I would say so, perhaps a match for Bjorkland next year. No more 7 for 7 from the paint.

I don't think a slow, overweight guy fits into Nagy's game plan at all, not even a little bit. I can't think a of a plodder he has had since the "vanilla gorilla". Anybody know to whom I am referring? It is a term of endearment and by no way meant to indicate that he wasn't a great player or overweight. Just not "fleet of foot".

Considering the Jacks, as a team, average a total of 2 blocks a game and that no one on the team averages a full block per game, I'd say that eight blocks per game, even though it's at the high school level, is pretty darn good. Jordan currently leads the Jacks with a 0.6 average.

You got it. Loved that guy. Worked hard, great personality, too bad he had bad feet.

But had rather good hands around the basket, would get butter fingers if he was to far away, but if he was on the low block he was pretty good.

Since this thread mentioned something about shot blockers, I would like to see a cowboy cody type again. A guy who has the jumps and just goes for dunks and rebounds and to swat a blocked shot to the 5th row. not sure how many he had a game but it sure seemed like he did that atleast 1 or 2 times agame off the bench. plust the knee high socks was a pretty good look for him too.

My favorite story about Cervany was after the loss to metro state(when Schantz was fouled on the last second play on a layup attempt that the refs didnt call), that game. Afterwards we went back to the Berg apartments and to celebrate Josh was their and a friend who was an athletic trainer, we drank some beers, complained about the game how the refs missed an obvious call, we were playing grand turismo and we were getting hungry, since we were poor college kids didnt have a fridge full of food but my roommate left for the weekend for guard duty left a full box of taqitos in the freezer, which we helped ourselves too. when he came back the next week and saw they were gone he was not happy to say the least, untill we explained josh cervany was hungry then he was like, oh, thats cool then. now that I tell it, this story kind of sucks.

I remember the time I saw Cerveny pull up to Pierson Hall in a Toyota Tercel. Not sure how he got into that thing.

Speaking of Cerveny, I always recall a game at Morningside, were we were not playing good. Cerveny was recouping from an injury and in street clothes but sitting on the bench. Nagy was reallly pissed for some reason, and was chewing on the starters, right in front of us fans. I will never ever forget the s*it eating grin on Cerveny face as he looked up at the fans. In body language he seemed to be saying:"Boy I glad I am not playing in this game".

Wasn't following the Jacks when Cerveny was playing, but looked up the 00-01 team totals on the NCC website. That team had 10 players averaging 13+ minutes a game. Remember Nagy's comments during transition that his best teams would have won about 17 games, so I know the present team is a lot better, but why does playing DI mean you can't go deeper into the bench??

"One time I was with Cervany in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Josh goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm Josh Cervany! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'joshcervany' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!

He did 3 tours in 'Nam...... I was in Corpus Christi on business a month ago. I had this eight foot tall Asian waiter, which made me curious. I asked him his name. Sure enough it's Ho Tran Cervany!"

Coach has to feel like the players can contribute meaningful minutes. I'm not arguing that the bench is too short, it sure seems like it is. My one major criticism of Nagy if I was in any position to be critical would be his failure to develop his bench players this year. I think it is a clear reason for a couple of the losses and certainly remains a potential weakness for the tourney. I think Marcus and Zach have done an adequate if not more than adequate job when asked to spell that starters. Prince has struggled mightily at times for multiple reasons including injury and he played his way out of the line-up. Bittle's injury shut him down right at a time when Bittle was gaining confidence and earning Nagy's trust.

I know Coach Nagy wishes he had a more experienced and game tested bench. The Jackrabbits don't have that right now, doesn't mean they weren't intending to.

Amazing that 00=01 team averaged 87 points while giving up 74+. The game at all levels has been slowing down since the 90's.
