    Re: Bassett

BBB- You make some interesting points.
I haven't talked to any of the departed players but I'd like to think they left for other reasons.
    1) Move closer to home.
    2) Problems with the school/community.
    3) Wanted to be a standout player not an average one.
    4) In over his head.
I could be wrong on all of them but I think a few of these are legit excuses. I hope it's not just because we were losing.

"a fairly large margin"- I think last year, we were in most of the games. We had 21 loses. 15 were by 10 points or less. Seven of them were by less than 5 points or in O.T.
I know a loss is a loss but I think we were in most of the games last year.
There were more than just those 6 bad loses. We lost to a few teams that we shouldn't have but there were some bright spots last year, too.

Actually, it's not. Filbert owns and operates this board; but, that's getting technical.

BBB: With your ability to see into the future concerning Krogman and Schilling, it is too bad you did not share that gift with the coaching staff the past few years. We would no doubt be way ahead of where we are now when it comes to our roster!

What makes people think this recruiting class will make us any better than last year? We lose our two best posts who were seniors and replace them with a JC big man (who I do like) and a 6'7 HS post. We are not going to be as good in the post. We should be better on the perimeter as our young guys develop, but other than Kai and Garrett they have a long ways to go. So how are we going to miracuously going to be better?

It is hard to argue how we are going to be better as I agree we are not going to be as good in the post. I had hoped we could sign a strong athletic power forward similiar to what NDSU signed.

Not to go high brow on you, but if anyone has read any Oscar Wilde, many threads like this one always remind me of an Oscar Wilde short story. "The Remarkable Rocket" always comes to mind. Not sure if anyone wanted an English Lit reference on a Friday morning, but the tenor of this thread compelled me to make one. If you haven't read it, look it up on the net. Once you read it, you'll get my reference.

I was thinking the same thing. No, really, I was.

OK, I wasn't. I just was wondering if the Pride was playing somewhere today, but didn't want to admit it.

Cliff Notes anyone? My attention deficit problems won't let me get through the whole thing.

Prince & Princess get married; very much in love & are much loved.

Rocket is part of the fireworks and basically believes they got married to honor him (the rocket). The Rocket is the master of the backdoor compliment, if you saw 30 Rock last night. Everyone else is so pathetic and just doesn't understand.

Rocket ends up crying when he thinks how wonderful he is and ends up not being able to fire at the appropriate time. No considered junk, he is thrown away.

Really should take the time to read it all, it is great.

After reading the article it makes it seem like it was Bassetts choice to leave which really upsets me. If a coach dismisses a player from the team for personal reasons i would hope he would be willing to say that to the media. It was not about thomas's play but more so about the differnces in views on certain coaching decisions

No sense throwing him under the bus on the way out. I don't know that it really matters whose decision it was that he left.

Thanks. I read most of it and this confirms what I was reading. So I guess I and others have tended to play that Rocket role on a few occasions and yep its a good analogy. What we think is so correct and so imporant can often turn out to be grossily misinformed garbage opinions.

I cant say I have read any of Oscar Wilde and maybe I should, but I am aware of his literary fame. Thats not to say we should be intimidated on this message board and not express what we think if we follow the moderators rules in doing so.

Coaches do have to make some very hard choices some times and I agree with eqguy and believe its time to close the book on Mr. Bassett and not worry about who is making the choice. As I saidin the first post, I repeat my bests wishes and good luck in his future no matter where it may be.
