Nothing surprises with the South Dakota Press. This kind of information is reported immediatey in the print and electronic media in other states covering DI Schools.

Some more information on Clint Sargent from a recruiting service. It sounds like he can easily pack on another 20-25 pounds to his 6'4 frame.

It's an NCAA violation for schools to announce commitments regarding underclassmen. In the cases of the verbals this week the athletes themselves have to "leak" the information to the press. If they desire to keep it private then it doesn't get announced. Be patient I'm sure it will leak out soon enough. SD is a very small state.

I'm certainly aware the information on verbals and target recruits cannnot come from the athletic department, however we apparently have nobody within the media in South Dakota that is trying to piece the information together. I see verbals reported everyday in other newspapers. Clint Sargent verbaled to State almost a month ago and nothing has been reported.

We're not alone ... It doesn't appear that anything's been reported in his hometown paper, the Sioux City Journal, either.

It seems we have three scholarships to give based on the max of 13 in the 2007/2008 season. If Clint Sargent and Dale Moss committ as expected we have one remaining scholarship. These guys are both in the 6'4 range and will likely play the 2 or 3. It seems what we are lacking on the roster is a big/strong power forward in the 6'7 to 6'8 range. The other known player the Jacks have shown interest in is Urbandale Iowa's Ethan Freeman. Ethan is a very athletic 6'5 player who resembles many players already on the roster. Maybe we will go to the Junior College route to find that bigger/mature player who can mix it up inside. It sound like Engen will be the center in the middle with Bilitz backing him up, but feel we need some more bulk in the middle to compliment this very athletic, but undersized team. The player I'm describing is probably the most difficult kind of player to find for a low to mid major team? Some help may be on the way down the road as according to Iowa Preps Jacks looking at sophmore Brennan Cougil of Sioux City Heelan who goes 6'8 260.

I don't know if this has been brought up, but talking to my dad over the weekend, it appears as though the Peterka kid from my home town verballed to Augie. Cadsev could back me up if this is true. He didn't get offered by SDSU if my info is correct. Cadsev?

I'm not trying to turn this into a smack issue, but I found these comments interesting.

I really like the idea of playing Division I basketball

Despite what others may say, kids want to play at the highest level.

Sargent said he picked South Dakota State over NCAA Division II schools Minnesota State-Mankato, South Dakota and North Dakota, as well as NCAA Division I Charleston Southern.

Being Division I gives SDSU a distinct advantage over other local universities that are Division II. This is one of the main reason's UND announced that they want to move up to Division I. NDSU has been beating UND in recruiting for football ever since they moved to DI-AA football.

It came down to the fact that he'd be playing Division I and when SDSU announced it would be playing in a conference, that sealed it for him.

SDSU landing a conference invitation is already paying dividends and I think SDSU will win more recruits because of it.

                    Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Looks like we missed out on a tall kid from Wyoming.
CODY, Wyo. -- Adam Waddell, a 6-foot, 9-inch forward/center, said he would sign a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Wyoming, where both of his parents were athletes.

"It`s an honor, being from Wyoming and growing up here, just to be even looked at by them," Waddell said. "I`ve always wanted to be a Cowboy."

Waddell averaged 14 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game last year for Cody, placing him in the top three in the Class 4A Northern Conference in all three categories.

He chose Wyoming over Boise State, Montana, South Dakota State and Weber State.

If im not recalling wasn't cordova supposed to be in the same class as willard because of his age? And if im not mistaking i saw this kid play in open gym and he has a body of a big ten player and hes more of a three player than a center so how can you compare him to sam willard? I saw some athletic moves from him, i watched him snatch back a two handed tip dunk on robert bilitz. I sure wish this guy was elgible this kid is athletic and he is very versitile i can't wait to see this product next year. With Callahan running the point and Cordove & Kai at the 2 forward spots SDSU is in for a real treat. I graduated from peire 2 years ago i have never saw basketball like this.

Brandon Valley and Jacks recruit Dale Moss will be playing at Brookings on December 14th. Might be a good opportunity to get a look at part of our future.
