    Team preview: Kent State

    COACH AND PROGRAM
A year ago, the so-called experts picked Kent State to finish in the middle of the pack in the MAC East Division, despite seven straight 20-win seasons and a nucleus of four established seniors. Well, so much for preseason polls.
The Golden Flashes capped 2005-06 with a sweep of the MAC regular season and tournament championships and finished 25-9. The last four of eight straight seasons or 20 or more wins at Kent has come under Jim Christian's watch. The 2006 MAC Coach of the Year was rewarded with an extension through 2012-13. . . . 2006-07 Men's Basketball Preview

For the second time in his career as head coach of the Kent State University men’s basketball program Jim Christian is faced with the task of replacing the loss of four seniors who were catalysts for a championship season the year before.

But despite the loss of those four key seniors from last year’s Mid-American Conference championship team that made the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002, there is plenty of talent remaining as well as a strong level of veteran leadership on the 2006-07 squad aimed at accomplishing Kent State’s yearly goal: win a MAC championship, win 20 or more games and reach the postseason.

Six letter-winners from a year ago and a solid group of eager newcomers have their sites set on a ninth straight 20-win season and a ninth consecutive trip to the postseason as the Golden Flashes defend their MAC regular season and tournament titles from last year, just the second time Kent State won both the MAC regular season and tournament championships in the same campaign. . . . Kent State University

I spent a little time on Kent State University’s web site.  It is a nice site with a lot of information about each player on their teams

      http://www.kentstatesports.com/

The forum board for Kent State is pretty active and you can read some pretty good information.

      http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/ph...wforum.php?f=5

It is not organized into sports/categories like ours so you have to spend a little time looking for what you want to read.

They are concerned about their inside play just as we are.  They are also concerned about their less than dominating win over a D-2 team with a losing record a year ago.  It appears that the rabbits aren't the only ones a little slow coming out of the exhibition season and into the regular season.  The fans are impressed with their team depth and feel that they may have the most athletic team they have ever had.

        KSU preview story:

        http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/385595

KSU primed for BCA Classic Flashes at full strength for season-opening tournament

        Tom Hardesty

The return of Isaac Knight and prized-recruit Chris Singletary from preseason injuries means Kent State will open the 2006-07 men's basketball season this weekend with its roster at full strength.

Knight and Singletary received medical clearance to play this week. Both will be in uniform Friday afternoon when the Golden Flashes face South Dakota State in the first game of the BCA Classic at Ohio State University's Value City Arena.

"Everybody practiced (Monday) for the first time all season," said KSU head coach Jim Christian. "Obviously, it's a good thing for us to have everyone healthy."

Just how healthy Knight and Singletary will be, however, is still in question. Knight, returning from shoulder surgery, did not participate in a single practice prior to KSU's only exhibition game Nov. 4 against Northwood. Singletary practiced, but with a soft cast protecting torn ligaments in his left hand. Neither player was in uniform during the Flashes' 83-65 exhibition win.

"Any time a guy comes back from injury, you worry a little," said Christian. "You don't want to bring somebody back too soon. But once they get medical clearance, that means they are ready to play. We'll put them out there and see how they do. . . . (read more)

Today's the day to find out what the Jacks can do in a game that "counts".

            2pm

Hoping for a strong showing, a win would be great, but a solid game to build on would also be huge.
