That is my view, but if he is going to leave a place like SDSU after being there as long as he has, wouldn't leaving after 2 straight NCAA tournaments and your top player you've ever coached leaving be the perfect time to leave?

Dane Fife has withdrawn it is believed to be that he was on of at least 4 finalist for the job, another one is Eastern Kentucky coach Jeff Naubauer

From there it gets sketchy, I'll try to see what I can figure out.

Could be a sign that Dwayne Stephens is leaving and Fife was told by Izzo that he will be moving up the ladder on his staff.

          Per T.V. Nagy is staying.

Some friends and I have discussed this a few times now. As semi-outsiders (none of us really being SDSU fans in particular or anything, just fans of basketball in this region in general), we more or less came to the same conclusion you've posted here. If there is going to be any program drop-off with Wolters moving on--and the Summit League growing increasingly competitive--this gives both sides a chance to "rebuild" with an excuse for that drop-off. And if there is no drop-off, even better for the Jacks and whoever the new coach might be.

Or maybe Nagy will stick around and continue winning with the Jacks' returning/incoming talent. It would just seem like a decent time for both sides if they did decide to part ways.

Guess I took a little too long to hit "Post Reply." I probably wouldn't have posted what I just did if I'd seen this first. Oh well.

Re: Ball State Interested in Scott Nagy

Nagy saying he is no longer a candidate at Ball State. I was hearing conflicting reports he was asked for a second interview.

Hearing also that Dane Fife was never a serious candidate, and he withdrew his name to save face, which is odd to say the least. Was hearing rumblings that boosters didn't want an Indiana Hoosier on their sidelines.

Re: Ball State Interested in Scott Nagy

Granted we have never had the degree of talent that we had in Nate Wolters - Coach Nagy has always been able to overcome losing a great player by assembling a great team to handle it. I'm encourage by some of the pieces we have in place and I believe that we will operate MUCH better than people expect next year, with the target off OUR back and attached firmly elsewhere. Great news that Coach Nagy will remain a Jackrabbit.

Let's hope that SDSU has created a bit more comfort for Coach Nagy monetarily so he does not feel the need to look at every job in order to be compensated fairly. The article this past season giving value of coach to the salary should have been more than adequate to draw attention to SDSU for the wrong reasons.

No doubt SDSU needs to up their coaches salaries, at the same time my guess is Nagy takes any interview that gets him closer to his home and raises his pay. Whether he would take the job I think is a different situation.

If you consider the bonus available, Coach Nagy is only second from the bottom. $1025 other pay plus a $17,000 maximum bonus keeps him one notch from the bottom of that list. If any basketball fans had a slight desire to give to the SDSU Foundation, this may be some incentive. Go Jacks!!

A bit misleading, but the general point is there. There is no way Mike Brey is #41, but I'm sure he is listed there because ND does not share the salaries of their coaches.

I'd like to see the full list of Division 1 coaches. Where does Nagy rank in the Summit?

My guess is from reports and memory is

                              Joe Scott- highest
                              Kampe- next
Nagy/Phillips= I think Nagy's salary is higher but Saul gets more when media deal and bonuses
                              Molinari/Boots- over $100K less then $150K
IUPUI/IPFW/UNO- no real clue on those there

In the interest of stirring the pot on this issue, while distracting from the other controversial issue, I suggest everyone be prepared for Coach Nagy to continue to consider offers. He interviewed for the Ball State position because he was considering it. I think and I've heard that he was very seriously considering making the move.

I feel pretty certain the powers that be at SDSU are and were ready to make some contacts with potential replacements. It's not Coach Nagy Univeristy, its South Dakota State University. Coach Nagy is the coach of the Jackrabbit men's basketball team for another year. I think that is a good thing.
