Cunningham was sitting court side, non of the Madison players came and talked to him after any of the games... (atleast what I saw)

And why the hell are you making fun of senator Kloucek... He gets a lil fired up in Pierre (what does that have to do with SDSU basketball) but there was alot of people that thought SDSU was dumb for going D-I. I believe Sen Kloucek is an alum of SDSU and any alum of SDSU especually one that holds office I believe can express his opinion... if it is or isn't the same as yours.
Dude.........NO NO NO on all points.  No DI coach carries a note book or clipboard to recruit kids at a game.  Any college coach for that matter.  Even in the summer time when they sit in gyms for hours on end they don't carry clip boards and note books.  They might have a tournament Player Information Guide but they aren't carring notebooks and clip boards.  Where do you come up with this information?

2.)  The coach isn't allowed to talk to the Madison players.  They are Sophs in high school, have not signed a letter of intent and therefore he can't communicate with them.  Certainly not at a seat located courtside in front of 7,000 fans.  Please learn the rules.

SDSU is simply at the tournament to show support for two recruits that have verbally committed.  He's not there to take notes, critique their play.  They already have Fiegen and White.

No they had 1 full time assistant (getting paid a salary) and 2 Grad Assistants (who are enrolled in Grad School and getting their schooling paid for).

If I remember correctly, Cunningham (or DC if you prefer) is done this year. He is a GA who's 2 years is up this May. Just to add further clarification to the question and subsequent answer.

          Re: New Assistant Coach

In an effort to clarify things further.  SDSU currently has 1 Head Coach, 1 paid Assistant Coach, and 2 GA Assistants.  Moving into the '07-'08 season SDSU will have 1 Head Coach, 2 paid Assistant Coaches, and 2 GA Assistants.  By NCAA rule, we could add another on the court paid Assistant and a paid Director of Basketball Operations (coach who is not allowed on the court on game days) if and when we choose.

So we could have 1 Head Coach, up to 3 paid on the court assistant coahes, 1 paid Director of Baskeball Operations, and GA and SA assistant coaches.

According the Terry's most recent story the new Assistant Coaching position will go into effect on July 1 (the same day we officially join the Mid-Con) when the new academic year begins.

P.S. MJA is right if DC does not get the new Assistant Coaching position he will be gone as this past season was his second as a GA.

That is great for DC and for SDSU. If you ever have a chance to talk to him you should, I know its a bit cliche but he really is one of the nicest people I have met.

                      Re: New Assistant Coach

It's official now, saw the press release yesterday.
South Dakota State University announced the hiring Deryl Cunningham as Jackrabbit men’s basketball assistant coach on Wednesday.

“We are very excited to add Deryl to our staff. He brings expertise that most staffs wish they had,” said SDSU head coach Scott Nagy. “Because of his experience in professional basketball and the fact he played under several great coaches he has been able to teach our big men things that I could not. His contacts in the Chicago-land area and the Upper Midwest will be very valuable in recruiting. There isn't a place I go that somebody doesn't come up to D.C. from his past. He will definitely help us with where we have to go.”

Cunningham, who came to SDSU in 2005 as a graduate assistant, will replace Troy Larson, who will remain on staff until June 30.

I dont think we have ever had a graduate asssistant with this much experience and with a great network of contacts. Lets hope DC will be with us for a few years.

Does this mean we still need to hire another assistant since DC is replacing our current assistant?

Today's Argus Leader has a story about the hiring of D.C., and talks about Coach Larson and him not being asked to return. It said that they tried to contact him, but he declined to comment of the situation. Haven't heard what he may be doing next year.
