    Re: Jackrabbits add point guard

This guy is a very welcome addition. He sounds like he relishes the challenge of playing D-1. Great. ... Now, get him a couple of big team mates.

and by big we mean over 6'10" and 250 pounds the guy from canada sounds like a stud from conversations i've had with various sources. 6'7" isn't big but if cam has played with him, he must be a favorite target of cam's.

This kid seems like a winner.  It is good to get some good news.  I wonder if he will play this year or redshirt?  He does look a little thin, maybe a year to fill out might do him some good.  Either way, this is a good signing.

From the story from earlier in the thread:

          http://mywebtimes.com/ottnews/archiv...&id=259296

Nagy has high hopes for his newest recruit.

"We expect him to play right away and compete for a starting position," Nagy said. "He's used to winning, and it's very important to me to have a guy that knows how to win. I expect as he grows and gets used to the college game, he'll become a great leader for us."

Looks like he will play right away, or at least have every chance to.

Any know the name of the Canadian player or does anyone know where he is from?  I tried to find some info, but did not have any luck.

And if the new recruit has a chance to start at point, where does that put Cam?

              Re: Jackrabbits add point guard

I would guess that we are looking at a three guard offense as things stand right now.  That and the one thing I have learned these past two seasons is you can't have too many quality guards at the D-I level.  Fresh legs are better. I am sure Cam will get plenty of PT and who knows, Cadwell might like to sit down every now and then.

From his high-light clips from his web site, Cam can shoot the outside shot too. Maybe that puts him at the 2 and Matt at the 3. We might be playing small ball with one big guy in the middle. That would put a lot of pressure on who would have to guard the power forward for the other team. Need Mike to work of foot speed so he isn't leaning on his player as much. Have to wait and see.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

The recruit from Canada will be in Brookings on the 12th or 13th for his visit. A little different because everyone will be gone, but all the players will still be around for workouts. From what I've heard, he's a small town kid and hopefully he would find Brookings a good place to be at. It wouldn't be all that unreasonable for us not to hear anything til June either because Canadian schools don't get over until late June. I really hope they sign him right away and no other schools find out about this kid.

                    Re: Jackrabbits add point guard

I've been told all along that Cam is more of a 2 guard than point. In fact, I think I mentioned that at one point on here. The description I heard about the new point guard coming in is "really bouncy, the athletic point everyone wants on their team". Also, the kid from Canada is supposed to be a real athlete. He'll need to work on transitioning to the intensity of ball in the states, but he could be special.

I'm not sure how we have the lineup to run anything other than a 3 guard offense. We don't have any SFs on the roster with Holdren and Beran leaving as well as Berte and Gilbert's situation so up in the air. Without any of those four players, we're left with a bunch of 6'4" or under guys (mainly under) to match up with an undersized (but crazy hard working) Loney and the 2 young and skinny freshmen. On the plus side, I love watching team's employ a 3 guard offense. Lot's of quick, hard working guys on the floor always trying to out work the bigger team.

Last year didn't we out rebound Nebraska, and they went 6'9", 6'10" and 6'11". we countered with 6'7", 6'8" and 6'3". One thing about Nagy coached teams, they will work their butts off on the boards.

On Coach Nagy's teams if you don't rebound, you don't play. I like that.

                          Re: Jackrabbits add point guard

I really like the idea of a kid who knows how to win (35-0) starting his first year and leading this team from the start. It's likely he won't be the emotional leader the first year, but a needed on the court leader.

I don't know if he is the quickest or the strongest, but there is always something to be said of a guy just being a winner. Sounds like a kid that will fit in well at the school and should be around for four or five years.

Callahan was also considering Lewis University and Eastern Illinois University.

I said it on another post and I'll say it again. The beauty and beast of Men's B-ball is that it only takes a couple of studs to completely turn things around! Not saying this kid is the stud but saying we need to keep the faith that things can and will turn around!
