If there is any justice in the world, William Kyle should be Freshman of the Year.Last edited by bigticket1; 01-30-2023, 09:36 PM.

first team to very intentionally take advantage of Mim's size. in my mind, i would expect ndsu to use the same philosophy in the coming week

Wow. Super gutty win. Seven guys vs. 11, and the Jacks hang on to win. The Jacks played zone defense roughly half of the second half. They couldn't have practiced that much in advance, but it seemed to work pretty well. We really need Easley and Arians back for the stretch run and tourney, though. This space for lease.

but i also maintain that no other team has really made ANY effort to consistently take Mims into the lane and nobody has tried to post him up almost at all

IDK what their 3FG% is. it does not appear to me that either one is particularly excellent shooter, but they are big and physical and do a great job of getting in the paint and getting to the line. i agree with you they are an excellent pair of guards. probably one of the better PAIR in the league

that said it just seems like most teams are making very little effort to put a pretty undersized guard at a disadvantage by putting him in the lane
and while agreeing on the guards posting point, i literally am not sure i have seen it even ONCE this year
the jacks are truly rare in even trying to do this a little both MBB and WBB
WBB used to do it a lot not long ago. it was a regular part of the plan with Macy
they still try to utilize it with Timmer. i guess you would have to debate what position Tori plays but they do it a little with her
MBB tried it a bit with Baylor and some with AA, but yes! i agree with you it seems a weapon that is dying

Secondly, good win, tough stretch and we fought to get one. Rest up and let’s get ready to go again.
Third, I don’t like just putting Mayo in an ISO for the last 10 possessions of the game.
i agree with the idea it seems we are doing this a bit too often. for a program that has been TOTALLY built on ball movement, using ISO a lot seems to really kill ball and player movement
but i also think when we are doing it, we are not often enough using the best plan
i guess maybe you, or others, may not call it an ISO if you utilize a ball screen? but i think there is a difference between using the ball screen as a normal part of the offense as opposed to saying we are putting the ball in this guys hands and letting him make something happen and still using a ball screen as part of that
two things, i dont really think Zeke is that effective using ball screens, especially going from left to right, but either way he just does not come off the screen hard. usually when you are not going hard off the screen, it means you are trying to create a switch. maybe that is what Zeke or the coaches are looking for more than anythnng else??? IDK
but i feel like he could come over the screen harder more than he does and get into the lane. he has been better getting in the lane but he still spends a lot of time dribbling on the ark and using step backs to create 3pt attempts. getting in the lane puts the other defense under pressure and of course, DESPITE 3 misses tonight (NEVER thought i would see him miss 3 in one game), Zeke is one of the best FT shooters i have ever seen and it should really REALLY be a goal to try to get him to the line 10 times a game. maybe seems a lot but it is only about 5 fouls a game (you dont go to the line for EVERY foul)
anyway the first point is, i just dont think he is overly consistently using screens to the best effect
second, when we want a TOTAL ISO it is best to use the 4 low offense. the offense we used on the last possession when he got the final 2 FT
i am not a fan of running 4 low over and over, but it does make it harder to give help early, without just giving up a free player on offense. i feel like the times we have run 4 low with Zeke, he usually does get something good to happen

i did want to say, i thought B Lein played the best game he has played tonight. he looked much better on D and he was very engaged on the boards. had some excellent boxouts even when he did not get the board, but i think he also had 3 boards and a couple of them were very contested
also had a couple nice buckets. just looked more engaged the whole time he was on the floor today
not trying to say he was not engaged before!!!! maybe he is just getting things figured out. when you are feeling lost you would kinda look unengaged because you are trying to figure out what you are doing and pretty much always be a step behind
anyway thought it was good to see)!!

Zeke misses 3 (nearly unimaginable. only second time in his career with more than one miss in a game) and Mims (over 80% on season) and Mors (about 90% on season) both miss front ends of 1 and 1s. that is 7 points you would almost automatically put in the books. those things hurt a lot when you are down so many players and playing nothing but down to the wire games

when he hit that my immediate thought was, well this team deserved a break and they finally got one
about the time i ended that thought Allen hit the answer 3 for them and i thought so much for catching a freaking break!!((( Allen was 0 for 4 before that. and looked disgusting from 3. he and Mitchell were combined 2 of 13 on the night and really do not look good from that distance. so his 3 seemed just as much of an answered prayer as Mims banker
Mitchell has attempted over 210 3s on the year. for reference, Zeke might be at 170 after tonight depending on how fast they update stats.
very interesting that Mitchell can shoot that many 3s and is still leading the conference in FTs made. proves that Zeke should be able to get to the line more than he does, without taking much away from his 3pt game
