Why would you say that? Griffan Callahan is playing well. Clint Sargent and Garrett Callahan contributed right away. From what I've heard here, from knowledgeable people like Cadsev, those two guys will be as ready to contribute as anybody we've had here.

The AD is retiring. Dr. Oien knows that it's not his decision to fire a coach on his way out. The new AD won't be on campus until late summer and is just not going to fire any coaches as his or her first decision. It's not going to happen. Coach Nagy is not going anywhere this year or next, at least. The quicker you wrap your mind around that the better. Thats reality. I would add that in my opinion (and I'm the first to admit that my opinion really is irrelevant in these matters) Coach Nagy has earned the right to see this through with his best recruiting class coming in. The guy has won a lot of games for us.
    Holy nutmeg!

In my rage I did forget about Sarge, he is talented and Griffin might be. As far as I know we only have two signees for next year. Am I wrong?

I'm not defending Nagy but what the heck can he do. He aint the ones on the court doing the rebounding, the shooting, the passing. He can do all the yelling, praising, motivating, and whatever else he has to do but its the players that have to put it to use. If they can't do it then what is he to do. Local talent is not the answer, they are going to have to go out and recruit talent from other states, regions, and jucos. Thats for next year and the next. Right now it is up to the players that are there to man up and stop the bleeding. Hopefully this game is the last straw and they get angry and play like they are supposed too.

Either way, things look as bleak as they are now. BTW, the mother of one of the players told me don't count on ever seeing Davis play here.

The problem with Nagy is his personality. He drives off players like Caddy and Steve. There is also no excuse for not having another big man in camp this fall.

When will he quit making excuses for himself and step up and be accountable? He always seems to say that the players have to do this.

As far as I see it, the decision whether Nagy stays or goes is Nagy's. He might decide he's had enough and can't do anything more with this group and move on.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments except for the talent thing. NDSU has an entire roster of players from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa. There's one kid from Missouri on that roster. And they're picked to win the conference. I don't see any reason why we can't recruit regionally and compete in the Summit League.

I agree with JJ on the point of being able to win with primarily "local" talent. We are right next door to one of the top 2 or 3 JC conferences in the country and you're telling me we can't attract ANY talent from there????????

Holdren left because he wanted to play in his hometown for the team he had rooted for all his life. Cadwell, by the end, had total contempt for Nagy (you could see it). He was frustrated because he couldn't get shots because teams were keying on him. I hope he found what he wanted at Concordia. I would note he didn't exactly set the world on fire up there. Generally speaking, who needs some kid on the roster who thinks he knows better than the coach?

Nagy's a tough guy. He expects a lot out of his players, including mental toughness. Some kids aren't up to it. Some are. When he gets a roster full of kids who are mentally tough enough (I think we're close) they're going to compete very well night-in and night-out.

I agree. This debacle is on the players. I don't care who the coach is,there was nothing he could do in a game like this.

I cant get over how mad I am. I told myself I wouldnt let it get to me. My opinion is obviously formed and I make no apologies for it. For what its worth I do want to thank other posters for their thoughts.

You've got every right to your opinions. This discussion isn't hurting anybody. None of us is going to make the decision about Coach Nagy's future. You'd like a change. Having watched Coach Nagy for 14 years, I want him to have the chance to fix this. And I would note that he has already made a good many adjustments in how he coaches and recruits. I think tonight was a debacle but it's not indicative of the overall direction of the program.

Agreed, Pierre had two excellent big men coming in back-to-back years, both recruited by SDSU but chose to go elsewhere, Michael Tveidt and Sam Willard. According to Willards parents, if Michael had chosen SDSU over NDSU Sam would have followed. I think we just missed out on some of the better recruits in the state the last couple of years, but I think its starting to change with getting White and Fiegen.

I don't know how long you've been a Jacks fan, but I've been one for a long...LONG...time. I have NEVER been embarrassed by a coach here. If I'm not a Nagy fan, then so be it. He WAS an incredible DII coach. I'm just tired of the continuous excuses about DI and OUR PLAYERS not playing up to their ability. We've got GREAT players who deserve better coaching...bring on Margenthaler or Miller or somebody who can bring out the best in these players and bring in better ones. You don't like my posts...move on

I hope my criticism of Coach Nagy isn't seen as bashing him. I simply stated that he is the constant and that the blame for the inconsistency of his teams can only rightfully be placed on him. Does that make him a bad coach, heck no. I think he probably has a greater fund of basketball knowledge than 90% of the guys coaching today.

However, Scott has said it himself multiple times the last several years. He can't seem to get through to these guys and get them to play the way he knows they can. Am I to assume that the problem is with a series of players over several years? I'm not that big of a fool and I don't think others here are either. This is Nagy's program, he gets the credit, he gets the blame, he should be the one expected to fix it. No bashing here, just concern about the ongoing inconsistency of what should be a solid (not great mind you) teams that competes every minute of EVERY game. We haven't seen that in 5 years.
