  • Re: 2007 Recruits

I guess we can all agree we lack size and depth at the center and power forward position. We just do not match up well size wise with a lot of DI teams and are asking many of our players to play out of position. So where do we go to get help. I took a look at some of the Preps Sites in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota to see who was still availble in High School and JC.

    Iowa-
Jabril Banks 6'7 235 PF Indian Hills CC
Nestor Colmenares 6'7 225 PF Indian Hills
    Antoine Dade 6'7 220
    Cem Dinc 6'10 C Marshalltown
    Minnesota-
Seth Noreen 6'6 PF St Cloud Apollo
James Granstra 6'10 C Southwest Star Concept
Brady Fairbanks 6'4 Cass Lake (Jacks seem to be in contact with him)
    Dennis Williamson 6'6 PF
    Chris Taylor 6'7 Wayzata
    Jimmie Johnson 6'9 C Andover
Elijah Blakesly 6'9 C Maple River

    Illinois
    AJ Mahar 6'8 Oakton CC
Isiah Martin 6'8 200 Morgan Park
    Ihsan Phillips 6'9 220
Matija Pojic 6'9 220 Highland CC
    Lucas Steijn 6'10 240
Marcus Van 6'7 225 Wabash CC
    Marquis Young 6'9 285 Highland

These are just  few young men out there. I know once you look at who else is recruiting them, grades, character and other intangibles the list becomes much shorter.

Dale Moss has been playing and playing well. He had 20 pts and 9 rebounds while leading BV over Sam Willard's Pierre team. Moss seems to be the real deal.

We need to find some 6'8" to 6'10"/225 to 250 lbs kids. We will not get it done with 6'6" and 6'7". But that being said it will take time to grow.

I agree. If your going to post what you overhear in a coaches office would be the quickest way to get yourself banned from the offices.

                        Brandon's Moss bounces back

For a guy who missed all but one practice leading up to the high school basketball season, Dale Moss sure had a productive weekend.

The Brandon Valley senior, fighting through a nagging ankle injury, sparked his team to impressive ESD road wins over Yankton and Pierre - racking up 37 points and 16 rebounds in the process.

Those efforts from the 6-foot-5 South Dakota State recruit should place the Lynx firmly atop this year's list of Class AA title contenders.

"We weren't sure he was going to be able to play," says Coach Brent Deckert of Moss, who twisted his left ankle during open gym about a week before practices started. "For him to come out and play like he did was pretty gutsy on his part."

Moss scored 17 points in Friday's 59-42 rout of the Bucks, in which Brandon Valley (2-0) shot 70 percent in the first half. He followed with 20 points in Saturday's 44-40 overtime win at Pierre.

Coming off a football season in which his receiving skills helped BV reach the 'AA' semifinals, Moss has a shot to send the Lynx to the basketball finals for the first time since 2003.

"When I first came to Brandon (in 2000), Dale was a tall, skinny sixth-grader who weighed about 80 pounds," recalls Deckert. "He didn't really start growing until between his freshman and sophomore years."

As a junior in 2005-06, Moss averaged 15.5 points and six rebounds as the Lynx took fourth place at the 'AA' tournament in Rapid City. . . . (read more)

When I spoke to Kai , he told me they were going to watch this kid play a high school basketball game, I think he meant he was going along with some of his teamates as well as the coaches..I think that is a very positive thing to do when you are trying to bond together as a young team.

This kid will be in Brookings on Thursday evening as his high school team plays against the Brookings Bobcats Thursday night. A lot of the SDSU players, coaches, & fans tend to show up and watch. We welcome Kai and his teammates to the high school game to watch their future teammate play.

Moss did indeed play tonight in Brookings, and played quite well I might add. He is a very athletic kid, and he also has a very nice looking shot. He handles the ball quite a bit for Brandon, but I look for him to help the Jacks playing on the wing. He doesn't look like a point gaurd, more of a slasher or get to the basket kind of guy. I was indeed impressed with him. He seems to really be improving each year, which will bode well for the Rabbits!!!
