BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota State University signed California high school prospect Michael Palarca to a letter of intent on Tuesday, indicating his plans to enroll at SDSU next fall and participate in the men’s basketball program.
A 5-10 guard from Santa Clarita, Calif., and Chatsworth High Shcool’s all-time leader in points, assitsts and steals, Palarca averaged 18.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.1 steals per game in 2006-07 as a senior. He also led the Chancellors to a 20-8 record and into the second round of the Los Angeles City Championship.
Palarca also led Chatsworth to a 9-1 West Valley League record, earning him league most valuable player honors in the process. In addition to his MVP honors, he earned all-city and all-area honors during his senior year, when he ranked 13th in the nation with 134 steals. . . . (read more)
Go State!
5.1 steals per game Even for high school, that is a good defensive stat to bring with him.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--
My brother's cousin in-law's newphew's friend's kid played against this kid last summer. He told me he's 5'8" at best. He also mentioned that he has DI potential. I know DI potential when I hear about, because I played against Mike Miller in seventh grade. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Somebody told me accouple of years ago if I wanted to get the boards hot just start posting controversal stuff.
As far as Doty I'll be serious now... Out of high school I thought he was a D-I kid, and I think he thought as well, he went NAIA hoping that he would get a shot at a legit D-I college and things kind of fell apart from there. Do I think he is a D-I player or even a guy that SDSU should recruit, no not really, but if SDSU is going to cary over there 1 available scholarship I would like to see it go out to Craig or a player like him. Would he be a go to threat? no. but he would play 110% would play great defense and would help out alot with a young team.
Just one question and seriously not trying to start anything but do you think before you type? If Craig Doty is DI caliber then so are 300 other current HS kids in this state. Seriously man, think before you write. Study the game, study the athlete and then post something of substance. You really make yourself out to be unintelligent and none of your postings hold any credibility. It's one thing to have an opinion and another thing to post the most absurb comments regarding former or current HS athletes. SDSU will always sit on a scholarship before handing them out to charity. Wow, just the suggestion alone is absolutely out there. And what NAIA kids go to that level to garner a DI scholarship. When was the last time any SD HS kid did that in this state? Now you have posters coming after you with drawn out postings that are basically making fun of you. Maybe you haven't caught on yet but that is what is happening.
Congrads to the Men's BB staff, a great signing. The stats are very impressive and this is the kind of kid we need badly. Now to find a post or two and things should start looking up next year.
I posted something dumb, what a surprise I got attacked... big deal im kind of used to it..
It gets Old Cadsev your not as creditable as you seem. I looked back at some of your post, first you said that State was done after signing Sargent, Moss, and the Madison kids... You also stated that State was going to quit with the 2 freshman and only go after JuCo kids to even out the scholarships... I may not be creditable and I may say alot of dumb things but I don't come on here and sound creditable when all the stuff i say i crap.. You said how SDSU needs to get a kid like Louie Krogman when playing for the scholers, now your saying well they don't need them. As far as 300 kids with a tallent level of Craig Doty, I think you need to check your figures, there isnt 300 kids with the talent level of myself and I havn't played in well along time.
Don't attack my post just say no I don't think SDSU should go in that direction.
Do you see SDSU redshirting many of these kids? I would redshirt Moss and Sargent as in there prety much the same player as Cadwell and Kai... As far as Cassady and Palarca... both play possitions that would allow them to come in and play good minutes, and I don't know enough about the two guys too know if a redshirt would benifit them or not.
And as far as Alcester being in Scotland I don't get the joke at all, Alcester is east of Berdsford. Scotland the town is west of Yankton and Scotland the country is part of the United Kingdom.
Everybody posts opinions on here, and if someone doesn’t agree with it, just say so. No need to call on the credibility of some ones ideas. Sometimes I agree with someone and sometimes it’s someone else, but just because I think someone may have posted something I think is stupid or wrong means that they have less credibility or the right to post their ideas. He didn’t say giving out the last scholarship was charity, he said he would play hard and be a good team member. At least that’s what I got out of the post. Well, I know I’ve taken my fair share or ill will for my ideas from other people which I thought were unnecessary. The way the team ended up last year maybe it wouldn’t hurt taking a player for one year who will hustle and work as hard to be on the team as the team from last year did not always appear to give it 100%. Eric Heien came in from a smaller school and as far as I understand it he was not expected to play much, mainly he transferred for school reasons. However a small school player such as Eric 2 years ago was a good surprise and addition to our team. Who is to say that another player could not do the same? I don’t know anything about the kid you are talking about nor do I think it’s our best solution, but the personal attacks don’t help anyone on this site. Take everybody’s post and opinions as what you think they are worth.

Thing is he posted the comment about Doty, then posted this....

He was trying to get people to give him crap. How does that help the thread at all?
I've backed him up on several occasions after getting heat from people. I wasn't going to in that case though.
My take on our signings, (which isn't probably worth two cents)
I don't think Moss or Sargeant are anything like Cadwell.
Moss- Athletic 2 or 3 who will be a shut down defender who will D up other teams best guard. Probably won't have a very consistant offensive game, at least not in the first couples years. Needs to improve his outside range, and if he develops into a slasher than he will really need to improve his free throws.
Comparable to Austin Pennick at NDSU, as Terry V. has said.
NBA Comparison to an early Ron Artest without the attitude I hope.
Sargent- Decent athlete who has a good jump shot and good size. Probably could play 1-3, but will see most time at the 2. Type of player who will drive, than stop and pop at around 15 feet. Seems to have good leadership qualities and is a solid kid.
Terry V. compared him Mike Nelson of NDSU.
NBA Comparison to Matt Harpring, Wally Szerbiak
Cassidy - Good size. Big enough to have an inside game, athletic enough and a good enough shooter to play outside. Will see time primarily at 3, possibly some 4.
Compared his game to Dirk Novitski.
To stay with the NDSU comparisons it seems like he's simular to Brett Winkleman.
Palarca - Recruit that I know the least about. (not that I really know much about any of them) Seems like he's more of the true point guard who gets players involved on offense and plays pesky defense. Not really a good 3pt shooter but can probably take it to the hole and shoot a good FT%.
Seems to me to be simular to Mackenzie Casey. Maybe quicker.
NBA Comparison to Rajon Rondo or Rafer Alston without the shot.
Once again, just like to reiterate that I was just having some fun. Nobody needs to come back with a reply stating how my opinion means nothing because I'm not Scott Nagy or some college Scout. Just thought it would be fun to get some other peoples comparisons of our future jackrabbits. I've never even seen Palarca or Cassidy play, and the game I saw Sargent play was on TV in the Iowa Championship game and he didn't play very well.
Example:
"Geez, that was a stupid post,"
versus
"Geez, you're stupid."
We're all intelligent enough to gain, after a time, a sense of whose posts will make rational sense and those posters who, well, have work to do in that department.
I believe we were discussing the 2007 recruits . . .
Other than the lack of a big man, it seems to be an interesting recruiting class so far. We'd all love to see that 6'10" 260-lb beast sign a Letter of Intent, but I'm starting to see a team that might, eventually, have a combination of quickness and height around the perimeter to give some teams some match-up problems, maybe enough to make up for some of that height deficit. Plus, if both Beran and Berte come back, and surrounded with our returning and new players, it looks to be an intriguing year next year.
(I can't help it, I'm an optimist by nature . . . )
I'm almost positive about this, I believe Wade Kooiman, who is now Dakota State's head men's basketball coach, was the last men's basketball player to come from California.

SDSU has signed a 4 year HS player from CA. That leaves them with one scholarship left right now that is going towards a JUCO player. They will sit on a scholarship for the 2009 class and give the JUCO one to either White or Fiegen in two years.
For the 2008 class they only have one remaining scholarship.....why because they already have received a verbal from Colorado HS Athlete James Rader (6'7" 4-man).
The remaining scholarship in the 2008 class will be put towards a big. They won't sign a guard.....UNLESS SOMEONE LEAVES AGAIN! Gee funny how when scholarship athletes leave they open up scholarships and needs, making room for more athletes and making it possible to sign more kids in a given class.
This is the current state of recruitment today at SDSU.......oh and they anticipate 4 scholarships for the 2010 class.....good thing.......decent athletes in state to choose from that year.
