Its also his natural position coming out of HS. The lineup will be tall!

Remember when Michael Loney was our center and tallest guy on the team at 6'6"?

      Man those days were fun!

Heemstra has some ability to handle the ball, has some moves to get shots, larson probably can bang around and work strong side or weak side. basically there are 2 post options that the team can use besides dykstra down low. Oakland would work on the side to benson, if he gets double teamed he would pass to a cutting Hudson, or if he misses there was a big on the weak side to rebound. I see some similarities that we can take advantage of like Oakland did in the post.

Not saying they cant run, but the advantage of being bigger can be exploited more if we arent trying to run with shorter teams who might have a quickness advantage if we are making 3 guys over 6'8 sprint the floor. when we go to a smaller line up i see speed and pushing the ball as a bigger advantage, Either way we should be able to control the pace of the game. They just need to practice patience on D with teams like NDSU and WIU trying to slow it down and limit possesions but the length and size we have should make that really hard for those teams IMO.

I think everyone in that lineup can run the floor but Heemstra hasn't even attempted a 3 in his three years.

but he has some range to take a jumpshot simmilar to Fiegen. We finally have size and I assume enough skill to use the post to our advantage, which in my mind would open the 3s for dksytra, white Carson, Broman, etc.

The question in that lineup will be whether or not Carlson can run the point (obviously) and can White and Dykstra can guard other teams' 2s and 3s. Chad is a decent defender, but when he has to run all over the court, he isn't as effective. Think of the title game last year down the stretch. If you watch the film, he's trying to chase Felt all around the court because Nate and Carlson are guarding Braun and Alexander. Throw Dykstra in to replace Nate in that matchup and it's not good for us. I think we'll start this with this lineup, but I'll be very surprised if this is the lineup that is consistently finishing games. I think Nagy will go based on matchup and many times we'll go with a 3rd guard with Dykstra sliding to the natural 4 and Larson or Heemstra at the 5 (my gut says Larson).

                Re: 2013-2014 Season

While it is entertaining to think about the potential size advantage the Jackrabbits will present, I do not think the speed will be as big of a problem as mentioned. If the article written on Severyn in the Pierre paper has some validity, the ability to keep fresh legs on the court will be a plus. The numbers of good athletes playing an uptempo game could wear on a slower deliberate offense such as Denver, WIU, and NDSU. There are a few 6'6" players and 6'5" players to back up the 2 & 3 spots and maybe a 6'10" if Devine is ready for post play. We might not see starters down to 20 minutes, but we could see starters with less than 30 minutes per game quite easily should the rotation allow for an uptempo game. First peek of this squad will be next Friday.

                  Re: 2013-2014 Season

One thing about Nagy is that he has had some fluid starting lineups during the first part of the season the last few years, he could very well having a rotating starting lineup through the first couple of weeks to find something that he ultimately likes (remember there was a time when monaghan and prince received starts basically just because). Essentially what I'm saying is this could be our first starting lineup just because he trusts and knows what he is getting from the seniors. I worry about the ball handling ability of this tall starting lineup. According to TV, Nagy said that Donlan might be our best player, which actually falls in line with all the high regards from quite a few of us on this board this off season. He also said that Devine improved the most this offseason which is probably why he is willing to put three big men on the court at the same time, knowing he can confidently put Devine in. Bittle is the kind of guy that will always play solid defense and score 8-10 pts a game. Broman is just too good of a shooter to not get playing time (possibly, maybe a darth bader type shooter?), and I think Severyn plays a lot like the man, the myth, the legend Griff Callahan....as of right now Severyn is a little more athletic than Griff, but lacks the consistency offensively. Also one last thing lets hope the scrimmage was a prelude to the season White is going to have (9- 3 pointers), if Chad can have a little more consistency game to game, our offense will be a lot more stable. It's going to be an interesting and fun season.

Agree with Dykstra getting worn down playing smaller, quicker threes. Trying to keep up with a Bader-type player that is constantly running through screens and going from side-to side on the floor would be hard on Jordan. Will work with teams that have bigger lineups with not as much speed and quickness like a Western Illinois type offensive scheme.

3 South Dakotan's, and two from Rock Valley, Ia, practically in SD.

Its not like he would play the 3 the whole game, franky I think you will see a rotation between those 3 in the 2 post spots and maybe assuming Devine is ready to contribute will get in there too.

I would be cautious about hearing about Donlan and Devine until we see it. We have heard that guys like Prince would be big parts of the team also but didnt always work out that way. I sure hope they are ready that would be great for us, but with Nagy i think we need to see it on the court before we can count on it happening. Frankly I think horstman needs more playing time, seems to athletic to sit on the bench. His freshman year essentially won the game at IUPUI for us i think if memory serves he hit a bunch of 3s.

Kind of a nice problem, debating how everyone who we think deserves playing time gets it... about as opposite as you can get to a few years ago...

It would be nice, but I'm kind of resigned to the fact that the chances of him getting hurt again are high....back problems suck and can be really nagging.

A bag of popcorn that says you are wrong. If he should have redshirted, one of the first 2 years would have been best for healing and conditioning. Zach has great shot and I am wagering that his defense is much improved now.

Make it caramel popcorn or no deal....I hope I'm wrong and you're right because I agree he has a nice touch and is a great athlete, plus it never hurts to have as many veterans as possible in the rotation.
