      Re: Onward and upward

I don't think this is news that Coach Nagy or the SDSU athletic department are going to make an announcement over.

It is a done deal, that I think as far as Coach Nagy and the player are concerned is over with although the player is not officially released yet (This will not be an issue).

More than likely it will be something the Argus will write up once they get wind of and ask a coach directly.

As far as Coach Nagy goes. I think it would be a grave mistake to let him go. I think we have a lot of players here that would say, "Coach goes, I go." Sorry, shameless Hoosiers plug.

I heard Ben won't be back next year. I also heard Mo and Michael also won't be back. I heard that news was from a reliable source. :-)
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

            I refuse to believe it.

Now, that is funny. I admit as others have that Joeboo is making good sense...worked in a little bit of the 'talked to the junior-high coach back home' but made sense.

                Re: Onward and upward

First, Coach Nagy ought to stay. We should hope he stays. SDSU would be up a bigger creek without him. Chasing him out because of transitional difficulties would make no sense. Should fans demand and expect substantial improvements in the team over the next season or two? Absolutely.
Second, the Jacks probably will be better off without the guy that some of us suspect (but don't know) is leaving. Addition through subtraction. Maybe the scholarship can be used for another big guy or a shooter. Either option would improve the team.
Third, this team has D-1 talent. Williams. Moss. Cordova. Callahan. Sargent. Palarca. Maybe others. Some of these guys have just had to play sooner and more often than would have been ideal. Hopefully the experience will pay off for the team and its fans in the next season or two. Keep the faith.

We are not in a position where we can just go out and replace them. I humbly suggest, it is time for a coaching change.
I have been a critic of Coach Nagy in the past, but more so of an assistant who has since left us, but I don't think we need to make a coaching change. Not right now. We dont have a clean break like our neighbors to the north in their women's bb program and that is why for certain we will not be making a coaching change. A program is developing and I think the administration has the wisdom to sort that out and stand fast for the time being.

If its the player I think that's leaving, it might just be a mutual decision. Most of these guys are a few years away from age 25, and I dont know that many people who had both feet on the ground at age 25. There is always those thoughts about " I cant hake it" or the grass is greener over there and on and on. The beauty of getting older is you start being able to see the big picture and the ability to see the long term affect of things.

Most of the guys appear to be mature and able to sort out things, but this may not always be the case. Our mens bb program is an undergraduate college program. It is not the NBA nor the NFL where people are earning millions and the fan can be critical anyway they want to without be called out. Here its different. Most of the guys on team right now will be working at various occupations just like everyone else in 3 to 5 years. So give them a break and give the coach a break. Unless you were betting the ranch on SDSU games, its no reason to call for heads or berate student athletes.

I hope the guys, if they're aware of the board at all, know it's filled with folks like me who really have no idea what we're talking about, but love talking Jackrabbit hoops anyway, and are rooting for them on and off the court. We say some pretty stupid things sometimes (I know I do) but really we just want to see the guys succeed, have fun, and have a positive experience at SDSU.

Some of our young talent will improve, but we are not bringing in players (especially in the post) that makes me think we will get better. If we can only win 8 games with Ben and Mo, how are we going to win more replacing them with a JC (talented granted) and a true freshmen?
What makes you think we are not bringing in players that will make us better? Mo was hurt the last few games. I think if he played against Centenary, we win the game. If Davis is 6'10", he may actually give us a post presence. I'm not talking bad against Ben and Michael but they are 5 inches shorter and (probably) not as athletic. That's the thing that Mo had. He could jump where Ben and Michael had to play the position game. Whatever works use it.
Engen even likes the outside shot. Cordova, Mo, Loney and Bassett were the post players for this team.
Radar is a true freshman but what about Cassaday? He has some height and Nagy thought he'd be good this year. That's another redshirt freshman that has height. So you are bringing in 6'10", 6'7" and 6'6". I know that they are younger and have some to learn but they are taller.
Cassaday might be a lot like Ben. Ben was a great jump shooter for the center position.
Casey might have been our best point guard this year. He will be back next year, too.
You give everybody that played this year, the experience they got this year. Bring in a big physical post that can score down low and your starting point guard(maybe). That right there should make you a better team.
Have you seen Davis, Cassaday, Radar or Griffin play. I would think that those 4 guys plus Casey might be able to replace the seniors. If those 5 can't do it, how about having the other players in the system for over a year(or 2) not just a few months.

I hate to see anyone leave, but it does provide an opportunity to add another player who might be able to contribute. I still think we are lacking another big, strong, athletic 6'8 power forward. Of course so are many other teams.

Who's leaving? I asked Kai but his lips were sealed.

If a teammate does not want to give out that information, I don't think it's ethical for someone on this board to do so.
