Middle Tennessee State's schedule is out, they say they're playing at Frost Jan. 29th. Late January-early February looks like a nice little home stand for the Rabbits. (Credit to my lovely wife for discovering the MTSU schedule was out)

        Re: '06-'07 schedule

It may have already been mentioned on here, but do we know the other teams in the BCA tourney? I remember hearing Ohio State, SDSU, and does anyone know the others?

Looks like a lot of road games in December and February, but January we are only on the road once....

I see Wilbur left. Where did he end up?

I searched the new coach, and his head coach had alot of good to say about him.

This is from a cached website of Buena Vista's from last year:

"Klinkefus is a 2000 Buena Vista University graduate and is entering his fourth season as an assistant in men’s basketball. He was a four-year letterwinner and starter for coach Joe Hadachek in football at Buena Vista University.

Coach Van Haaften says: “Rob Klinkefus is easily the best coach not only on our staff, but on the whole athletic staff at BVU. He is a wonderful recruiter and has a great rapport with our players. He is the reason for our excellent post play over the years, and he does a great job i individual workouts. Rob will be a head coach at the college level or an assistant at a Division I or Division II school very soon, and without a doubt will do a great job. He is a 'can't miss' and any school who overlooks him will be making a big mistake.""

          Re: '06-'07 schedule

I spoke to Matt at the amatuer baseball tournament in Mitchell and I believe he and a friend (maybe Tibbets, I can't remember) are planning to launch an athlete conditioning/training program and facility in Sioux Falls. I may have misunderstood exactly what he has planned and if so I apologize. He did think SDSU would be much improved and felt that the new recruits would fit the Nagy mold much better than some of our recent players.

Matt is currently teaching at Roosevelt in Sioux Falls. He and Tibbets are trying to get the individual basketball instruction business going. They were all set up but ended up with a problem with availability of the gym they were trying to use. They're currently looking for an alternate gym. He's pretty optimistic about the upcoming season for the Jacks. As I've said before, he really likes the kid from Canada.

              http://www3.sdstate.edu/athletics/va...dule/index.cfm

              SDSU men's basketball slate completed
Twelve home games and four road games at 2006 NCAA Tournament qualifiers are part of the 2006-07 South Dakota State University men’s basketball schedule.

After hosting exhibition games Oct. 31 against Southwest Minnesota State and Nov. 5 with Dakota State, the Jackrabbits, 9-20 a year ago, are slated to open the regular season Nov. 10-12 with three games at the 2006 SportsTime Ohio BCA Classic in Columbus, Ohio. SDSU will meet NCAA Tournament qualifier Kent State (Ohio) in the first round, followed by a matchup with either Alabama A&M or future Mid-Continent Conference opponent IUPUI in the second round. The other half of the tournament bracket features host Ohio State, Virginia Military Institute, Loyola (Ill.) and Princeton.

The Jackrabbits, coached by Scott Nagy, mark their Frost Arena regular season debut Nov. 16, hosting Idaho. Later in the month SDSU will host Arkansas State and Utah State.

Back on the road, the Jackrabbits will sandwich a series around Thanksgiving at NCAA qualifiers Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Nov. 22 and Northern Iowa on Nov. 24. SDSU also will travel to NCAA qualifier Montana on Dec. 10.

The lone home game in December is set for Dec. 22 versus Montana State, while January home games include a Jan. 6 matchup with Central Florida and a Jan. 29 game with Middle Tennessee State. SDSU also will play a home-and-home series with Cal State Northridge, making the trip to California Jan. 21 before hosting the Matadors Feb. 20.

SDSU will fill most of its schedule the final six weeks of the season as part of the United Basketball Conference scheduling alliance with fellow Division I Independents. The Jackrabbits will play a double round-robin schedule against IPFW, New Jersey Tech, North Dakota State, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley State. SDSU, IPFW and North Dakota State all will join the Mid-Continent Conference during the 2007-08 school year.

Season tickets, which cover home games for both the Jackrabbit men’s and women’s basketball teams, are now available, although seats will not be allocated until after the Oct. 6 renewal deadline. Single-game tickets go on sale Oct. 23. For more information, contact the Jackrabbit Ticket Office at 1-866-GO JACKS.

                Re: '06-'07 schedule

That looks like a good schedule. I'm sure Nagy is glad that is the last schedule he has to work on a an independent. I also like having UNI on the schedule. The Mo Valley had a really high RPI last year and I was afraid that they would shy away from the Jacks because we can hurt their RPI by playing them. All in all I'm looking forward to this season, although it looks like I can't make any of the games. I will be at the women's game at UC Davis.

Still a salty schedule, but a bit more favorable especially with the late UBC games.

Do we see 10 wins on the season? I don't know, that's a total guess. It's not even a prediction. With so many guys gone, I can't imagine what to expect. Any thoughts? What games can we expect will be good ones? Maybe I can work in a trip to Brook Vegas.

                          Re: '06-'07 schedule

Somewhere between 10 and 15 wins is how my early brute-force projections are coming out. This assumes we'll be a bit better team than last year both on offense and on defense, and assumes that our opponents are pretty much unchanged from the Sagarin ratings at the end of last year (with some randomizing). (I'm using an Excel spreadsheet for my little computer model, in case you're wondering. Ah, the magic of the RAND() function!)

Here's one of the 15-15 runs (i.e. a good year):
Kent State @ BCA - Loss
                          Alabama A&M @ BCA - Win
                          Princeton @ BCA - Loss
                          Idaho - Win
                          @ Wisconsin-Milwaukee - Loss
                          @ Northern Iowa - Loss
                          Arkansas State - Win
                          Utah State - Loss
                          @ Denver - Win
                          @ Minnesota - Loss
                          @ Montana - Loss
                          @ Wisconsin-Green Bay - Win
                          @ UMKC - Loss
                          Montana State - Win
                          @ Idaho - Loss
                          Central Florida - Loss
                          @ Butler - Loss
                          @ CSU Northridge - Win
                          Utah Valley State - Win
                          Texas-Pan American - Win

                          Middle Tennessee State - Loss
                          North Dakota State - Win
@ New Jersey Tech - Win
                          @ IPFW - Win
                          @ Texas-Pan American - Win

@ Utah Valley State - Loss
                          CSU Northridge - Win
@ North Dakota State - Loss
                          IPFW - Loss
                          New Jersey Tech - Win

I could put up a 10-20 scenario, too, but it would be too depressing.

In a dream season, you could turn the home losses in the above projection vs. Central Florida, Middle Tennessee, and IPFW into wins, and steal maybe the games at Idaho and at UMKC to envision a 20-win season. But, most of the runs I make come out with us finishing 12-18.

I'm hoping that we'll be significantly better on offense than I'm projecting in my little Excel model. We'll need to find another consistent offensive threat to take the pressure off of Cadwell. We'll need the freshmen centers to get pretty good, really fast, and we'll need another one or two outside shooters to emerge to make progress over last year. On defense, we'll need to figure out how to shut down the 3-point shot.

A .500 season is a high but achievable goal this year. One key will be to make it through the killer month of December without getting too down. 6 or more wins by New Year's Day will be a good sign for the rest of the season. In theory the schedule gets easier once we get into UBC play.

UW Milwaukee will be a completely different team than the one that played the Jacks the last 2 seasons. They lose their starting 5 and first 2 or 3 off their bench. They were extremely senior heavy last year and it showed. This year, we will actually have much more experience than they do. That's saying something. I know I'll be there with the handful of players' parents that make the trip.

UWM will definetly be looking to reload and one person they are hoping to step up and play a pivotal role is Paige Paulsen (former Custer High School standout)  http://uwmpanthers.cstv.com/sports/m...n_paige00.html

I've been hearing a lot about the UWM Panthers on the local radio stations and in the Journal Sentinal. After all that, I think that the Jackrabbits should have a great chance against the Panthers, they just have to get over their recent Milwaukee losing streak, thankfully UWM is not Marquette. If they can do that, then I see it as a winable game for the Jacks.
