  • Re: NDSU

Congrats to the Jacks on a big second half. A loss would have been very bad for them. They did what they had to.

I was hoping for a W for my guys today, figured it'd be tough without Braun. Really hurt to lose Tray at the end of the game. Hope to see you guys in the tourney!

Announced a sell out at 6063. Will probably be the same on Thursday. You making your way up?

Couldn't believe my eyes in the second half when they had Wright guarding Nate and switched Brown over to Dykstra. Not sure if it was because Brown had 4 fouls or if they thought he couldn't stay with Nate. Wish the Jacks would have tried harder to clear out underneath and let Jordan post Brown up. They tried it once or twice but the middle was too clogged up for it to work.

Just my pessimistic opinion, but unless Zastrow is guarding Dykstra, Dykstra needs to play facing the basket. I would rather have him shooting over Brown than trying to make any kind of post move.

Was a fun game. At the end of the first half it felt like so many other XDSU rivalry games in recent history. Glad the Rabbits could win.

Today was a good day. Fun game. Great time afterward meeting and having a beer (or three) at a party hosted by the Turton Jackrabbit Club. Drive home. Take nap. Read message board. Now, getting ready to watch the game again on DVR!

Wright's dunk early in the game was a fantastic, one-handed, flying slam...a real thing of beauty. The guy should shoot more from outside, too.

It was noted by another poster that Wright plays well against the Jacks. Felt also had a nice game against the Jacks. He was shooting better than I've seen him shoot and it was fortunate he cooled off in the second half.

In the first half, the refs made it clear they were going to allow the game to be physical. NDSU ratcheted up the defense and took advantage of the situation. The only question is why didn't the Jacks adjust accordingly and play tighter, more touching, a little rougher? The refs were calling an even game but allowing more contact. In many games, the same play by Wolters would have put him on the line many times but not in this game. Credit NDSU for taking advantage of that.

Well, the teams weren't the only parties making half-time adjustments. The refs came out in the second half calling the game differently but this time, NDSU failed to adjust. So, more fouls were called on them in the second half. SDSU tightened up its defense but did so just the right amount. NDSU cooled off on its shooting and we improved our percentages. The Jacks found a rhythm in the second half.

Not sure why Wright wanted to slam the ball late in the game but something happened just before the shot...something about the way he planted his foot. I'm going to watch the shot again on the DVR in a few minutes. I hope Wright can bounce back. He's a real competitor.

Post game interview with Coach Phillips is posted now by TV.

Phillips said Wright's ankle will be xrayed...says he rolled his ankle on his way up to dunk.

Bjorklund and Felt are the athletes interviewed.

6,063 in the stands...I think we can put another 500 in the place if G.A. seating squeezed together and the few empty seats here and there were filled. My guess is there were about 100 or so NDSU fans in the stands. Now, if the same number of Jackrabbit fans show up for Thursday's game and a reasonable number of USD fans show up, the fire marshall may have the deciding vote on attendance.

I'm watching the replay of the game (yeah, I know: get a life) and watching it for the second time, it seems we played the first half a little better than I had remembered. We were not aggressive as we could have been on defense. But, we weren't playing badly. NDSU was playing very well in the first half. The refs clearly showed they were going to let the teams play and we didn't respond. Some of what I thought were fouls when I was at the game, while watching the replay, I had to conclude many were good "no-calls" by the refs. I can see some refs calling the fouls but I tend to like how the refs called this game.

Oh, and Wright's slam in the early part of the game is just as impressive on the replay.

At no time did the Jacks look rattled.

I thought all the "no-calls" in the first half were good "no-calls" except maybe one. I got read tired of the crowd groaning after every no call....maybe I'm too objective and not enough fan I guess.

I would like to see the replay on Wright's dunkeroo.
