because, at this point in time, I don't think Davis is to be relied on as the #1 big--even if healthy. If he were cleared medically to begin practicing right now, the poor guy's lost 9 months of intense practices and apparently per the nature of the illness, it seems a good deal of physical exercise.

Now I'm sure SDSU's trainers had this guy exercising at his limits, but those limits may put him seriously behind the curve.

Next up: What big? I would bet that Nagy could lay his hands on any of a number of JuCo bigs that would come to SDSU with serious baggage, and if that's the case, he and the department are to be commended for keeping an urgent need for the program from impacting institutional reputation.

It will be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure.

Sounds like he's decided he's a D-II player. Hope he has success in the NSIC.

I don't think this Wolters kid was ever interested in SDSU. He has been playing games with us for a while, its time to move on. Let him stay home or let him drive the NISC nuts with his maybe yes and maybe no attitude.

DI wonder if the guys took him out to a beer bash on his visit. He is a very straight laced kid. I don't even think he drinks. Just a guess...

I can't imaging him turning down SDSU to play DII. I sure hope he stays in town!

I can imagine as I dont think he was ever interested. BTW Nagy is pretty straight laced himself. I think our guys would be in deep do-do if they took a perspective recruit out to a beer bash and he found out about it. We are in need of post and inside players and not guards and that might be why he turned it down, as he probably wants to play right away and play often. There was no guarentee of this happening at SDSU.

A true point guard would also be helpful.

Would Wolter be ready to go without OJT? I never seen him play, but most have an adjustment going from high school to D1 college ball, despite all kinds of AAU tourneys, camps and what have you.

Size at point may be an issue next year, but after that I don't really see it being a problem. Next year Carlson (6'5") and White (6'7") come in and either could end up developing into the point guard of the future. I have never seen Carlson play but I have seen his scoring stats, which may warrant him to become a 2 instead of a 1, but if that is the case White could become a 1 instead of his project 3 spot.

I only say this after I watched White play a couple games in this year's state tournament, as I was incredibly impressed with his demeanor on the court, being patient with the ball and getting the ball to the open man when a double came or help defense rotated over to close up a driving lane. I was expecting to see an athletic scorer who took over games with shear ability, but instead I saw an athlete who excelled at all facets of the games and made everyone around him better. He may not be ready to play point guard at the college level in his true freshman year, but I do feel he has the ability to play the position extremely well with some coaching and could be a true mismatch for opposing teams.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

takes on arguably one of the top teams in the country in Hopkins in the 4A Semis. Hopkins has four starters going DI and the fifth point guard Marcus Williams may and should be one we are looking at as he is still looking for a home. http://www.startribune.com/sports/pr...7PQLanchO7DiUr
