My first clue? When we first decided to go D1. and secondly when we were accepted into the Summit last August. I knew that we would run into better players and coaches that are much better than what we were used to in the NCC. So much for the NCC superiority stuff, I knew it would not carry us very far and it has not. I think Nagy has found his match in opposing coaches in the Summit and to me thats one of the biggest clues and I can't say it was the first, but we got a lot of work to be done before we host the Summit Touney down the road. If we are ninth or tenth in the final standings I believe we stay home. That would be a shame. I dont mean to be disrespectful, but thats my gut feeling. Its not a knock against you 1bunnies, but some seem to think that the Summit League would be a cake walk. We are finding out its not and the last thing I want to do is point a blame finger in any direction. We have a challenge ahead of us, plain and simple. I fear I am venting, but first we got all worked up about the refs and now that seems not to be the problem, but what we are facing this year in my opinion is better coached competition and I should not dish someone who is in agreement with me. My apologies.

        Terry's Article on the game:

SDSU men halt 3-game losing skid
Jacks surpass last season's win total
        By Terry Vandrovec
        tvandrovec@argusleader.com
        PUBLISHED: January 20, 2008

BROOKINGS - Maybe it was the size of the crowd, the largest to see South Dakota State play at Frost Arena against somebody other than North Dakota State in the program's brief NCAA Division I history.

Or maybe it was the disappointment of losing three in a row, two by blowout and one by two baskets, the team's ninth single-digit defeat of the season.

Whatever the motivation, the Jackrabbits played with a different level of intensity - it's called desperation - in Saturday's 66-62 victory against Southern Utah. Winning still didn't come easy, as few things do for clubs that start two freshmen and two sophomores, but it did come, as SDSU surpassed last season's paltry total before a crowd of 3,733 in Summit League play.
Afterward, although pleased, Jacks coach Scott Nagy didn't so much laud the team for its effort as question what took so long.

"Why would it take to get embarrassed at home to have desperation?" he asked. "If you're 18-0 you should have desperation, you just should. But that's hard to do. We're still super young."

Wins a win isn't it? Looks like we compain if they lose and complain if they win.

Maybe you can do us all a favor and find another board to post on so we don't have to deal with that garbage.

Say what? That post makes about as much sense as some people wanting Nagy to be let go and your post a few days ago saying Kai plays down on the post the majority of the time.

By the way, props to Kai for stayng focused in a game where a few shots wouldn't fall for him. Had some big FT's down the stretch and passed well all night.

But, I will retire to my "mud throwing" lair, this thread is well beyond productive.

                On to the Bison!

What shot? Did it happen or not? I have no idea what it takes to achieve what he has. A great story! However, I stated the facts. I also said we will take the win. Feel free to skip my posts if you wish. Your version of "garbage" is obviously different than mine.

As I said before. This is a dead thread...

Apology accepted. I agree with you that some think the Summit is a cakewalk. I was never one of those. I will go on record and say that any D1 league is stronger than the old NCC. I have been a Jacks fan for over 40 years and I have learned to be patient and it will happen. Would I like to see us win every game? Yes. Do I think it's going to turn out that way? No. We are making strides, and it will happen. Go Jacks.

Haven't had a chance to post since the game. Having read all the posts after the end of the game you would have thought we lost.

I understand the frustration out there but I have and will continue to be in Nagy's corner for a couple more years. Hey, he has done a lot for SDSU and he deserves the chance to take us completely through transition. He is an absolute class act on and off the court. I respect the fact that when he was faced with a choice to stay and take SDSU through transition or move to calmer waters, he chose to stay. HE HAS SHOWN HIS COMMITTMENT TO SDSU!!!

As for the game, no it wasn't a thing of beauty but I saw a different ending to the game than what has been happening lately. The intensity with 8-10 minutes to go really picked up. The players were moving without the ball better than I have seen this year and they were rewarded with layups and dunks. Defensively the intensity was there. There were still some mistakes and missed free-throws but they got it done. THEY GOT IT DONE!!!

Nice crowd and even better to see them into the game. It was a fun night in Frost Arena!

Now let's get a winning streak started!

I was thinking the same thing SUPERBUNNY. I'm starting to think we need to get CoyoteFan back on here, so we can kick his ass all over the board instead of each others.

Great atmosphere at Frost Saturday night...I think it's offical, the doubleheaders where sorely missed with the move to D-1. Personally I like the one game per night, but if 3800 people are going to show up, then by all means, get all the doubleheaders you can!!
It was also great to see the student section filled for the second night in a row, great job students!!
And most importantly, great win by both the men and women. Wins are good anytime you can get them in this conference and 3800 fans is a definite advantage over a lot of the teams in the Summit who are used to playing in front of much less at home.

                            Go Jacks!!
                            SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.

I don't understand all the talk about a Coaching change? Coach Nagy has and will continue to lead the Jacks and has done so exceptionally well I may add. If I recall correctly some of the fans on this board wanted Stig gone just a couple of years ago. Now he wins the GWC, conference Coach of the year, nominated for national recognition as Coach of the year and so on. Times change quickly. Everyone should have understood that the transition would be more difficult for the men's BB program than the balance of our programs. I feel that other than MBB our core programs excelled during the transition which is unusual for any program while in hell. Congrats go out to those athletes and Coach's. That being said, I know of no one that wants our MBB team to win more than Coach Nagy. It is important for the program that all the current players and Coach's stay on board as the future looks pretty good. The time is near that our men will step up and complete. Times change quickly.

                                Go big,Go blue, Go Jacks
