Sometimes you will see teams bring in JUCO players with just 1 year of experience so they come in as sophomores. They are harder to find though.

Zach is surprising, but probably saw the writing on the wall with Bittle coming in. That's the life of D-1 when you can get out recruited and lose playing time. Great kid though.Disclaimer: This post may contain assumptions and/or opinions related to Jackrabbit Athletics.

Agree with those who say Zach M probably saw the writing on the wall with the Bittle signing. Too bad, I concur with alot of people that he seems like a great teammate.
Nagy only played 6 players some game this year... next year... arguably we'll see some more rotations... Probably Heemstra, Prince, and Horstman as the top 3 off the bench.
Also, noticed that when Nate got in some foul trouble and had to sit out... if it was a tight/meaningful game... Carlson took over the point and Zach M. stayed seated. Just saying he's probably got a better chance to play somewhere else.

Re: 4 players leaving...
I know they'd love to find a JUCO big man, a true 5 who's ready to play. The problem is there aren't a lot of good JUCO bigs, that level is dominated at times by guards who are trying to put up numbers and earn scholarships. Even though teams may roster physically big kids they don't get the experience at that level to either develop or show their ability. I know they're looking...the couple extra scholarships won't hurt that effort.

Nagy talked about this on that internet sports show; said that a lot of mid majors will have good 2-3 year runs, but the quality of their recruits starts to drop off when kids know they won't get minutes right off the bat.

Re: 4 players leaving...
From the Argus Leader:
About Monaghan: “That one bothered me the most,” Nagy said. “That one was not mutual. He wanted to go someplace else. He felt like it was in his best interest.”
All four are expected to try to continue their careers elsewhere. That leaves SDSU with three scholarship openings going forward, factoring in two prior commitments for 2012-13. Nagy said he’d like to fill at least one of those and hold one for the future in order to balance our classes."Tell the truth and pay your bills and you don't have to back down from anyone"--My Dad
