    Re: Cody Larson to SDSU

I'm thrilled that Cody will be a Jackrabbit. His size and ability will be a big plus for a good but thin front line. The fact that he sat out last year, by choice, would seem to enhance his chances of being able to play immediately. Having him around for a season or two after next year would be welcome, too. Welcome, Cody.

Actually, the story has been out for a few weeks-- just not confirmed for publication.

There is none. It seems to be completely discretionary. No one can predict. I don't have a source anonymous or otherwise with the NCAA. Anyone else?

Publication? Really. It may be time to consider a rival forum. Of course, I kid, maybe....

There is a lot of info out there that isn't posted here because of the forum policies. I'm okay with that. Others seem to be okay with that......for now.

I hope he gets his life straightened out...if he hasn't already. If he can make a contribution, and I think he will, on the basketball court-even better. Good luck Cody and GO JACKS!

I'm not going to get my expectations out of control as I feel some will. Everyone looks good at practice, but ask any player and actual game experience is a pretty big deal when it comes to development of a player.

Read what I said, he is worth the risk. The size with athleticism isn't seen much in the Summit League, but again not playing most of his senior year, freshman year, and this year, and playing little his red-shirt freshman year worries me. It wasn't as if he was lighting it up either that year either.

AAU may be where it is, but so is college, and playing few minutes the last 3 years worry me, more then not playing his senior year, that is just added.

Just so you know (not that it makes any difference) Cody played most of his senior year in HS. He was taken off the team very close to districts.

You do understand what the word Red-shirt means? Care to share which athletes led the nation in scoring their red-shirt year?

At the very least, he's a heckuva guy to have on the practice squad.

Joe is right on this one. After you red shirt, you play your first season as a red shirt freshman. Look at this years roster - Connor Devine (who didn't play) is listed as a freshman and Cory Jacobson (who did play)is a red-shirt freshman

Poor word choice by me. I meant that it was being discussed by many but there was nothing concrete. The NDSU poster simply repeated what was rumor at the time...it was a wide spread and oft repeated rumor and my guess is most who frequent this board had heard the same stuff.

The board's substantiation rule applies to current athletes. Posters were free to speculate on Cody and many did so.

I was pleased to hear and read the formal announcement and the comments by Nagy.

                              Re: Cody Larson to SDSU

I actually had it the other way and then changed it. I look at it as true-freshman (year you red-shirt) and then red-shirt freshman and red-shirt sophomore year, etc. if you utilize a red-shirt. or 3rd year sophomore, depending on the program.

I didn't look good in practice either (or in games). But its that whole argument that the less eyes there are on a guy (no matter what the sport), the better they look. Now yes some will come on and explain that Tebow or so is better in games, etc. But what I'm getting at, is telling me he looks good in practice isn't going to sell me one way or another in how he will look next year. I do think he is worth the risk, but I'm not sold that he will be a 1st team un-stoppable player.

The NCAA though, is a who knows of who knows. If I had to guess I'd say 50-50 maybe even 75-25 he is allowed to play next year (going closer to home, to a much smaller conference helps matters). The 6th year I would put at much lower odds though 10-25% (getting into trouble, completely sitting out this year, no real injury history, etc.) But if I had the time I could find similar situations and find cases where they are granted and not granted, its tough to get a pulse on the NCAA on any situation especially when it comes to this issue.

BINGO, and in individual cases, its hard to rule on a given athlete unless they are enrolled in a given institution. To blankly state Athlete A has three years of eligibility left opens a bidding war amongst institutions. Maybe the NCAA has too many rules. IDK.
