This is probably a good time to put this here:
Our defense is historically bad. Literally all-time terrible. And the "to save Daum from foul trouble" excuse doesn't really do it for me. To implement a defense that you've never coached or played in your first year of coaching seems quite unadvisable. Does that mean we are going to run a full time, open 3 pointer zone for Daum's entire career here? Two more years after this? You're telling me Wallace, Howell, Flatten, King, Telly, Daum, Theisen can't play respectable man defense? Those guys aren't athletic enough or what? It doesn't matter if Daum plays the whole game if it means compromising the entire defense.
UNO - 11 3 pointers in the first half. How are we going to answer? More "effort". Hmm... Maybe we should try something other than the zone. Something like man-to-man defense.
Everyone go check out some of our stats here. Reminder, these stats are from before today's atrocity.

314 out of 351 teams in defensive efficiency.
351 out of 351 teams in opponent % of points from 3.
350 out of 351 teams in opponent points from 3.
351 out of 351 teams in opponent three point rate.
308 out of 351 teams in opponent second half points per game
There's nothing else to say about the defense. It is a failed operation.
Offensively, Nagy left the cupboard bare at guard. No getting around that. It hurts us a lot. I do think Wallace is playing well and is an asset. Flatten needs to somehow get more involved. He's too athletic to not be a focal point. The rotation thing that Otz does is kind of an annoyance. No El Darwich now and Howell all of a sudden? I don't really know who should play, but to sit someone for 8 games straight and then have them a huge part of the rotation and vice versa seems not ideal. At all.
Finally, it'd be nice if Daum could get fully faced up when he gets double teamed. He's long enough to hopefully get faced up and have slashing players that he can find.
I'm not trying to kill Otz here, but I'm just really at a loss with a lot of this. You just can't justify the persistence of the zone to me. Hope he gets it figured out with some of his own guys coming in and some more experience. He's a bright young coach and a good recruiter.
