Way Too Early 2022-2023 Summit League Outlook

I imagine once the Jacks are done playing we will have a couple of players in the portal too. Not going to speculate, but thinks its obvious based on lack of playing time.

I would literally drive him to Muncie to get the deal done if need be but it won't happen. He is at NDSU for life. I don't get why people think keeping him around makes the Summit stronger, his teams stink up non-conference play every single year. He might be the most replaceable coach that has ever existed.

I'm surprised he doesn't get more blow back on how he goes at players during games. He went out and got Eady after the timeout late in the championship game and reamed him all the way to the bench, and ranted at everyone during the rest of the timeout. Same after you came back to send the WIU game in Fargo into overtime. They had the camera on the huddle and he spent the entire 3-4 minutes going off on the team. Didn't surprise me that WIU then went out and scored the first 10 or 11 points of the OT. Maybe the players see it as tough love and get to the point of ignoring it, but it's not a good look to people who don't watch many of your games.

NDSU back-up guard Willie Guy also hits the portal. That's 7 players off the roster. Basically Nelson, Morgan and Skunberg left as players that got significant minutes. Richman is going to have to do major work hitting the portal to try to field a competitive team.

OBVIOUSLY all these ndsu fellas hitting the portal means that they are not playing in any post season tourney. i think they have ALWAYS said no to the smaller ones. have they ever played in the NIT?

and does anyone know did they have an offer for the NIT this year?? i assume they had offers from other tournaments

I'll say this. For our league to get better all teams need to get better at retaining talent. Last year the league loses Umude and Rebraca. Seems like a mass exodus already this year. It's going to be tough for these teams to be competitive consistently if they have hitting the reset button year after year.

I won’t be surprised if several of the players in the portal are just exploring their options. USD players will have a new coaching staff that didn’t recruit them. I think it makes some sense to ask the new staff to sell them on their vision for the program, while keeping your options open.


NDSU is loosing three of the bigger pieces on their team with Rocky, Sam, and Eady. Won’t be surprised is some of those other players realize NDSU is still their best option.

Players like Guy won't see the floor even with the subtractions, they won't be back. Sam is gone obviously, I don't think Cook will have issues finding options as well. Maybe Hayes reconsiders but he was one of the guys that Richman kind of messed with the most in terms of role and minutes.

Don't disagree with any of this, constant flow of guys going into the portal and we get basically nothing back from the portal so maybe the word gets around. Like I said, if he left I would not care at all. I just don't think our program has a very high ceiling with Richman as coach, he has success but it is limited.

Seniors-to-be Sandage and Burrell from Western Illinois hit the portal. Which is odd since they still have a post season game coming up this weekend.
