Do we have pace of play numbers available? That also plays into PPG, which doesn't tell us much without knowing pace of play and PPS, etc. I'm terrible at finding that stuff.

I was listening to the Western Illinois announcer for pre-game of the away game there and he mentioned we were the worst ranked team in the country in % of points given up to 3 pointers. I certainly don't claim to know how useful of a statistic that is, but being the absolute worst team in the country at anything can't be good. I'm assuming that ranking hasn't improved with the results of the WI and Omaha game.

Does anyone think that expectation is way off?

we are a terrible defensive team....terrible. Our coach is an offensive coach. If you are only better at defense then 16 teams (citadel, Stetson, etc) there is a much bigger problem. We still have experienced players in transfers etc...not as good as Marshall, moffit, parks etc...but still experienced players. We rank 175th in experience out of 350.

coach will have to figure defense out. Him saying zone gives best chance to win is all about offensive reasons. We are better at defense than 16 teams. That's scary to think that in his opinion if we went to man to man every once in a while that he thinks that would be worse than ranked 333. And saying players aren't playing hard....that's on the coach too.

hes going to have time but if he doesn't start promoting defense we will be in for a very very long 3-4 years.
I like what this guy says. Except I don't think terrible is an adjective that adequately describes our defense. It's worse than terrible.

Even in the second half Saturday, we made a huge comeback but we still gave up 46 points. A few of those were garbage free throws down the stretch but not many.

In his defense, it's probably slightly better than postgame presser eye contact commentary, as it's at least BB-related

Another aspect of the game that I think is a trait of a good coach is the out of bounds play. When Nagy was here I was always interested in watching the picks/screens, off the ball movement to get an open shot off the out of bounds pass. Now we just throw the ball in with no off the ball movement. To me it just shows the lack of x and o knowledge by the coach to not come up with effective out of bounds plays. So if you call a timeout and set up a good out of bounds play and score, it can get the crowd into the game, stop the other teams momentum and set the tone until the next time out.

Offense isn't our problem. While we aren't outstanding, it is pretty good. The defensive efficiency numbers show that our defense is worse than I even expected. We can't be ranked in the 300s and expect to win anything.

Defense is the constant. When a team can't score, defense keeps a team in games. It isn't rocket surgery. It is effort and toughness. We have some athletic dudes. If they can't score, they should at least be able to lock down.

I didn't read most of this thread but I don't agree with anybody that thinks TJ should be fired. I don't think it has anything to do with the three year contract either. That sounds nice to potential candidates but if anybody knows anything about the program, they know things don't work that way around SDSU(or they haven't in the past).

I think that Gentry just didn't fit TJ's style for this season. Gentry (my opinion) is a much better floor general and shooter that El Darwich. But he isn't tall and long and that is what you need to play the 1-3-1 zone. I think that Nagy would have even turned to Layne S. to play some. I could see Dykman transferring. With the way the team is playing, if you don't get a chance to see the floor, you might want to go somewhere else to play. I hope I'm wrong but that might be the way it works out.

I don't really know if you can blame TJ for this years team. He didn't have very long to recruit the players he wanted to bring in. Nagy did leave the team shorthanded.
Does anybody know what is up with King? He starts all season and then doesn't play at all. I don't really know if I think he should start but he should be in there playing some. Maybe by February we will have a starting lineup and rotation figured out.
What I meant is that Parks, Marshall, Bittle, Devine, and Moffitt all left. Yes, Daum, Telly, and Theisen are back, but they're having to play roles that aren't necessarily familiar, and as TJ mentioned in the presser, Daum is being double and triple-teamed.

TJ also addressed King's status in the presser, saying it's not disciplinary. Coaches felt another player might be able to put up better offensive numbers against Omaha.
