    Re: Minnesota

IDK, I remember similar things being said last year, (though the game was much closer) about the team being scared, and not ready and Nate is all what the team has, and others shouldn't be seeing the floor, etc. I remember people wondering if they would be .500 in the Summit after the loss to UND and then things began to click. Everyone is kinda in a new role this year, and I think its just taking a little while to get everything figured out. They do need to fix somethings but I'm not ready to quit on the team yet. They did take Alabama to the wire, and lost a close game to (at the time of the game) solid Hofstra game. They struggle some nights, and haven't played a complete game, but its still very early.

      Re: Minnesota

I was there, it was terrible, I'll be brief.

I don't think Nagy is getting 100% effort out of these guys and I don't know who shoulders the blame for that. I thought Heemstra and Fiegen played hard the whole time they were on the floor. The Gophs were not defending perimeter shots much and the Jacks couldn't hit even the most open shots, thats tough when the other team is more talented and giving a greater effort. Gophers could have defeated the Jacks by 40 easily.

So, I know Nagy says the players have to decide to play hard all the time if this team is going to succeed. I say Nagy is responsible to coach the players in a fashion that results in them wanting to give 100% all the time in every facet of the game. This team will need to improve their effort if they want to return to the top of the Summit and compete for a NCAA tourney bid.

I think it might be time to insert Jacobson into the starting lineup and have some of veterans who aren't putting forth the effort watch for a while. I thought it worked well when Tivis got a few starts a couple years back, and Tivis didn't have near the talent as Jacobson.

Oooo Bold Kemo, Bold. Well now would be a good time with Dakota state and Cal bakersfield. Cuz that really tough road trip will be right around the corner for them.

There's a lot of time left to get it figured out, but tons of improvement is needed. Nate is a once in a generation player for State and if he has no one around him playing consistently EVERY NIGHT they won't do anything that actually matters. There is zero depth on this team and that's a major problem. The team needs a couple other guys to step up and it's not happening.

Touch night for the Jacks. The Gophers are an excellent team. My concern is did we just see into the future and see what the Jacks will look like post Nate Wolters? Dakota State comes up at the right time. Let Nate and Prince rest and than comes the time to really get after it.

I was thinking the same thing. To bad monagahn left he would probably be seeing some good minutes this year. Let jacobson get some experience and challenge the starters.

Monagahn is the leading scorer and assist man for mankato who is 5-0 this year. Has 33 assists to 5 turnovers which is almost a 7:1 ratio.. I was bummed when I heard he transferred.

Would he have though? Wolters plays a lot and I don't know if Monaghan would have got more minutes than year. When I saw him last year, he didn't ever jump off the screen like Nate or Dykstra their freshmen years. Bittle has more potential I think. Would have been good depth though

I think he fit the system well seemed like he got along with everyone and was a team player. I really though he would have had a decent career here and then could have played and allowed bittle to redshirt. In sports your always in injury or opertunity away from getting more minutes bigger role etc. Play behind nate one more year and this sdsu team has a lot of question marks about it and monaghan would have been in the mix for sure. 2 years experience learning the system. I felt both zachs would have really come on strong their junior years.

I would guess that his brother being an assistant coach there was just as much a factor as was playing time.

I really like Bittle's potential. Think about the great experience he is getting. He had a couple of rough moments against Minnesota, but he's a freshman... and it was against Minnesota. He seems like a really tough kid. He is already a good defender. And he's playing behind the best player ever to wear yellow and blue. I'm guessing he'll learn a few things this year. One of the fun things about being a fan of a program like ours that develops players rather than loading up on jucos or transfers is watching those young players get more and more comfortable. I expect big things from Bittle as he continues to develop. Should be fun to watch.
                                Holy nutmeg!
