    Re: 2011 recruits

Reports are that Washpun committed to Iowa today. Some people in Fargo aren't too happy about this, rumors on message boards and twitter were he was close to verballing to NDSU until Iowa came in. He is a classmate of another Iowa recruit Josh Ogelsby

Jeff Kolpeck the beat writer in Fargo is the one reporting this on his twitter page.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Crayton & Cougill pick up some more offers too once players start deciding on where they are going. I hope the coaches have their plan b,c,d, & e ready.

I have been thinking the same thing.

Good because I can't see this kid going big time to Tennessee at all, even if the Missouri State coach offered and is now at the school.

From the article about him, it seemed like he was going to wait until signing day to make his decision. My assumption is that if Tennessee or Iowa do not get their guys, they may offer Wes to fill a spot. I still assume he'll go to Missouri State if neither offers. I would be very surprised to see him go to NDSU, but he could if he somehow falls to them.

yeah I believe there is currently a dead period. Signing day starts next Wednesday (13th) and last until May 18th. recruits can still be recruited after that day but no LOI is signed.

yeah, its probably worse news for NDSU then us, seemed they were his top choice if UT and Iowa didn't offer

here is an update on Washpun, does not currently mention us. Goes along with what I've heard, he visited NDSU, liked it but with Cully Payne transferring at Iowa and with Tennessee and Missouri State on him my guess is he ends up at one of those schools.

    TV says

Men's basketball recruiting update: Big Brennan Cougill - formerly of Iowa - does have an offer from SDSU and plans on making a visit, according to Kirkwood Community College coach Doug Wagemester. Meanwhile, another juco big with an offer from the Jacks, Jarrell Crayton, will visit Boise State this weekend and then review his options, said Sheridan College coach Steve Smiley.

Yeah, but that's 2 different years so 2 different situations. Look at the SDSU women's team. Yes they played great the past couple of years to win the Summit tourney, but this year they did have to get on a roll to win the tourney. They can announce on ESPN that SDSU has made the tourney 3 straight years, but this year was so different than the previous 2 years.

Every time Brad Stevens has given a interview during the tournament he says there was a turning point during the season where everything started to click for them. Feb. 5th they were 5-5 in Horizon League (haven't lost since then).

They lost to Youngstown St(who won only 2 conference games) on Feb 3 to go to 14-9 overall, 6-5 in the Horizon. At that point i dont think there was any reason to think they would make the tourney unless they won the Horizon tourney. They won their last 7 reg season games, ended up the number 2 seed and then won 2 games in the Horizon tourney. Id say they were on a roll to end the season and have continued to roll. Last year wasnt as much of a shock as this year.

If a recruit was deciding between the Summit and Horizon, couldn't the argument be made that if you go to the Horizon you have little to no chance of making the NCAA tourney. Therefore going to a Summit League team would give you a better chance of making the Big Dance?

Take Brennan Cougill for example. Would he make a big enough difference at Wis-Green Bay to beat Butler. He only has two years of eligibility left and there is a big jump between Green Bay and Butler. I don't think Green Bay with or without Cougill could make up that gap in two years.

But if Cougill did attend SDSU, then we are probably in the top 3 for the next two years in the SL and have a far better chance of making the NCAA tourney than a Green Bay or any other Horizon League team not named Butler.
