Yes the story has been out for a long time, as far back as when some posters on here saw Cody at a Jacks home game. Perhaps an official visit? Nagy said on Gojacks.com that he had watched Cody in high school a great deal and knows what he can contribute.

2007-08 (Freshman Season) Played one season at Marquette • averaged 1.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in 11 games as a freshman • missed much of his freshman season due to an isolated fibular collateral ligament sprain, which required surgery.
2008-09 (Sophomore Season) Played one season at Miami Dade College • transferred to Miami Dade from Marquette University • led Miami Dade to 26-3 record and the Southern Conference Championship • averaged 16.3 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks while shooting .610 from the field •named Southern Conference Player of the Year • named to the FCCAA All-State and All-Tournament teams.
2009-10 (Redshirt Season) Transfered to Minnesota and redshirted. (Mbakwe redshirted because he was facing fellony battery charges stemming from his time at Miami Dade CC. Legal troubles lasted a year and he avoided trial when he entered a pretrial program.)
2010-11 (Junior Season) Named Second Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media. (January 2011 - Received misdemeanor charges for allegedly violating a harassment restraining order obtained by a former girlfriend. He pleaded guilty in December of 2011 and received probation for a sentence.)
2011-12 (Medical Waiver Season) Suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the second half against Dayton (11/27) • underwent successful surgery on Dec. 30 • missed the remainder of the season. (Granted medical waiver after the season was over and just prior to the 2012-13 season.)
2012-13 (Senior Season) Named to the Preseason Lute Olson All-America Team • postseason awards include Third Team All-Big Ten by coaches and Second Team All-Big Ten by the media • named Second Team NABC All-District.
It is interesting to note the similarities of both players:
Both linked to 3 collegiate teams: Mbakwe (Marquette, Miami Dade CC, Minnesota) Larson (Iowa, Florida, SDSU)
Both faced legal issues.
Both had significant injuries that limited their playing careers.
Both are power forwards of similar height - Mbakwe 6'8", Larson 6'9"
Final notes on Mbakwe - while he faced many hurdles of injury and legal trouble, he was able to get his undergraduate degree. He was even named to the BIG10 All-Accademic team while pursuing his masters degree in Applied Kinesiology. While he never led his team to a championship nor ever earned a 1st team All-BIG10 honor, he had a very successful career. I think Larson has the same potential. If we can get 2 years of play out of him, I believe he could play a major role on another run to the Big Dance while turning the corner on his troubled legal past!

The board's substantiation rule applies to current athletes. Posters were free to speculate on Cody and many did so.

This might have been posted already but it sums up how I feel. He is definitely worth the risk but I have reason to be skeptical. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-...medium=twitter

Re: Cody Larson to SDSU
I guess I am not as concerned as most of the posters here. The reward outweighs the risk tenfold. In fact, I don't see that big of a risk. If he screws up, wrecks teams continuity, he's gone and I feel they would know before basketball season if he won't be a risk which I don't think he will be.
Based on the latest article in the Argus, it sounds like he just wants to be a college student and play basketball. http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs...=2013305220032"This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time." -Tyler Durden

Re: Cody Larson to SDSU
I'm excited that Cody Larson has decided to enroll at SDSU. Has he had some pretty serious issues in the past? Yes he has. Has he paid a price for them? I think so. Does he deserve another chance? I think everyone does. Not because he is looking at SDSU but that is just my belief. Furthermore, my belief and confidence in Coach Nagy to do his due diligence when considering to add Cody Larson to the team is very high. Coach has proven time and again what kind of a quality man he is and we are lucky to have him as our head coach. No doubt there have been serious talks about Cody's past and a path laid out for what would be expected in the future.
Ultimately, judgement will rest on how Cody behaves while at SDSU. That is more important than what his production is in the end. Will he take this chance seriously and make the most of it? If Coach Nagy believes he will it is good enough for me. Will it work out? Only time will tell.
I remember when Coach Osborne gave Lawrence Phillips a chance to come back after a far more serious set of circumstances. It was very easy to criticize the decision and everyone did. Obviously, things didn't turn out well. Phillips chose to continue down an awful path. But, after reading Tom Osborne's book where he detailed why he did it and the process that he went through to get Phillips another chance, I had even more respect for the Dr. Tom.
I have a similar respect and faith in Coach Nagy for being a man of solid faith and having the best interest in the athletes and the university in his mind at all times.
We have been so lucky here at SDSU on so many fronts to have the wonderful school, students, athletes, and coaching staff that we do. They really do things the right way and that comes through loud and clear. That foundation was laid down many, many years ago and is very refreshing in an era where it seems like every day we open the newspaper to another on-campus scandal around the country.
Always proud to be a Jackrabbit and that gets stronger every year.
With that, I'm off rant.
Welcome to SDSU Cody Larson! I hope it is a great situation for you! You have made a wise decision to come under the wing of Coach Nagy and the rest of the team. Best of luck and we all hope to see you on the court wearing the Yellow and the Blue! And sure, I hope you have great success on the court. Who doesn't like a happy ending?
SUPERBUNNYMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, BIZUN!!!
