Winkleman's only 6'6", but I agree keep recruiting wings. If they are athletic to the basket and can shoot that is what we need and it sounds like Cassady can do both. I think Kai and him are probably are only true threes. Moss and Sargent will both be in the backcourt somewhere either a 1 or a 2. The Madison kids shoudln't really play into what we are recruting now becasuse they are still two years down the road, but while White is probably a three I think most people see Fiegen growing into a 4 or 5.

You are right about the Madison kids, I watched Madison play lennnox fairly early then I watched them play at the state tournament and Fiegan will become a 4 or a 5, and White looked more like a 2 guard then a 3.

We are replacing Frias, Kleinjan, and Hoogeveen with Cordova, Beran, Berte, Sargeant, Moss, and now Cassaday, plus a possible JUCO or two.  The Jackrabbit men will be better this year, I don't see how they could possibly not be simply by having a 10 man rotation of athletic players.

Keep your heads up guys, things are getting better.

Even if we factor in the departures of Bilitz, Hornby and Brandon into the equation, the additions to the team seem to outweigh the losses. The addition of a juco or two would erase any doubt. Basset, Loney and Engren have size and will be returning. Still, a juco with some heft, if not great height, would be especially welcome. I look forward to seeing Cassaday, Sargent and Moss. They could be a very talented trio.

The plan is to actively recruit two juco's this year (two scholarships for the 2009 Freshmen) and then seek out 2-3 in the 2008 class (depending on a 4 year kid signing or juco). If they don't sign two juco kids this year don't look for a PG or Guard to be signed in the 2008 class. They need scholarships for the 2009 class and won't sit on a scholarship for two seasons.

Cadsev, or anyone else, is SDSU showing early interest in Brennan Cougill (as much interest as they can with a high school sophomore) from Sioux City Heelan? I know he has been mentioned before and it seems like the consensus is he is out of State's reach, but I don't believe that. I wonder if Sargent will be a huge piece in the equation to get Cougill. He's raw right now but he could grow into something special. One of the best to come out of Heelan, or Sioux City for that matter, and that is saying a lot. I also like Alex Walker from Sioux City North. 6-5 to 6-6, sophomore, shoots the 3 well. If he could grow 3-4 more inches he could be a nightmare matchup at power forward.

I'm sure they are interested in Cougill being that he's a big and all but as of now they don't have any more scholarships for the 2009 class. That could change if someone leaves the current roster, things happen like that over the course of time. Both scholarships for 2009 are currently committed to White and Fiegen. I see that Cougill's Barnstormer team lost in the IA State AAU to the other Barnstormer team. A little surprised since they also have AJ Derby as well. Walker plays for the team that won the title.

I talked to some basketball kids from Colorado over the weekend and they both new Cassady prety well they were in the same city league and played together at the Y, they said that from what they have heard about SDSU that it seems the perfect fit for him. He can come in and and learn while seeing floor time, also since SDSU has other shooters teams won't be able to key on him and since hes versital being able to play the 3 positions it will be hard to defend him.

Dusko Stojnic a 6'10 center who is originally from Bosnia and signed with University of Wyoming in the early signing period has been granted his release and has reopened his recruiting. He played at Des Moines CC his sophmore year and Eastern Arizona College his freshman year.

Jacks have a California recruit coming to campus this week. HS kid who would fill the guard need for the next few years. If they land the kid they will only seek one Juco kid to fill the remaining scholarship for this year. Also would mean that their guard needs would most likely be met for the 2008 class and that a big man would be a priority.

                      Scholarship math
08 07     Freshman    Sophomore Junior Senior
                          2     1 4 (5) (8)     4 (12)   1(2)  (12)    1(2) (13)

                      thats 10 (Bertre)
                      07-- 1 verbel
                      08 2 verbels

So my math says that Nagy either gives a JuCo Junior a scholarship or holds one threw for 08
also assuming they sign one more true freshman would mean that they would have one left for 07? then

the () is either a possible addition or the total for those 4 years assuming no redshirts/medshirts/transfers, if there is any math problems correct them.

Does a redshirt count aggainst the 13 max in that season if they are on scholarship?? i think it does but not shure

Just heard on the sports on 910 over the noon hour that the Jacks have signed a guard from California. Did not catch his name. Thought they said he was 5' 10".

I looked and couldn't find any press release of any type. I believe you though just couldn't find out any information.
1 scholarship left, most likely a JuCo

I know I will get heat for saying this but what about a kid like Craig Doty from Alcester
The kid was recruited by SDSU as well as other D-I for football decided to play basketball and just didn't work out at Morningside or Dakota State, played last year at Minnesota West and is currently playing baseball with them, has seemed to have gotten his head on straight. A great talent would be a senior elgibilty, could really help with the deffense and come in and play strong minutes. And wouldn't be a threat of leaving in the middle of the season as it is his last year of elgibility and its his home state.

Sounds like we got this guy. Anyone with more details? Hopefully Nagy will be talking about him soon.

I heard about it on 910. I have not been able to find a press release. Mackenzie Casey helps out in my son's classroom and he told my son about him yesterday. I wrote it off as the recruit from Colorado that signed earlier until I heard it on the sports over the noon hour. I missed the young mans name though.
