SDSU is the underdog at +4.5. Money is on SDSU because the line moved down from +5. If Jacks win, you could make some good money on the moneyline at +175 (bet $100 to win $175).

I swear I saw the Jacks at -4.5 I must have read it wrong. If it was +4.5 then you are exactly right. And Vegas won again.

I kinda have to be the optimistic one. Most of the people on here would rather slash their wrists than support this team and coaching staff. I didn't realize so many alumni had the name Debbie Downer.

Being realistic isn't necessarily pessimistic although some seem to have gone a little overboard.

This team can't play zone defense. TJ needs to swallow his pride and go to man, start trying to win ugly. I know he doesn't want to do that but that's this team's only chance to compete. SDSU just doesn't have good enough players to win a high paced, athletic, offense driven game.

If for nothing but to allow us to string together a few wins so the pro-Miller crew who joined last April (you know who you are, you with 13 posts questioning SDSU fans commitment) will go away.

At least we beat the team that really mattered, used. We need to win that corn trophy.

If for nothing but to allow us to string together a few wins so the pro-Miller crew who joined last April (you know who you are, you with 13 posts questioning SDSU fans commitment) will go away.

That change would give some confidence to the coaching staff that they are capable to adjust. The square peg we have been banging into that round hole is not taking the shape as hoped. As always, we could be a couple of practices away from mastering the 1-3-1. I bumped into three people this morning and none of them saw the offense as the problem. The coaches might need to explain more clearly what they think the missed opportunities were in the ORU game.

I thought I would put this here. Yes, it is about Minnesota, but if you remember, the Gophers weren't too great last year and are all of a sudden a ranked team this year! It's amazing what can happen when one waits. I bet they wouldn't be where they are now if they got rid of the coach when things weren't looking good. Instead, the school and the fans waited and now have a great team. The point is, be patient; the team will get there.

While a great story for the Gophers, there are probably as many stories of a coach not getting it done in their initial years and being released from their duties. I hope by year three SDSU is competing, but there are some alarming things that keep me from having confidence in that happening, at least in my opinion. I think it is fair to give him 3 years, but I also think it is fair for fans to be critical getting to that point.

TJ knows far more about basketball than most of us fans. He certainly knows the skills and shortcomings of his players better than any of us. Considering he's only halfway through his first season with a team of mostly inherited players, he deserves some slack. The Jacks have been competitive in nearly every game. They're not too far from being undefeated in the conference. This isn't a dumpster fire like the early years of the transition. It's not even as bad as the lengthy transition struggles that teams such as USD suffered after coaching changes. That said, I'm going back into a corner to sulk and worry about whether the Jacks make the Summit tourney.

I'm fine giving him some time, but giving up 85+ a night while the same rotation is in, the same defense is playing, makes me question some things. I'm all about coaches being stubborn, I know I am as a coach, but sometimes you have to give up being stubborn and change a few things. I remember Nagy when they first started after some bad years, saying hey I got to quit being stubborn and win a few of these games.

Reading comments like this(not just yours the majority in the thread) that I've seen on here lately makes me doubt my stance on the multi-year contracts. I always (still do) thought that SDSU would always give a new coach a few years to get their system, players, etc.. I understand that there are a few things that make this different. It is one of the 3 main sports, we've won in the past and we hired this coach with a nice pay raise. We have struggled in volleyball and are finally starting to come around softball. These are some other sports that have struggled when the got a new coach. Of course both of those teams were struggling before the new staffs came in.
I'm really starting to doubt this season and I'm just hoping that we make the tournament but I have faith that there will be brighter days ahead(there have to be). I would like for the coach to try something different just for the sake of trying it. Like I've heard many times, what can it hurt.
P.S. I understand we are all fans so I'm fairly sure there isn't a chance that he will be fired. It would be interesting to see what some of us would actually do if we were in charge. I think most people would understand new coach, new players, new system, cupboard bare at the guard spot because of a leaving coach, not enough time to get good recruits in this season, etc..

I'm in the same boat as most by thinking that you've got to try something else, and at a minimum you have to acknowledge how bad the defense is. If you think we've almost got it down and it's going to get better, say that! Don't just dance around it by talking about our offense. I know that one of the big reasons he doesn't want to play man is because we aren't very deep with offensive threats and he wants to make sure to keep his best offensive players on the floor. At some point, you've got to take that chance and trust your players to play good defense without fouling so they can stay in the game.

It would not be terrible to admit you took a wrong turn and need to alter the map again to arrive at the destination. Staying on this trail could lead to a bridge out and then do we sit at the bridge waiting for the new bridge to be built? It makes one think that the season has been forfeited. It would seem unlikely next year's team will continue with the 1-3-1 as the new and improved athletes arrive. I am sure the team and coaches are as frustrated as the fans.

So the first six games when we played man to man we gave up on average 77.4 point per game. Here is are the last 15 games broken into 5 game segments:

Last 5- 85.8 ppg
Middle 5- 82.2 ppg
First 5- 63.6 ppg

So it looks like teams were initially surprised by the zone, and it was effective. However, over the last 10 games we are giving up 84 ppg. Sorry, but we are not going to win many games with that. Also, as to keeping Daum out of foul trouble the last 3 games he has gone 5,4,5 for fouls. Doesn't appear the zone is doing much with that either.

It's like the coach abandoned the man scheme after 6 games, but now with 10 straight putrid defensive efforts in zone he is not willing to reevaluate?? Makes no sense to me. Isn't there some chance that maybe the guys would have actually started playing better in man with continued work and game experience as well. I understand the premise of what he was trying to do, but the results say it isn't working. Teams are getting better and better at torching us, yet we are just hoping by doing the same thing and putting more effort on the offensive end this will change.... WHAT?! So please explain to me how playing at least some man to man to take teams out of their zone breaking rhythm is bad thing. Heck, do it when Daum is taking a rest if nothing else. I think we are looking at a clear case of Einstein's described insanity going on here.

I'm trying to imagine what kind of a kick in the n#$s it's going to be to the Summit League tournament when we don't qualify.

Just reading through Zimmer's tweets. They have 6 days off now and he says he'd be surprised if we went 100% zone after this break. Sure to hell hope he's right. If we continue this train wreck I may have to stop watching.
