That is a ridiculous series of sentences.

Getting the vibe from Nagy if Illinois called (which they won't) he'd take it. If another school in Illinois called and offered (he'd consider it). Anywhere else unless its high major, he'd answer the phone but that is about it.

He makes $150K now, I'm thinking if SDSU could get that above $200K it'd be good.

I'm more concerned about assistants leaving.
I agree, if SDSU coaches were so against multiple year contracts, they would have and could easily move on. Obviously they are still here and most likely they are here because they want too. AJ almost left but decided he wanted to stay. Also Nagy all the talk he endured about getting fired, he is still here. Maybe others dont consider it but coaching at a school with a good recruiting footprint and great school and alumni support means something, they could probably go to some mid major for twice as much money but maybe tougher area to recruit, or 300 fans in the stands....who knows. They must like it here enough they havent left and I doubt any coach is on the hot seats.

          Re: Future of Nagy

He had 6 wins just a few years ago and won the conference tournament...has yet to win a regular season title. I'm all behind Nagy, but I don't think this one season is putting him on anyone's short list.

I agree with those who say he has more reason's to stay than leave. Money isn't everything...just ask AJ.

SDSU didn't fire Nagy when they won 6 games, had numerous players quit, and had 2 players get arrested. So to me, they are yearly renewable contracts, not 1 year contracts. I think the 1 year contract argument is made a bigger deal then it is.

I guess an easier way to say it is, I think it is a much larger issue to someone looking at coming into the program than those currently in the program. Its going to take quite a bit to get fired at SDSU

              Re: Future of Nagy

If Coach Nagy leaves, he leaves the program in better shape then what he had at the beginning of the transition period. I would hope he hangs with us for a few more years. He is such a modest guy, and not used to microphones being shoved in his face, but he is starting to come around. This might keep the super powers of basketball away for a while. The super powers seem to like the mouth piece in coaches. I would tend to think more AD's have gotten know who he is and his knowledge of the game, but as Catchem ALL has said one season does not put him on any short list. Next year might be different.

                Re: Future of Nagy

Nagy got a nice boost in salary this season to $150k and I'd assume he'll probably get a bit of boost after SDSU's success this season. Another good team and higher home attendance next year and increasing revenues it's probably safe to say he'll get a boost again.

He'll never make 7 figures by staying at SDSU, but there's no reason that if he runs a continuously successful program that packs Frost arena and makes a few tourney appearances he can't get up to $300-$500K a season here. I think another great season next year and a tourney appearance that SDSU Jackrabbit merchandise could be a great sell to outsiders. We've got an excellent logo that is really marketable, and if I'm not mistaken the majority of that licensing revenue goes right to the athletic department.

                    Re: Future of Nagy

Just to expand on previous post. SDSU home attendance increased by about 30% this year from 37,539 (2,503) to 46,484 (3,320/game).

I think it's safe to say that coming off the NCAA's and returning most of the roster that SDSU could see a similar increase next year, let's say 20% to 4,000 game. If you figure 15 home games that would be 60,000 fans or about 22,500 more than we had last year or 13,500 more than this year. Just using $10 per seat you'd be talking $225K per year in increased revenue for the program in just two seasons.

The Nagy family just moved into a new house in Brookings. You usually don't do that if you're planning to leave in a year or two.

Ordinarily, this would be a good sign of wanting to stay, but an 200k increase offer could change that in a hurry. I dont see that Tim Miles ambition in Nagy, which is not to say anything about coaching ability. Both have it but Tim seemed to be more of an "out going" guy and definitely was using NDSU as a stepping stone as he did use Mayville and SWMSU. It seems to be Nagy's nature to look for stability for himself and his family, and does he really like all those microphones shoved in his face? I dont think he does. I think this is a good sign.

with the state of the economy in Illinois right now why would anyone want to go there. Illinois the state is broke, high taxes and a corrupt state government. people would leave if they could afford to. besides, I think that he has made a commitment to the team and the men he has recruited just like they have made a commitment to the team and him. and why all this speculation nothing has been said by any party so let it drop

                            a. Its a little different when you are from there. I'm sure people can come up with reasons on why not to come to South Dakota, or any state for that matter

                            b. I don't think the economy, and corruption really bothers a coach making 800K at Southern Illinois, or a few million at Illinois.

He and his wife are both from Illinois, I'm sure they have quite a bit of family in Illinois, all of that adds up

I don't know that this is worth worrying about until it becomes something to worry about. I'd rather just enjoy what was a good season put together by a good coach and team.

Weber from Illinois will be taking over at So. Illinois and Illinois will be going hard after Shaka Smart from VCU.
