Still hurting over the loss to Michigan? Tune in to the UM/VCU game on CBS right now for some perspective. Michigan leads VCU (and their vaunted "havoc" defense) 38-23 at the half. Burke already has 11 points. You may recall that we held them to 30 points at the half and Burke managed only six points for the entire game. There's some insight about the Jacks and (particularly) Wolters' defensive effort to be gained there.

All the publicity and exposure that the Jacks got on the national level from many of the experts picking the game as an upset special was great , but looking back it probably hurt our chances to win the game. I'm sure Michigan was sick of hearing about the Jacks and Nate for almost a week , and were determined to be sure that it wasn't going to happen in their backyard. It's better to be in the situation like the Florida Gulf Coast team, being a #15 seed given almost no chance to beat #2 Georgetown and coming in loose and with no pressure or expectations , similiar to our Baylor game last year.

Mitch Albom's article in the Detroit Free Press really pissed me off this morning. He was quite negative on Wolters but hardly a word negative on Burke. I gave a response back,(fwiw) he was negative about competition Wolters faced in Summit League. Typical big city crap, small town, small league just can't measure up.

Can you link the column? I'd like to read it and then blast this idiot for his lack of sense. Thanks.

Nate for the first time in a long time look exhausted. I think part of that was being given the challenge to defend Burke as good as any player has this season. Might be part of the reason why people didn't think he couldn't defend was because Nagy has said he hasn't held Nate as accountable as he should on the defensive end even though Nate has defended well in games.

In the first half, Nate had about 3 threes that looked good that just rimmed out. If he hits those Nate gets his offensive flow going and I think Jacks win. Also, the Jacks needed about 15 from White and got 2. I think that was the key to the game. Carlson played huge in the first and Wolters did things in other aspects in the game than just score to help the team.

Also, if you think about Burke and Nate aren't that much different. Both were severely underrated as Nate was attracting and thinking about D2 schools and Trey Burke was rated as the 26th best pg in his class coming out of high school. Both were shunned by their "hometown" schools as Burke was from Columbus and was not even recruited by Ohio State and Nate was from St. Cloud and was not even given a sniff at by Minnesota and both are looking like potential NBA drafts. Have nothing but respect for both of them and wish them well in the "league"

This is the look of a guy who gave it all in a game and a season. The final game of his career and really the first time all season he look exhausted. I met Nate's parents yesterday at Hoops and thanked his mom for sharing her son with us for the last four years. My 12 yr old son Wesley even asked Nate's dad if he could have his picture taken with him and is bragging about it today. Words can't describe the pleasure it was to watch Nate play and I will always be grateful to him for letting me listen and watch him do his magic as a Jackrabbit.

Sturgis, I cant agree more. Nates parents are as humble as Nate is. We are truly blessed to have kids like Nate and Tony at SDSU. Its tough to lose, but we can be proud of the kids wearing our colors..........not all colleges can say that.

PS: I introduced myself to Nates dad. A half hour later I talked to him again. He remembered my name. That the kids we recruit. Be proud.......its rare.

I think in many ways that Nate may have actually helped his status as a prospect at the next level last night with his defensive effort. He really was tough on Burke and took him out of his game. From what I have heard or read the knock on Nate at the next level has to do with his defensive skills. He showed last night against the NCAA Player of the Year that he can falt-out defend. That will get noticed. His offensive stats speak for themselves and there is plenty of film out there of him scoring against top talent. He put on a defensive clinic last night.

Mitch Albom knows nothing about sports although he calls himself a sports
columnist. He's a blowhard, I'm right your wrong type. I dont read his columns and when his radio show comes on I turn off it off. He probably never heard of the Summit till this week.

Biased view but it looked like Wolters got hacked on 2-3 drives to the basket and nothing was called. If he gets calls and makes 4-6fts...maybe he gets going.

Agree with all of this. Nate's defensive effort was spectacular. If anyone thinks he's too slow, they don't know what they're talking about.

I'm thinking their plan was to stop Nate and Tony also,just based on their coaches assessment of the team in the pre-game.He seemed impressed with Tony also,on the number of makes he saw from him for 2 ptrs in the tape he reviewed.They (our Rabbits) played hard and represented the school best they could,that's good enough for me,I'm proud of our guy's,hold your heads up and feel appreciated for all the hard work you've put into the program .thank you.
