I know it wasnt a close game but Kent St. is a very good team and they have the talent to maybe get them to the 64 tournament..I know they got there a few years ago...I think this is a learning game not only for out freshman but for all our players....Commiting as many turnovers as they did will not win games...Plus another key to this game was Cadwell only had 2 POINTS!!! The good point I'm going to make about this game is IT CAN ONLY GO UP FROM HERE!!!! HA
TL and Loney on postgame. Paraphrasing, obviously.
Loney sounded down, team was tight. Need to play better D.
TL kept hitting on Turnovers. 24 is not a good number. KSU is more athletic. Whole team played tight, everything gets harder when you play tight. Callahan will help get Caddy better shots. Good to have Kleinjan contributing. Been waiting for that. Glad to be playing tomorrow right away. Playing a young team like ourselves, hopefully we put up better showing.

This team will get better. First game that counts, everybody was tight according to postgame. We sounded just over matched today. We need to cut down on TO's, hopefully Callahan can help w that. Williams is going to be big time before he is done. This will be an exciting team to watch in the next 2-3 years.
We need to keep our heads up and keep working hard. These young guys have a lot of learning to do, but we have a lot of season left to do it. Coach Nagy said in the pregame that the goals for this team are to be playing good basketball by Xmas, and by the end of the season wish it wasn't over. We'll get there.

New lows to say the least. We now have to "hope for a better showing" than a 55 point blowout. I think any predictions about this years record are foolish. We have no idea what this team is going to become but to expect any wins against DI teams is a bit unrealistic given what we have seen thus far. I'm not giving up or scolding anyone just asking for a realistic view of where we are right now.
Of course, I reacted in a similar fashion to the loss against UW-L and that made me look foolish, thankfully. Maybe the same approach with the BB team will work, too.
One day at a time. I predict we play a basketball game tomorrow and that we win or lose. No ties.

This is most certainly not a new low. I think the low point would have been the blow out loss to SW, at Frost. I would take 10 more beatings like this to have that game wiped from my memory. Kent State is a solid ball club, 25-9 last season. SW is a mediocre D-II school. I don't even think theres a comparison.
It wasn't too long ago that we were beating teams in D-II by scores like this (Northern and Winona) when they had young teams and we had a veteran team. Now the shoes on the other foot, and we're the young team. We are going to take some bad losses like this during the season, and I promise we will have a couple surprising wins, just like with any talented but extremely young team. The key is that the whole team returns next season, not what happens this season.

I agree I'm just not mature enough to swallow a loss like this without first whining about it. This forum gives me a chance to do just that. My only solid point is just as yours, this team will be so unpredictable because of its inexperience that making any comment about expected wins is ridiculous in my mind.
As for the future, we need these players to be wholey committed to the program so that we don't need to rebuild again and again and again and again.....

Bluehatman, you were at the game? I didn't see any SDSU fans that were younger than myself, or anybody in a blue hat.
I just graduated from SDSU last year, and I came to Ohio State for grad school. I was pretty excited to see that SDSU would be playing some games in Columbus this year. I wanted to go to all of them, but I can't afford it.
For my description of the game, I'll try to say more than "ouch." Obviously, things didn't go that well. The part that I was the most disgusted about were the times when it really looked like some of our guys were giving up. I know it sucks losing, but at least keep trying. Everytime we did take a timeout, it seemed to help get us calmed down, I wish Nagy would use a few more timeouts when things are starting to look bad. With all the TV timeouts, it’s not like we can’t afford to use some of them early before the game gets blown open.
I was really happy with the way they came back out for the second half. The first eight minutes of the second half were really good basketball. I don't know exactly what the stats were like during that period, but it seemed like we were cutting down the deficit a little. We even forced them to take a quick time out. There were also some really bad parts of the game, like the last five minutes of the first half.
Actually, the first 15 minutes of the game, would have been pretty even if we could have hit our open shots and gotten back on defense for a few of their quick and easy baskets/dunks. Before Kent State went on a big run at the end of the first half, I was thinking to myself that our defense wasn't all that bad. We also only had about 15 points at that time and I was also thinking, our offense isn't very good yet.
If some of these other guys get going on offense (Williams, Kleinjan, Basset, Loney) and can consistently put in 10-15 points a game, that will free up Cadwell some so he can actually play. They had him covered the entire game.
Overall, Kent State was just so fast, I don't know that our guys were ready for that.
Wish I could be there tomorrow, it sucks sitting at home, four miles from the game and having to listen to it on the (internet) radio. If anybody has $15 to donate to a poor grad student for a ticket, I promise to give a detailed description of how the game went…..and maybe do a little heckling.
