Re: SDSU forward playing against the world (Kai)
NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Spain enjoyed an 83-69 triumph over Canada in their first match of the eighth-finals at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Novi Sad.
Xavi Forcada led the way for the victors with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Javier Vega contributed a valuable 16 points and eight rebounds and Victor Claver 15 points.
The North Americans had the game's top two scorers in Kai Williams and Devoe Joseph, who managed 21 points apiece, but to no avail.
Scott Brittain's early jump-shot gave Canada a 2-0 lead in the opening seconds but soon after that Forcada's three-pointer put Spain in the ascendancy and they never relinquished the lead.
The Spaniards stretched away to lead 21-16 at the end of the first quarter and then again to hold a 41-34 advantage at half-time.
Canada, despite the best efforts of Williams, Joseph and Jon House who poured in 10 points, could not find a way back into the game.
Spain pulled further away in the remainder of the match, and ended up comfortable winners.
SO ONTO THE NEXT GAME..........
