I have sources that say Cassiday is going to push Williams for the 3 spot.  Moss and Sargent are the real deal also.  Unless something changes Casey will get a lot of time in practice and support from the bench.
I think Kai and Cassiday will both see time at the 3 and 4 next year. Kai is also available for the 2. He has the mobility to play there and can shoot from the outside. From the newspaper clippings about Cassiday, he likes to slash to the basket. Would love to see both of them on the wings on a fast break.

Here is what I would do....
      1. Callahan/ Palarca/ Casey
      2. Sargent/ Yackley (redshirt Moss)
      3. Williams/ Cassidy/ Yackley
      4. Beran/ Basset/ Cordova
      5. Berte/ Engan/ Cordova

The reason I would redshirt Moss is because he is a D-I athlete but I don't think he is a D-I basketball player yet and think a year of practice would help him alot. The reason I would start Sargent is because I think he is the best shooter on the team and would help avoid double teams of Kai.

As far as Nagy goes I think he needs to improve show that his recruits are for real and retain all of them. I think the deeper bench should help him alot... Landing a big name local recruit (Colton Iverson, Cody Schilling, Louie Krogrman) wouldn't hurt either.

This was posted on another thread, but it felt like it also should be here in Basketball land. I love that the team (for the most) is on campus this summer! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

            Freshmen starting school early
SDSU athletes taking advantage of new rule

Clint Sargent graduated from Sioux City's Bishop Heelan on May 20. Less than two weeks later, he was a student-athlete at South Dakota State.

Think the short turnaround was difficult for his mom? It was. And it's sometimes hard on him, too, usually when the phone rings.

"They go to the lake a lot," Sargent said of his summer-vacationing friends. "They'll call me and ask what I'm doing and I'm studying. It's the price you have to pay."

Or at least it's the price many are willing to pay.

Since 2001 in men's and women's basketball and 2005 in all sports, incoming freshmen have been eligible to receive athletic-based financial aid to take summer classes at NCAA Division I schools provided they take at least six credits, excluding physical education activity courses. The courses can't be used toward initial eligibility, either.

According to the NCAA Web site, the idea of the "summer bridge program" - which does not affect the number of semesters a student-athlete is allowed to be on athletic scholarship - is to help prospects get acclimated to the college environment and improve graduation rates.

SDSU has used the program since 2005, with a total of 11 incoming freshmen - in men's and women's basketball and volleyball - opting to participate this summer.

Although the effect on graduation rates can't be demonstrated this early in the program, Jackrabbits women's basketball coach Aaron Johnston believes there are three major benefits: earning college credits, getting a feel for the athletic dynamic and adjusting to being away from home. The summer bridge program doesn't necessarily eliminate those issues, but it allows student-athletes to experience them in smaller doses and before the traditional school year/season begins. . . .

"It was a no-brainer really," said Sargent's dad, Kevin. "He's getting some hours in, some credits in and getting up there to lift and get to know the players. It' s a good head start."

Although prevented by NCAA rules from having athletic-related contact with team coaches, incoming freshmen can work with strength coaches. Sargent said he lifts or does ploymetric or agility drills every day, in addition to participating in free play with the rest of his new teammates - and all but one of SDSU's returning players will be on campus this summer. . . . The entire roster is now posted. We look a little more like a complete DI basketball team now!

I'm curious... what's been the mindset on campus, now that Berte has been cleared and is back in school (and back on the team)?

From top to bottom, this is the best roster the Jacks have had in years. Lots of potential and, after next season, lots of scholarship flexibility for fresh recruits.

I heard a JUCO player has played with the team the last couple of nights. 6'1 or 6'2 guard. Anybody know anything ... if he was offered, signed, etc....

                                SDSU signs JUCO guard.

                                http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs...PORTS/70723035

Junior college shooting guard Aaron Wyatt has signed a letter of intent, rounding out South Dakota State’s roster for the 2007-08 men’s basketball season.

The 6-foot-4 Wyatt was one of six players to score in double figures for Cecil (Md.) Community College, averaging 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals a game as a sophomore. Wyatt helped the team to a 64-6 mark in two seasons, and he was a redshirt in 2005-06 when the Seahawks won the NJCAA Division II national title.
