There is a big man and a wing that are now searching for a new home after being released from their LOI at Nebraska.

With 3 remaining open you have a significant chance to add players to help now (example - the Nebraska signees).. and also build future with a DI transfer - like Oakland seems to do annually.... Maybe 2 for next year, one transfer. Noticed Drake has one leaving too - press releases everywhere..

Sounds like they will probably hold one over for the 2013 class. which has 2 instate targets, and I think 5 offers out total as well as 2-3 that they have shown strong interest in. They will actively recruit 1 and then 1 will be a wait and see type of thing.

Three of the four were basically practice players, with Francis being a fence-sitter. I think Monaghan saw Wolters playing 36-40 minutes a game next year, and a freshman point guard in Bittle being recruited right behind him, and decided he wanted to go somewhere he could get playing time. Nagy's remarks, however, do make me think they would have liked to keep him on the squad. He is a good young man and I join everybody else in wishing him the best in his bb career.

They can't ever get any depth! Bittle obviously can't redshirt this year now that Zach is gone unless they bring in another guard.

I think there is still a chance Bittle could redshirt if the coaching staff believes Brayden can handle spot duty at the PG position (which he did this season even with Monaghan available).

Depth-wise we should be fine, as I assume there will be a JuCo/immediately-eligible transfer brought in as well as an increase in minutes from Prince, Heemstra, and Horstman.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

Immediately-eligible transfer really does not exist any more for SDSU. D1 to D1 usually means sitting out a year. Of course there are exceptions. USD even though in the last year of transition had a guy from K-state who had to sit this year. Not trying to pick a fight here, but I suspect you meant JUCO's in your terminology.

there are a handful, but I know what you are saying, the NCAA does have the same rule about graduating early/transferring in basketball as it does in football, but generally in football its a QB because you only use 1 of them, in basketball most transfers are not players with 1 year left, and those who only have 1 year left are usually transferring for a reason. The NCAA has also really tightened down on the health of a family member transfer rule as well, turning down many.

I think with Monaghan leaving SDSU will really try to make a play at Lockett (just as every other school in a 1000 mile radius of Minneapolis will)

I said something about developing a walk-on program on how it helps with the best kids because you can red-shirt them if needed. I thought both Zach's should have been redshirted but they were needed early in the non-conference schedule, with injuries and X amount of games in X amount of days you can't go on the road with 8 guys if you don't have to.

Nagy talked about this on that internet sports show; said that a lot of mid majors will have good 2-3 year runs, but the quality of their recruits starts to drop off when kids know they won't get minutes right off the bat.
Why do we have to automatically expect veteran players to get minutes when teams are good? I would like to see the best players play regardless of experience. From what we did get to see of Zach this year, did anyone really want Carlson playing PG rather than Zach? Granted we are only talking about a few minutes a game but I was very nervous when Carlson tried to play the point.

Maybe Zach wasn't happy about loosing a year of eligibility on mop up duty and could see that next year wouldn't be any different.

I suspect the Jacks will emerge from this stronger than ever, player-wise. It's always nice to have an extra scholarship in your back pocket for a stud who might unexpectly become available.

When there is a coaching change as there is in Nebraska,I'm not sure if those recruits would be eligible right away at another school. Since the school released them this early,I think they might be able to play right away.

I think defense was a reason Zach wasn't playing later in the year. Also Nagy, like every coach likes to shorten the bench as the season goes on. I don't think its a the older you are the more time you get system, its the more faith he has in you the more it helps.

I don't think it was losing a year on mop up duty. My understanding was that it was completely Zach's decision to not red-shirt.

If it was Zach's decision to red-shirt then I retract my previous post.

While immediately-eligible transfers aren't in abundance, they do exist and could become more prevalent with the recent revamping of NCAA rules.

It was fairly recent that the NCAA instituted the rule that if a player graduates from their school and still has eligibility left, they can switch schools without penalty if they choose to attend graduate school in a program not available at their current school.

Also, with the new APR rules, there will be more post season bans for schools, which affords some players a non-penalized transfer. This is the case with the UCONN center who is transferring out, that is, unless UCONN wins their appeal to the NCAA.

I'm not saying the Jacks will be able to land one of these transfers, but there will be some of these player available.
