they beat usd and the school fires coach lee who no matter how you slice it had his team overachieving this year
i am guessing the athletic department at ndsu continues to have their self esteem intact. all things considered they have done ok since moving to D1. i guess coach richman is probably safe, but....?????
Perhaps NDSU should have an esteem problem in comparing itself to SDSU. As others have pointed out on other sites, so far this school year SDSU is 10-0 against NDSU in team sports. That includes football, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Upcoming baseball and softball games could change the tally, but I like the Jacks' chances of staying ahead.

Woah! He'll be one of their better guys next year. Or will be.

What the H is going on in Fargo?

I know Bison fans seem to hate on Dave for some reason. But his teams always play well, and are always in the mix of things. 4 straight Summit League Championship game appearances.
                  Losing 3 seniors, I get.
MHH, don't know why he's transferring...but I get it. Jarius Cook was someone I thought could be really good for them in the future, with more opportunities?

If Dave leaves... (which I don't see...MAC schools see themselves as far superior to the Summit, although Ohio did hire Saul), going to get really interesting.

Especially with the turnover at USD. Bruns leaving UND. Wow.

Probably see SDSU is going to be to dominant in the conference so they are getting out. Or maybe they realized playing for a coach who goes ballistic during a game isnt fun to play for.....or some other reason.

I am pretty surprised with Hayes and Cook leaving!!! they seem the type of players who would move up and be the new Tyree Eady's and so on in a program that has shown the ability to be MORE than consistently good!!!

i would have thought with those 2 and nelson coming back, Richman maybe dips into the juco or transfer world and picks up another player ala Vinny S. and they are EASILY right at the top

i am REALLY surprised. but i wont be surprised if they STILL find a way to be at the top

WE DO NOT NEED Dave Richman leaving NDSU right now!!! we need this conference to have stability and get better!!! Losing a coach who had the year Lee had along with a 17 year veteran like Hanson at UNO is bad enough

UMKC has big losses to grad. ORU might lose Max, but i kind of have doubts

we dont need a bunch of player losses at usd and ndsu. i HATE usd and i will NEVER deny that and i will NEVER cheer for them to win a contest of anything

but we really dont need them and ndsu to take significant steps backward

I don't disagree with this sentiment at all. The Summit does need to get stronger. With that said, in the short-term view with this current group/era, the basketball ops should focus hard on scheduling a strong, difficult non-conf next year. This year's non-conf was not terrific scheduling. Take some bumps if needed early in the year with plans of snagging a couple big-time/ Quad 1 wins. Then go roll in the Summit against a weaker league if that's how it shakes out in 2023. Realistically right now our best option will be a 10-12 seed with a run to the Sweet 16. Long-term it would be wonderful to step into the shoes of a Murray State, Wichita State, etc.

I just don't want this group to miss any tournament opportunities, so if next year it still means getting in with a weak Summit League, then I'm probably cool with that.

totally agree it would be AWESOME if we could schedule several quad 1 games next year OOC!! that said-

i have FULL confidence that the powers that be did EVERYTHING they could this year to schedule a tough OOC. but i think other teams are smart too! they see that last year we played west virginia very tough!! we destroyed utah state!!! we beat Iowa St in ames and Bradley at bradley

they see we had the same team back

and i think we are going to have the same trouble next year. look at the horizon? does oakland want to play us?? IUPUI??? IPFW???? we know wright state is not playing us!!! the MVC? well missouri state has been willing to play us. thank them for that)) now we need to beat them but then they might not want to keep playing us

and obviously there is ZERO insentive for P5 schools to play us

anyway i have said most of this several times already. we are just in a weird place for scheduling purposes at the moment. i believe we will get through it

and actually i think the 11, 12, 13 seeds are really good spots. it is fine to play a 4 or 5 seed and then the other one to get to round of 16. it would be GREAT if we could not have to play in the other team backyard but we will overcome that too.

i am curious what would have to happen for us to get to play a first round game in omaha or KC or twin cities. that said i am not much for bracket pools so i have not looked yet. if we make sweet 16 where is the midwest regional location this year?

I would literally drive him to Muncie to get the deal done if need be but it won't happen. He is at NDSU for life. I don't get why people think keeping him around makes the Summit stronger, his teams stink up non-conference play every single year. He might be the most replaceable coach that has ever existed.
