No pb, I was not there. Im stuck up in beautiful Fargo with the volleyball team. I got back to the hotel from lunch in time to catch the end of the game. From what I heard it can only go up from here.

Kent State hammers SDSU 105-50 at BCA Classic

        By The Associated Press
        PUBLISHED: November 10, 2006

Mike Scott and Armon Gates each scored 16 points and Kent State shot 63 percent from the field to beat South Dakota State 105-50 Friday in the first round of the BCA Classic at Ohio State’s Value City Arena.

Rodriguez Sherman had 15 and Haminn Quaintance, Chris Singletary and Julian Sullinger added 10 apiece for the Golden Flashes (1-0).

They shot 61 percent in the opening half to build a 48-19 lead. Holding a 12-8 lead at the 13:15 mark, Kent State pulled away with a 20-4 run to go up 32-12 by the 7-minute mark.

Andy Kleinjan led the Jackrabbits (0-1) with 16 points, with Kai Williams adding 14. They had 24 turnovers, were outrebounded 38-23 and shot 38 percent from the field.

The Golden Flashes are coming off a 25-9 season in which they won Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the program’s fourth NCAA tournament.  .  .  .  (read more)

            Re: Kent State

I just got to my hotel room in Cedar City after a quick auto tour of the Southern Utah campus and a quick peek into their basketball arena (I snapped some pictures which will make it onto the sdsufans.com blog soon, I hope).

All I can say about the Kent State game is:
1: Ouch--momma told me there'd be days like this.
            2: Bring on Alabama A&M!
            3: Go Rabbits!!!

Well, if you're going to get blown out by 50, at least it wasn't by Southwest State. :-/ Wow. Ironic that defending champs Illinois last year was a competitive game, and listening to this one on the radio, it never was. Tomorrow will be better.

                Re: Kent State

Due to the State Holiday on Friday I was excited to be able to listen to the Jacks game and do a little road hunting at the same time. What a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. Well, after listening to the game and being skunked on the hunt, I was about as dissapointed as somebody could be for having a Friday off from work. I couldn't even take out my frustration on one of our state's finest ringnecks, or a squirrel, muskrat, stray cat, etc. I didn't see anything in range.

Maybe if we would have remembered to get our Defense on the plane when the team left Sioux Falls we would have stood a chance, hopefully it can catch a flight tonight for the game tomorrow against A&M. I think our boys thought they were playing half court ball seeing all the easy buckets Kent got in transition. We might want to check Cadwell's i.d. as well...it sure didn't sound like him this afternoon.

Not much more to add, except as others have said "Tommorow is another Day".  Whatever our youngsters could learn from this game will be of value down the road.

                    Re: Kent State

All I can say is WOW. I saw your score come up on ESPN, and it didn't look good every time it updated. Sorry to say, but even though Kent State is a solid mid-major, you should never lose to a team by 50+ points, especially another Mid-Major (we've lost to Duke by 25-30, worst defeat the last few years). Hopefully you guys improve over the rest of the season, leading into the Mid-Con.

It looks like another long, cold winter in Jackland. But the team will be ready for the Mid-Con.

Embarassing is the only word to describe this loss.

With that said, bring on Alabama A&M!

Again, don't take the Mid-Con lightly.  Every team (maybe even Centenary) would have played Kent State to within 20-25 points (several teams would have beat or played to within 5-10 points).  There will need to be some major improvement over the next few seasons in order to compete for that NCAA bid!  As proof, SUU just beat Utah, and ORU almost beat a solid Loyola Marymount team.

Try not to let that 55 point loss reflect on what SDSU can be at the DI level. Thas was the worse loss (by margin of victory) since 1944. Hence, new low in my mind. Defend the loss however you would like, fact is we got drilled big time and I never expected that to happen to SDSU before this year.

Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that no one seems too overly shocked about a 50 point margin. I would have been shocked when we were D2 if we lost by that margin. When I was a Sophomore, we very nearly knocked off a top 5 Kansas squad with Danny Manning. If I'm not mistaken, we played Big 10 Minn to withn ten points in the 80's too. I hope like crazy yesterday's game was a fluke, otherwise it's going to be a long agonizing year...again.

I don't think it was that much of a fluke.  Kent St. was 50 points better than us yesterday.  Its shocking to say the least but its reality.  The sooner people recognize that the better.

Now, does that mean Kent St. is 50 points better than us every day?  Of course not.  Just like UW-L isn't better than our FB team.  Yesterdays game should serve as a wake up call for anyone who thinks this team has a shot at .500.  Right now they don't.

They will get better (they have to).  They will compete each game (Nagy will make sure of that).  Unfortunately (or maybe not) that won't result in many W's this year.  Its just the way its going to have to be this year.

I had hoped by this season that we would have a couple of "seasoned" DI players to lead a bunch of talented underclassmen into some decent DI arenas to compete.  We are not there yet.  Thats that and thats it.

A 55 point loss is shocking, I agree with you there.
