7 points is not nearly a large enough margin. We need to get better fast!

Things the Jacks need to work on
Rebounding... Cordova rebounded but not to many others if others can't Cordova will be seeing a lot of minutes
Turnovers... Man sloppy sloppy sloppy I'm not sure what the reason was but it was sloppy
inside shots... if you can't make them don't shoot them it seems like they missed a ton of short shots and layups... com on guys
free-throws... better but still just over 50% I know its an improvement but as a team they should be able to shoot 75%+

Cordova 10 boards very impressive he seems raw but is a high major talent.

Problem, I assumed that so thats little consolation for me. Kai only gets 3 after the half. We need more production out of him in the second half. Thats no dig on Kai, thats just a fact.

Getting down on this team isn't going to do any good. I apologize for my previous rants. Coach and the players know what they have to do and I'm sure they are working on it. As 02 said, we have played 2 games and finished ahead on the scoreboard in both. I'll take it. Looking forward to seeing an inspired and talented team on Saturday night. Thats the best I can muster right now.

A shovel is a shovel. This team needs to make some significant progress in a big hurry or its going to be an even longer year than last.

Now, someone find the positives for me. I'm not in a good frame of mind right now.

Sorry Doc, I've got nothing for ya. That was brutal to listen too, I can't imagine what it was like to watch. Oh yeah, there was only 1300 folks there, so it didn't hurt the eyes of to many. (Another fine turnout)
Better figure something out quick or the Griz are going to run the Jacks out of our own gym.

I didn't get to watch much of this game and just skimmed the posts. Who are the redshirts for the season?

                Probably Moss and Casey.

Just got in, didnt get a chance to listen. This was a joke!! This year IS going to be longer than last year. NO EXCUSES. We have two Div I players, two or three who have potential is that is it. Next years class does not look any better. If it is going to be as long a year as I think it is, changes need to be made.

In hind sight maybe too rash a post. But I attended during the great years and have now suffered through the last lean ones.

Re: U of Mary Game Thread

Just got back from the game. One word: UGLY.

I was far from impressed tonight and my general thoughts are if we play like this throughout the season, we aren't even going to get close to 10 wins.

The 20+ turnovers and the 50% FT shooting were the two most obvious negatives. Those are two areas that can be improved and hopefully they will get better. The thing that bothers me the most was the lack of intensity and hustle. I know this was the U. of Mary but I would think the players and the coaches would be more than eager to show the fans how much better they are going to be. They simply did not do that tonight. A single digit win against Mary was far less than I was expecting tonight.

Engen and Basset...they just aren't very good. Engen doesn't have the body nor the coordinatinon to play at this level. Basset...he's a walking turnover waiting to happen. I don't feel he belongs at this level either.

I was most impressed tonight with Cordova. He played with more intensity than anyone else on the team and was impressive on the boards. I can imagine he has been looking forward to this night for a long time being a red-shirt freshman. He certainly played that way and hopefully he can keep that up throughout the season.

Beran was his usual self tonight. Working hard and trying to make things happen. Unfortuanetly he was the exception rather than the rule.

Do I feel we are a better team and have more potential this year? Yes. Although it has been stated previously it is worth stating again we are physically much better this year. But as Nagy said in the post-game interview, we are still a very, very young team and we are going to have games like this. I just wish we could use games like this to build some confidence and we continually fail to do that.

Cassaday did play a little tonight but didn't show much either way. He was quite timid as you would expect a freshman in his first game coming off an injury to be. He is a big presence although I worry if he'll be quick enough to play a signficant role. I'm sure they'll be able to find a spot for him somewhere.

Lastly, looks like Moss and Casey will red-shirt as they were two of the 4 guys that didn't play tonight. The other two were walk-on/practice players (Tivis/DeBoer).

Re: U of Mary Game Thread

Just got back from the game, very sloppy on both sides of the ball. Thank goodness Mary's guards are terrible or it could have been worse. A couple of things that concern me were the decisions made by our young guards and the pure lack of confidence. Nobody looked like they wanted to shoot. The best thing about the night we won. Mary is not going to win a ton of games but we beat them. Hopefully we can find some swagger and confidence.

Where are the freaking students? I know it is a long weekend but come on. There was nobody there and it was quieter than the library.

Re: U of Mary Game Thread

That game really hurt to watch. I have no idea what needs to be done to get this team to play offense competently, but whatever it is, they didn't do it tonight. Defense wasn't terrible, mostly, although rebounding was simply atrocious. On the other hand, Mary isn't a very good team, I think.

Thomas Bassett didn't look like he was terribly interested in being on the team. That's too bad, we'll need his size and strength at some point this year. I hope he achieves a successful attitude adjustment.

Kai Williams looked alternatively like he was trying to do everything, and trying not to get hurt. He had a couple of pretty hard falls in the game.

Callahan was having problems with leg cramps.

The team needs to figure out how to rebound on both ends of the court. I saw little interest from the Jacks in getting after the ball, except for a few plays notably from Beran, Cassaday, and Cordova.

I like Josh Cassaday. I think he's my new favorite player especially with Casey apparently redshirted this year.

Palarca and Sargent will eventually be a good backcourt, I think, but they're both true freshmen. That's gonna hurt for a while.

All in all, a very disappointing outing from our Jackrabbits. I never thought that they were ever in serious trouble of losing this game, but should have put Mary away by 40. Instead, they eke out a very lackluster win. All in all, they Jacks didn't look like they had a very good idea what to do out there. Mary was more aggressive most of the night, and it showed. The Jacks looked like they were just going through the motions, and that showed, too.

Better play at a higher intensity level is needed. There are no more Marys on our schedule. I'm not going to hit the panic button just yet, but I'm searching the SDSUFans.com control panel to locate it, just in case.

Amen to that propar! I just love it when we are playing the second game of the season, and somebody makes a statement like that. Doesn't take a genius to think that we need to get better fast, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that we need a better season this year for a number of reasons. But it's one thing to think that way, and another to be saying them at this stage. Yeh, we need to get better. Let's see if that happens. In the meantime, I appreciate jackmd for realizing the same thing.

There is no doubt that we will learn a lot more Saturday night when Montana comes to town, about where we stand (as of the third game of the season anyway).

I was at the game, and yes, it was an uncomfortable feeling. Seeing Kai have a real off night (and hit the floor HARD several times) wasn't fun. To ask Ben not to shoot when he is inside and has the ball, is not the answer IMHO, but he just could not quite get them over the front of the rim. AC hit the boards hard and looks to do a great job of getting into position for the rebounds. I believe Sargent will be an excellent player, but he didn't have a very good night either. Onward and upward...Go JACKS!

Guys, how long do we have to wait? I mean Ben and Mo are gone at the end of the year and with Engen and Bassett being non-factors, we have to rebuild the front cout again. Sarge and Palarca maybe a couple of years away from being being consistently good players and by that time Kai maybe gone. Moss and cassady have potential but as many question marks and not one of the recruits impresses me. This SHOULD be our best year since going Div I and it is looking like less than stellar. What is the answer????????
