Saw Kansas play last Friday night. They really don't have a true 5....they have athletic kids that rotate in the 4 and 5 spot and only have 4 kids 6'9" or taller on the roster. They bring Cole Aldrich off the bench and play him at the 4. They do have outstanding guard play and more than one shooter on the roster. Their bigs can also step out and shoot the three. The recent trend is to play with a little smaller more athletic player at the 4 or 5 position. Kai is more of a 3 man than 4 or 5. He hasn't shot lights out. I've seen two games and the only consistent shooter has been Sargent. Regardless of what the kids have done in HS or done in college games past...this team has not shot the ball that great. Less than 45% overall shooting from the field does not impress me and I still have not seen a 3-pt threat other than Sargent. I expect this team to see a lot of zone if the trend continues. Cordova can step out beyond the arch but it's an adventure....not sure you'll see it happen much.

As for naming prospects..yes I'm going to mention Jordan Miller. He's unsigned, he's a hot prospect and SDSU has genuine interest in him. I am sure that ruffles the feathers of those who follow others in the state but right now he's the best available in the area and would fill a need for the team. The team is young and there is room for improvement. I'm certain they will improve as the season goes along. The coaches have not given up but this will be a frustrating year at times due to the inexperience and youth.

As for intensity...come on a holiday being an excuse for not playing hard? Seriously, you can do better than that......even you can't buy that as an excuse Joeboo. Wow.

The facts are this. We have good YOUNG guards compared to post that other then Cordova are average at best or going to graduate.
The facts are this I DID watch the webcast game of Jordan Miller in North Carolina with Colton Iverson... HE looked lost... Fact I talk to numerous AA players they all say he isn't D-I (call that hearsay I call it asking somebody that has an expert opinion a little bit better then mine because I don't play AA basketball nor do I watch a lot of it)... Fact Jordan Miller was a JV player until the spring of last year
I don't want to knock Jordan Miller by any means because I think he is a good player and may even be a boarderline D-I player but he is not what we need.... He is a combo guard. and we only have Callahan and Sargent there....
Fact we have 3 hs verballs none are post.
He's 6'4" .... much bigger than he was in May when he played in the Bob Gibbons Tournament. He's getting looks from other DI schools and regardless of what you've seen, heard, witnessed....I think you may want to quit typing negatively about the Miller kid unless you've seen him as recent as today. He's has great athletic ability, vision, handles and makes him team better. You mention that he's not D1 because AA players tell you that...hum.....ok. I am not biased towards Schooler kids.....I speak only what I see and know. You don't have to believe it you can continue to ask the neighbors....sisters, brothers cousins, mailman down the block who saw him last week and get their opinion....or you can contact the schools who are actively recruiting the kid. SDSU is one of them...call Nagy and ask his opinion. Sorry dude, he's better than you think and he is most likely going DI regardless of your thoughts or what you type on here. It has nothing to do with what I type either....I just make the phone calls, the coaches do the evaluations. Get over it.

The intensity is a joke i know monday shouldn't be an excuse but it is a reason... not a good one even I can admit that.

With post play come on guys there are plenty of centers out there that SDSU can get... heck black hills state's center I think could help out SDSU....

I talked to the kid that played against him since he was in junior high and here is what he said... This was about an hour ago.... "He is bigger now about 6-3/6-4ish I still think D-I is a stretch he can shoot always could, from what I am hearing he has a ton of D-II offers, D-I coaches still talking he may have 1 or 2 very small D-I schools interested".... That is what he says...

I look at that and say he is good he has the family gene pool on his side but my question is this? When it comes down to the fact that SDSU has 1 hs scholarship to give for this year and next does it come down to wants or needs... Unless this kid is michael jordan I think a post or somebody that can board would better suite this team....

The most current crop of mid majors typically put 2-3 shooters on the floor, a slasher, and a couple of hardworking post player types. Most of the posts are 6'8". Newsflash: 6'9" highschool players who can move, shoot, rebound, and pass probably do not have SDSU on their radar unless their home ZIP code is 57007 (and even that might be a stretch).

For the foreseeable future our bigs are going to have to be hard working overachievers. We have that right now, they just aren't necessarily playing like it.

One thing that does irk me is when people suggest booting players because of lackluster performance 2 games into a season. Right now Sargeant is looking pretty good and it seems like a lot of posters on here think he is all conference. 3 games from now when he is averaging 3 a game, the same posters will be calling him garbage and a recruiting mistake. That's just dumb. But I can guarantee that if he is averaging 3 a game some on here will say that.

It seems to happen a lot with our fans. The starting QB throws a couple of interceptions? Bury him on the bench. Basketball team is struggling? Cut players scholarships. Thank God our coaches are more level headed than this bunch.

Is that how you guys run your personal or business lives? Wife really made a stinker of a dinner tonight. She's gone. Employee had a bad day and cost the business some money...they're gone. Dog didn't scare up any birds...he's going the way of Old Yeller.

We're not DII anymore. We have stepped into a pond with bigger fish. It does take time to develop into a winner, how long that is I don't know. I'm content to trust the administration to do what is right for the school, its students, and its athletic department.
Thats why SDSU should of recruited Vlastuin... the kid would of signed if we would of offered. He is the most athletic kid in the state out rebounded STM at state tournament... You redshirt him tell him to work on a 15 foot jumper and he is a high D-I tallent playing at SDSU....

Cutting scholarships is a joke you can't do that unless they commit a crime, flunk out, or do something really dumb....

There was a time when players were motivated by their own sense of pride in their performance. Where did that go? Oh, wait... it's still there. Check out the Jackrabbit women's team.

Joeboo...the lack of intensity was because of Veteran's Day? Are you freaking serious? That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

No its a monday night after a long weekend.... its not a good one but i think that was part of the reason..... not a big crowd no classes day gets long you get drowsy I have seen it for high school football games when they don't have classes that day... they just look a step slower not quite there... I think when they play Montana we will get a real look... i'm not saying it is going to be alot better or anything i just think it will be different.

Not wanting to be too hard on JoeBoo, but for a guy sitting in a dorm room in Spearfish, you really got all sorts of feel for the what went on at Frost last night, more than I did and I was at the game. Oh maybe I was thinking too much about my Christmas Shopping list and could I find those receipts for expense reports at work. Silly me I bought a season ticket, I should get my money's worth. Do the players have an idea about what Veterans Day is about other than a day off?
I am hoping some do, but quite a few dont.

BTW your blog has not been updated since last June. How come?

rcjacks stands corrected. This is the dumbest thing I have seen on here lately, well besides the Bison fans weak shots at making fun of our team.

facts are fact and im trying to explain them...

FACT the team didn't come out and play with intensity rather then harp on them I am going to give them excuses im that type of a guy for a time being... I took the coaching class and if I learned one thing it was this you don't call out a young team.... I'm not saying that it isn't right that the team came out with no intensity but rather then harp on them I am just saying hay there were other factors in no means am I condoling it I am just saying this rather then harp on them and the coaches why not give them a few more weeks to see what type of a team this really is... K....

you guys can call me dumb all you want it really doesn't bother me but facts are facts come on guys I think any athlete can say they have been there or at least I can I remember playing baseball games on holidays or basketball games during state wrestling tournament or christmas vacation it can get hard, nobody is in the stands you did nothing all day but think about the game and maybe take a nap. I think some of you guys need to realize that these guys are just kids..... Does this team need to come out with more intensity and desire yes but I am going to give them Montana to see what happens before i judge the basketball program. Montana's game should allow for intensity there should be a big crowd its going to be after the football game the kids will be pumped the students will be pumped after we win the Dakota Marker......

I might have to update the blog... I personally know what Veterans day is all about my dad was in the national guards and though he is not a veteran many of his Guard buddies are... But you are right many students don't know what it is about and many do nothing or go home....

updated my blog... http://sdsportsintheeyesofjoevoigt.blogspot.com/ (for those of you that don't know it)

Fact--> SDSU started the game on a 12 to ZERO run. What more do you want.

Ohh thats right you did not see the game, my bad.

Two games played and two very long , pretty negative threads. I don't know if i want to be around here it the Jacks actually lose a game.

Btw, i know this has been touched on but what is with the crowd? I understand the thought process about winning games and then the crowd will come, but i think there is a little of the chicken or the egg thing here. this team could use some support to help them win games. I've been to some funerals with rowdier people than what was there last night.

There's a few of us students that try. I wish I could explain the laziness that has been taking over the crowds little by little the past few years. Maybe it's the lack of nothing big being at stake, I don't know. You have to remember some in the crowd were at 6 events in less than 72 hours. That can wear out the older crowd's voices. Otherwise, I got nothing. It's really a shame that the crowds don't like to get into the game at all.
